Strength:

Style that out classes all other Euro ulititly Boxes, BMW, MBZ, Volvo, Sorry you 740/ 500 guys you never get it.

Weakness:

Winers that can't afford to own one as a alternative car

Blend of luxury and performance with British style, ( this is no Ford) as commonly stated , but in the same breath, thank God for the good management of that great American company to save a sleak Cat from the socialist. As all car companys they are World cars, and is not subsidized anymore in to obsolescents. I don't understand the people that complain about the back seat or leather package tray, as they call it. Didn't they see it before they bought it? As for the power issue, they make the XKR for Mister Macho. This XK8 is for my wife and she loves it! As for me I love the idea that she happy with it, now how many can say that about a car and a woman

Strength:

Beautiful Britishness Everything ever - superb comfort and luxury, presence, looks, masculine and feminine at the same time in coupe guise, more feminine as a drop top. Only the coupe will do for serious buyers. The coupe is a mobile work of art. I have photographed my car from every angle, and there isn't a bad one. Quintessential Jaguarness. And I paid less for it than a deathly dull and boring new Camry or Accord.

Weakness:

Yes it doesn't corner like a FOrd Focus, that's becasue it's a Jaguar. You can feel every one of the 3900 pounds when tyou throw it around, but it does feel good. And it takes off too. Hit the 'S' button, and it spinds up very quickly, and glides through the gears in no time - well six seconds to 60mph, which is OK. How often do you see anyone in California actually go away from a light at speed? Once a month? Not even that? The boot/trunk button is at knee height so hilarious consequences ensue if you've foolishly tapped the button with your knee as you get in, because there's no audible warning. Platic seat control buttons mounted in the usual place are easily trodden on by women in heels getting in and out of your lovely car...Back seat is a posh luggage rack

There's some nonsense written on here, evidently some of the 'reviewers' have never even been in the car, much less driven it. I strongly suspect that if you're 20 years old and can barely spell your own name, you're not buying $80000 cars. Firstly, let's get rid of this 'Ford' nonsense. Why people pick on Jaguar to tag with the Ford brush, I don't know. Ford supply the cash, the British get on with the design and building. Ford have been in the UK and Europe for decades, owning the small car market with Europe only models that Americans don't understand. I work for a comppany in California that is owned by a vastly larger company. Nobody comes along and says 'oh you're just *****'. In fact our company has its own very well known and individual brand identity. I haven't noticed Volvo owners being lambasted for being owned by Ford. I suspect it's the usual sad American desire to get one up on Brits. Please, get over it. We let you have your big fat continent, but you didn't get to have any culture. We'll leave it at that. The XK8 was designed and built in Britain by British people that understand taste class and luxury. A Lincoln it most certainly it is not and never will be. Indeed we only have to look to the new XJ8 to see just what Jaguar engineers can come up with that's far and away superior to the rest of the world. All they needed was the cash. The XK8 was the last great work by Geoff Lawson, who sadly died a couple of years ago. The AJV8 engine was designed and built in the UK. FOrd supplied the cash, Coventry did the work. I really enjoy this car. Initially I was just going to keep it for six months and then look at a BMW or even a new Mini, but I just can't part with it. It is superb, beautiful, exquisite, preternatural, distinctive, radiant.I love the reaction it generates, from absolute joyous participatory admiration from enthusiasts to rancid angry jealousy - fortunately no one has attacked it yet. The best part of driving this car is doing what it was designed for - long cruises. This car eats continents for breakfast. It loves to have its legs stretched. And the environment - leather, walnut, a touch of chrome, subtle lighting. Going back to my other car is like going back to work after a relaxing long weekend in the Cotswolds.

Strength:

Unmatched "curb appeal" combined with solid performance. The interior detail adds the right finish to this Boulevard Cruiser!

Weakness:

A bit cramped for the 6'2" and up crowd with the top up and with the top down the windshield view is a bit obstucted. A few "check engine" sensor issues, although corrected, are still annoying.

Refined luxury best describe the XK8. The car delivers smooth acceleration, great handling and "eye-catching" appeal. It is truly a pleasure to drive. The car is perfect for a mid-life crisis because it doesn't make the 40 something crowd appear to be hanging on to "days gone by"!!

Strength:

Sleek but refined looks. Extremely comfortable ride. Keep looking but have not bumped into any other XK8's on the road.

Weakness:

Key location and trunk latch location are annoying. The keys dangle onto my right leg and if I am not careful, the right knee sometimes taps the trunk latch.

As a first time owner of Jaguar, I am totally impressed. I can understand the adage... once a Jaguar owner, always a Jaguar owner. I particularly like the sport shift feature where one can get a better feel for the power. I have no idea what this monster will do top speed as there are no safe places to play. However, quite easilly reaches 115, yet handles as though at 65. The styling is distinctive and makes people drool.

Very fast, very refined. Not over priced like BMW or Mercedes.

Could use a little more torque.

excellent car. Just great. Style and luxery. finally ford is kicking in! Car just is perfect for the wealthy class and isnt too snoobish. just love it, even though it partially resembels the Ford Taurus, which isnt a bad thing, but its styling cues are just great. Jaguar is the only European (well Ford now!)car company that deserves your hard earned cash. Go JAG!

Strength:

The most beautiful car ever designed of all price category. Reeking of British class and cool.

Weakness:

Rear end and the speedometer designs need more excitement (that is more of that classic Jaguar feeling and less Ford like). Jaguars are still full of gremlins that the dealer/manufacturer cannot quite eliminate.

A vehicle reeking of cool Britannia. Ultimate anglophile''s revenge on the fellow teutonic driving "machines". Considering the near super-exotic car feel of the XK8, it''s a bargain for mere $70K. Half the price of Aston Martin or entry-level Ferrari but near equal "wow" factor. In fact, the XK8 will draw more attention and outperform the Aston Martin DB7, which shares a lot of Jaguar styling and parts for double the price!

Everything else

This car is a joke. I''ve owned several Mercedes Porsche and other mid and high end vehicles. I''m not looking for someone in a white smock named Hans to walk out and greet me but the over all experience has been my worst. The car looks good but doesn''t deliver in any other area.... switches have stopped and started working dash warning lights go on and off or I pull over and turn the car off to reset the system. The convertible top cover flew off and put a big ding in the trunk lid, while I was cruising down the highway. Service has been I can''t believe how bad. Greasy hands on the wheels, oil left a quart low after a change, Antifreeze overfilled and left driping around the filler cap. They damaged my wheel rotating the tires they weren''t suppose to rotate. They put the bigger rear tires on the front and the smaller front tires on the back. (18"wheel option has smaller front wheels) Front tires are wearing unevenly on the inside at 8,000 miles and I''m feeling vibration in the steering wheel. Wish I never bought it. If you are considering a purchase. Reconsider.

Strength:

Haven''t been killed in it yet.

Weakness:

Everything. REPEATEDLY!

What a piece of crap! Bought the jag new. Right off the showroom floor. Nothing but problems. It knows how to get to the service dept. by itself now! All things electrical (top, windows, console, steering wheel, seats, seat heaters, seat controls, both interior and exterior lights, trunk)have failed and continue to fail over and over again. Replaced water pump, thermostat, braking system, yadayadayada. Bought for my wife as a gift. Paid cash. The car has been garage kept and babied. Still only has 18,000 miles. Jaguar dealer and manufacturer indifferent and smug. Folks. Don''t do it. Don''t believe the hype. Jaguar is STILL the best looking car you''ll ever see behind a tow truck! Buy a Yugo instead. More reliable. Trust me.

Strength:

great looks and handling

Weakness:

everything from the electronics that dont work as promissed ( the window drop down feature, the steering wheen return, seats, emergency flashers, radio, console lights that fail). I will go back to MB or GM

All that you have heard about Jaguar''s and there legendary failures is true. What allows then to stay in business must be the looks of the car''s. My 97 XK8 was heralded to be the best car Jaguar had ever produced, a new motor, newly designed everything. A new jaguar!! Here''s the real story: For the first 2 months of ownership my neighbors thought I bought a lincoln, that is what you are given when you car is in the shop. My car had 3 radios (and still has motor noise and poping in the radio), new front seats (the leather covers are still comming off the car), the console lights are out again (they replaced the console 3 times), the exaust system had to be replaced, the steering wheel had to be replaced because the controls werent functioning, and now the MOTOR must be replaced. All this on a car that was serviced by the dealer BEFORE the recomendid mileage / time described in the manual. By now you must be thinking that the car was mishandled or has lots of miles. My car is garage kept, never been hit, and has 55,000 miles. One day I went to start it and the motor started to make very loud noises, and conked out now I need a new motor, what a great car. 5000 miles out of warranty and I am stuck with a bill amounting to $8500.00. When I contacted the zone manager for Jaguar she never spoke to me other than to return a call and say they wont assist me with the 8500.00 bill. no discussion at all, just "your car is past the warranty and that is your responsiblilty"

having to get out of it. brakes could be a bit firmer.

Awesome. Such luxury with satisfactory power and road holding. I'm a 54 years of age fat bald and have occassionally been embarrassed by the looks of women who have even approached me whilst i've been gassing it up in a station [which is not to say that i haven't enjoyed this]. everyone i meet asks about the car.

roadholding is superb. in the winter it handles snow better than a range rrover.

in france at 100 mph i managed 28 mpg and usually get 21 around town.

reliable. afew electrical problems but sorted at no cost by main dealer.

buy one.

i need additional seats and have just part exchanged it for a new s type jaguar sport. i've had five mercs, a terrible bmw, range rovers and gods knows what else but this is the car i wish i could keep forever. i'm finally a jaguar convert after years of german cars that are prone to breakdowns and don't have the build quality of a jag.
