Strength:

300HP-- Keeps up with everything on the road Quiet--Unless under wot Ride--very very smooth, just as good as a benz Look/style--Classic desine, classy and sassy in the same package. Comfort-- Heated seats and windsheld are very nice. Also autodimming merrors are nice.

Weakness:

Not the most reliable car ever built. HOWEVER, these cars are far easier to repair then my previous honda prelude 4ws. The eldo is desined very nicely, and it can (if you have the tools) be repaired by its owner fairly easily. Granted parts are not cheep, but they arn't cheep for any good cars... Mantance, such as the 7.5L's of oil the northstar takes can get expensive quick along with gas mileage (ave of 21mpg) on 93 octange gas. Most people think they are old people cars.

I wanted to wait a while before I wrote a review on my 94 eldo etc, so I could get a full taste of what the car was really like. Like any car it has both postive and negitive aspects. Overall, I would say its a good car and I enjoy my etc very much, however it is costly, yet, worth it.

Awesome steering - Steering wheel just glides. Diamond white shines like a diamond - comments never stop. Keep your paint shinin with a couple coats of wax. Weakness:

Stock 16" wheels are only to be used for the winter months - cant stand stock wheels in the summer. Get a lot more looks/traction/performance/control/grip with the new 20" MKW-12's on the Sumitomo HTRZ II tires. Handling is much better. People who gave poor reviews for any 98+ cadillac are not taking proper care for their car. Learn how to maintain and cherrish your cadillac.

Sick ride - bought this car in mid winter handled awesome in the snow. Felt much more in control then other vehicles I've owned. With the stabilitrac option combined with ABS I never found myself in a situation the car could'nt handle. Including stoppin on glare ice. Stability made it hard to lose control. E-brake handles awesome around corners - easy foot pedal that releases itself makes for fun driving on snow.

Power, Looks

Weakness:

Same that others have listed: interior peeling away from backing, Bose Stereo repairs, moldings and interior trim warping and peeling, Front Bumper chrome peeling, Limp Home feature does not work (overheated twice) Must have z rated tires.

I have had this car for just over three months. Since that time I have had to replace the Radiator, repair the Bose sound system, and am now forced to replace the transmission. I am a bit frustrated as I will have invested 10k in a car that has 130K miles on it. Its a beautiful car, it is too bad that I have had so many issues. I really wanted to love this car, but have had too many bad dependability issues.

Strength:

many strengths include of course the power of the northstar, good looks, nice sound system, big and mighty looking, good fuel economy and just plain CADILLAC.

Weakness:

yea, all companies have weaknesses, this includes poor workmanship of the interior such as the side molding, starting to pull away, the engines gaskets, and the bose system , works real nice , but then goes to crap in a while

cadillac eldorado, what can i say, i finally got one with the 300hp Northstar. i wasn't yet sure to buy it with the 170000+ miles on the speedo. but with the stock chrome rims, the black paint with all the chrome trim, i couldn't resist. i am 18, and my first car was a 85 eldorado, then the weakly 4.1 started knocking. then i found the most nicest car a customer bought over to the garage, a 89 coup deville, to my luck he was selling it, i bought it for 2000. the work since on it has been minimal, fixed the plastic air line for the rear shocks, thats been it for a while, but now first gear slips a little and i engine hesistates. now i have this 94, only for 2000, i knew it wouldn't be great,, past weeks i replaced the right front wheel bearing, the wires for the radio were bare and touching the metal inside the dash, the power seats, electric door locks and the trunk/fuel release buttons dont work, i replaced the drivers window motor, i put a tranny cooler in for now because the tranny fluid was leaking into the cooling system, the strut mounts are way bad, and the oil pan gasket is leaking pretty good, other then these, i still love the car. real fast and ace looking, the interior is the nicest i ever seen.

Strength:

Excellent power, timeless styling, deep, lustrous paintwork, adequate sound system, good value when purchased used.

Weakness:

Torque steer, interior headliner panels near rear window pulling away, not the best handling, but certaily adequate.

This polo green Eldo is a truly classic design, one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen, especially it's rear end. The Northstar engine (275 hp) has more than enough power and still gets excellent gas mileage. Owning a Cadillac is totally uncharacteristic for me, but this car has an effect (positive) on nearly everyone who sees it. I've read all the horror stories about service problems, but I've only had a water pump belt go. It uses oil, but this is characteristic of the Northstar engine. Even if I have to sink a couple grand into it over the next year or so, it is still worth it. These cars can be had at a very reasonable price right now and ought to hold up relatively well. Just an opinion, but if you are taking yours to a Cadillac dealer for service you are a masochist. I have already discussed prices on the most common repairs for this vehicle with my independent mechanic and it looks like this car can be a keeper..as long as I don't have to go to a dealer for anything other than parts. The state of dealer service in this country is deplorable.

Strength:

Beautiful body & interior, very comfortable, nice power & handling.

Weakness:

Can't convert AC to R134a refrigerant, wind noise, small gas tank, no cup holders.

BEWARE of converting your pre-R134a Cadillac air conditioning R-12 systems to the newer refrigerant! AC systems on 9'0s era models (including my ‘92 Eldorado) cannot be successfully converted, due to 2 sensors designed to properly function only with R-12 in the system. Doing a retrofit to R-134 on these cars will greatly boost system pressure & temperature, resulting in the inevitable blowing of seals on the compressor, leaking freon and eventually requiring a compressor replacement. Ask me how I know: this just happened to me, after having bought my Eldo a year ago in part because the previous owner had converted it from R-12 to R134a refrigerant. Little did I know that it would cost me $950 12 months down the road. I now have to replace the compressor and assorted system parts to return the system to R-12, the only way to insure a functioning & reliable system. Of course, I could spend "just" $500+ for a new compressor & dryer, keep the R134a and have cold air for awhile. But the best estimate by a good AC man is "about a year" before the seals blow and I'd be back at the shop needing a new compressor. It seems that, all GM cars (of course), Cadillacs have the only system that can't be converted to R134, again because of those 2 sensors which read internal pressure & temperature of the AC system. There are no sensors for these pre-134a cars that will function properly with R-134. So, beware of converting your pre-134a Cadillac to the newer refrigerant, or buying one that has been converted. You'll pay for it

Strength:

Gorgeous styling...Harley Earl would be proud! The factory Bose system sounds clean and beautiful. Handling and suspension feel are quite good. The Northstar V8 aint weak boys and girls! When I smoke some wannabe 'Fast and Furious' type in a rodded Honda I'm sure that their subconscious is saying, "*%#*, I could have had a V8!". For the mechanically inclined, such as myself, the water pump is not hard to change. Lastly, when the car isn't troubling me with codes and/or failures it's a real pleasure to drive!

Weakness:

For a car of its age and mileage it's unreliable. From 91,000 to it's current 103,000 miles I've had to change the alternator , water pump, spark plugs & wires, a/c clutch & pulley assembly, starter, battery, positive battery cables (much more difficult than one might think). These I carefully did myself after getting outrageous repair quotes from the dealership and any shop willing to work on a Northstar type Cadillac. Envision, if you will, the many times I've had to take my ORIGINAL and unrestored 1951 Cadillac to the parts store to get parts to fix my '94 Eldo so that it will be driveable! "Cadillac, what have you become?" Be aware, this car loves to display trouble codes and isn't for the faint of heart or shallow of pocketbook.

I'm in love with the 90's Cadillac body styles. There isn't anything quite like a V8 powered Cadillac of most vintages! I was overjoyed with this 1994 ElDorado, at first. I've discovered, first hand, and from the testimonies of others that the Northstar Cadillacs leave much to be desired in terms of reliability and service/parts costs. Barring any significant failures I plan on keeping this car for about two more years before selling it. I had a 1963 Coupe DeVille before buying this car. I sold the '63 because it would have needed about $8000.oo in parts and work to be something I could rely on for long drives. The failures common to the post '92 Cadillacs can run close to that amount or higher. All things considered, I still have love for and pride in owning my '94 ElDorado.

I HAD CAR PAINTED DUE TO DEAD PAINT AND IT LOOKS LIKE A NEW ONE! WHAT A VALUE! IT GOOBLES GAS BUT LOOKS LIKE A $35K CAR.I HAVE REALLY ENJOYED THE CAR AND TRUST THE 4.9 MOTOR OVER THE NORTHSTAR DUE TO COST TO REPAIR. NORTHSTAR MOTORS ARE VERY DIFFICULT AND EXPENSIVE TO GET SERVICED. $9000 FOR A REBUILD? WOW! THAT IS WHAT MY CADDY DEALER SAID. I FOUND I CAN BUY THE WHOLE 4.9 MOTOR WITH GOOD MILES FOR $2000 OR LESS.***SO, IF YOU WANT TO LOOK THE "PART" WITHOUT PAYING OR HAVING TO PAY LATER BUY A 92 ELDORADO (THE LAST YEAR OF THE 4.9 MOTOR) AND CHANGE THE WHEELS YOUR FRIENDS WILL NEVER KNOW THE MODEL!

Strength:

Good looking automobile. Strong performance. Very comfortable.

Weakness:

Defective materials incorporated into a bad design. See above.

The 1996 El Dorado is an amazing vehicle. It rides nice, has plenty of power, is comfortable and apart from the constant wind noise is be perfect to drive. But, maintenance costs take the pleasure out of the ownership of this car. While I have experienced several of the electrical “glitches” mentioned elsewhere (including power seats with minds of their own) my biggest complaint is the “fan motor/evaporator housing that has completely disintegrated. The plastic material that it is constructed of will now crumble between your fingers and needs to be replaced due to the large chunks of it that have fallen away. To add insult to injury, it is going to cost approximately $1500 to replace. The engine has to be lowered from the vehicle to reinstall the new part. Cadillac states that the vehicle, with an average of 8000/year, has too many miles for them to correct the problem and further states that it is not a manufacturing defect.
