Kills gas dont know why?

My Buick Park avenue shakes at high speeds.
Sometimes it feels like i have to floor the gas peddal for the car to start gaining speed. It feels like something is stuck and not letting my car to gain speed especially past 60mph.Sometimes the car dies on stop signs or traffic lights.

Strength:

Big, according to European standards. Extremely smooth ride (most Europeans get seasick in cars like these however), very good mileage because of the six cilinders (gas overhere is almost three times more expensive than in the US). Attracts the interest of other people while driving.

Weakness:

Hard to find a parkinglot, but on the other hand, that is one of the nice things driving those huge cars in Europe. You are lucky if if you cannot find a parking space, because than you will not have to leave your car and can go on enjoying the ride. Did not exeperience any real weaknesses yet.

Buying and driving American cars in The Netherlands is not that easy, as long as you don't want to drive a more common Chrysler. First of all, it is very exepensive because of all the extra taxes (of the above mentioned price about 40% are taxes US citizens do not have to worry about). Furthermore there is the problem of the lack of dealer support. You may call yourself very lucky if you can find a garage where they can give you that support. This Park Avenue was imported from the States a month ago. It had run 70.000 miles. I liked the car at first instance, because it looks a lot like the Chevrolet Caprice Classic 1991 I owned before.

205 HP, Speeds for a V6 Granny Car, Very Sapcious and comfortable

Weakness:

None that we know of yet!

Just the regular Park Ave. is a pretty fast car but not very comparable to the 240 HP supercharged Ultra, the standard Park Ave come with a 3800 V6 205 HP, speeds are comparable with ultra but not anything to the acceleration. The Park Ave in very nicely equipped with features (optional or standard) like leather interior, (HUD) Heads Up Display, for 2004 models Rear parking Assist., and if you have the Concert Sound III you have a very powerful stock system, also comes with perimeter/cornering lights, and we seem to be very happy with our Park Ave.

look, ride, acceleration, sound system, seats and electronic amenities.

Weakness:

Doors don't always easily close, particularly a problem when you are seven years old and attempting to exit the car during elementary school drop off. So far minor problems such as the radio lights, weather stripping.

Car looks great, fast, smooth somewhat floaty ride but corners really nice. It is wicked comfortable! I really never get tired of driving it. I have had some problems such as a chrome wheel that needed to be replaced after my wife drove over a huge pot hole-$550 to replace- wholesale price. Two of the lights on the radio went dead and the dealer replaced the radio as a result-covered under the warrantee. You'd think that the bulbs could be changed? I needed front breaks at 30k and there is a very slight vibration even after they were replaced but this is not a big deal. This car is big, substantial but with the 17" wheels and an updated grill and portholes it looks more like an aggressive sleeper than the an old man's Florida car. I have three young children all in some type of car seat and they all fit in it fine. I had also considered the Chrysler 300M and a used Deville but the Ultra really had more stuff in it than the base Deville and a Buick seems a bit more socially acceptable for where I live although I have really broken the rules by spending this much $ on something other than a Saab or Volvo. With 0% for five years this brought the 39k price tag way down when compared to other cars with less attractive financing . I will probably purchase an extended warrantee and I have already had a trans service (filter change etc.) in hopes that with some preventative maintenance I will head off future problems. So far the dealer has been attentive-a very classic GM dealership (i.e., lots of dealership dudes in polyester slacks guzzling bad coffee with creamora! )

Strength:

The engine. The luxury and all the features. The handling and the safety. The speed of this vechical is amazing, just wait 3,000 miles to floor it. Its nice sporty look.

Weakness:

Paint on the 95 Ultra. Doesn't get enough credit, and is talked badly about by teens who are into Hondas. THERE IS ABSOULOTLY NOTHING TO COMPARE. A SUPERCHARED Honda wont even beat this supercharged masterpiece so get OVER YOURSELF.

I have owned 4 of these Ultras in my "driving" lifetime. I got my licens in 95 and I had the 95 Ultra. It was amazing, beats the heck out of any honda, or any of them crappy little 4 cylinder crappy things. I currently own the 99 ultra and I love it. I Have driven the 2003 (my friend bought it) and I love it too. I was going to buy one, but the only thing different is the looks so I am going to wait a while. I have had NO problems with this vechical. I do have to say though, it seems a lot of people have had bad versions of this car. So make sure you get ALL the information about this car before you buy. ALWAYS ask for a car that was not made on a Monday or Friday, it may seem stupid TRUST ME ITS NOT! If you buy brand new DO NOT under ANY circumstance get out on the road and stomp the accelerator pedal down to the floor. Let the engine break in first. Thats what A LOT of peoples problems are the engine gets damaged that way, I now am I mechanic (not for any particular dealer) but that does make a difference. Take it from me wait up till 3,000 miles before you start treating this car for whats its built for. I do say its a sporty luxury car, grandmas can get the non- ultra. This ultra is a sports car. A POWERFUL sports car with no CRAP engine like Honda. It has been rated higher of Lincoln and caddie though. So don't get them , besides this car has more safety and better handling and its ALOT quicker. it also has good gas milege. I have the Stabili trac system and head up display, and traction control, and gran touring package withthe anti roll rear bar. I've taken this masterpiece out on some pretty high speed races. The car can go up to 140 MPH without harming the enging, thats a fact its NOTHING on that engine. I've done it myself ON A THURWAY THOUGH! I have taken her around TIGHT sharp courses at 90 MPH and it doesnt even feel like I'm losing control or going to flip. This engine picks up extremely FAST , I mean EXTREMELY. Its effortless, you push that pedal down and you hear the sound of that wonderful supercharged engine roar, its amazing. You can even hear the supercharging doing its job, to me it sounds cool. The engine is not loud and "whiny" like Hondas and small cylinder/ litre engines are at full throttle. It sounds like its saying "THIS IS ALL YOUR GIVING ME?" It picks up very smooth, makes corners very smooth to. Don't dis this car if you like Honda thats fine, but its a fact this car has FAR more power, its safer and better quality fit for any age. The stereo system is amazing sounding.. the leather seats are amazing. BEWARE of the paint on the 95 it seemed pretty cheap to me, the 95's engine you could hear a little better though. Also you could feel the speed a bit more, it still picked up the same, 0-60 in 6.5 seconds.. but the newer ones make a smoother quieter ride. TRUST me its a thrill. But the 95 is a bit louder, still effortlessly!!! But just a little louder. I prefer the newer ones. My friend who owns the 2003 LOVES the rear- park assist, i wish I had it too. The car I only like in Black, all other colors are ugly to me... as far as wanting it to be sporty . Older people dont get black.. doesnt suit you. Basically, you respect this car it will respect you back. You take car of this car, and it will take car of your needs. Keep up with its maintance, keep the interior clean, use leather protectants to keep it nice for a LONG time. Wash it a lot in winter ( I dont drive mine in winter because I dont want the under neath hurt) but I have though. Bathe it a lot in winter, and always wash the under neath behind wheels and all.. keep it clean. This is a wonderful luxury sports sedan, fast, quiet, VERY ROOMY. And most of all reliable. BUT the water pump is a issue. It will have to be replaced at some point, I am warning you that is a fault that everyone seams to have with this car.

QUALITY.

MAJOR WATER LEAK (I'M TALKING PUDDLE ON THE FLOOR HERE)INTO THE CABIN ON THIS $41,600(LIST)CAR. DEALER'S SERVICE DEPT. HAS HAD TO DISMANTLE THE ENTIRE INTERIOR OF THE CAR(DASH, SEATS, CONSOLE, CARPETS) DOWN TO THE BARE METAL TO GET TO IT. TURNED OUT TO BE DEFECTIVE SEAL (ROBOTIC MISALIGNMENT) AT THE FIREWALL/DASH JOINT. I TOOK DELIVERY OF THIS CAR ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND IT'S BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 16 DAYS SO FAR. ALSO, THE DRIVER'S SEAT OF THIS CAR HAD A DISTINCTIVE AND, MORE THAN JUST ANNOYING, "CREAK". DEALER ORDERED NEW SEAT PARTS BUT NOT SURE YET IF THIS WILL BE CORRECTED UNTIL THE INTERIOR IS "RE-ASSEMBLED" VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS PURCHASE. ENTIRE NEW CAR EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN RUINED.

Dealers .

Up date to the "It needs an engine" Dealer write up. NO it did NOT need an engine. An independent (HONEST) sevice center replaced a FACTORY DEFECTIVE CAMSHAFT . The cam had a defective lobe that had been defective since day one. It took 30K miles for the problem lobe to destroy the lifter causing the noise. Excellent repair at a good price , $800 instead of the $4000 + dealer cost. The only things WORSE than the car in this story was the DEALER and the COMPANY that failed to stand behind a FACTORY defect. They screw uo YOU pay THEY PROFIT ! Not bad when you can profit from your screw ups !

Good mileage for full size car. Great power & Ok comfort. Few maintenance troubles.

Weakness:

Overpriced, Depreciates to quickly so buy used. Too much wind noise. Engine noise is tolerable.

Maybe its not fair to compare my old 88 with a 96 Park but my wife reminds me the 88 Grand Marquee had a more comfortable ride. We like the Park Ave because it does get better mileage, has much better maintenance record but it is totally overpriced and should be a much quieter car. I bought it used and six years later with 100k I appreciate 20 city and 30 highway. I guess the blame for not having a better ride is on the front wheel drive. Still have original exhaust, needs shocks but no major troubles. It has used oil since around 30 k and up to almost a quart between oil changes, I change oil every 3k. Not sure if I would buy another one because according to Consumer Reports they went down hill after 1996, plus too expensive.
