Power, speed, elegence, quietness, smoothness. Like a dream

Weakness:

Too good for the price.

Excellent car, exceptional quality and friendly dealer servivce. Makes MB and BMW owners jealous all the time. Dissing GS does not make MB/BMW better. When GS pulls ahead, it floats away from the rest. Nak system takes driver all the way near heaven. L-tuned suspension makes GS4 way ahead of the E430/BMW540.

Strength:

It has one of the best suspensions out of Porsche, Mercedes, and BMW, Optional Mark Levinson Sterio is a must for the GS430, along with a zippy engine, navigation system, and sinfully comfortable ammenities, this is a truly awesome vehicle, i would reccomend to anyone.

Weakness:

Well, there isn't much that can go wrong with this Wonderful car, but my first Lexus was somehow overlooked at the transmission fluid department, the car was fried by a mile off the lot, so make sure that you do have all necessary fluids before purchasing... The only other thing i found was little room to put my cell phone's hands free kit, other than that, it is a well spoken car.

The 2001 Lexus is a great car, althought i have only had it for two weeks, it still amazes me, i feel safe while driving it, the suspension is highly responsive, sturdy, and smootle, while it waits too long to upshift sometimes, it has no problem getting to about seventy miles per hour is about six seconds. The exterior has a wealth of beauty as it glides through the air, smoothly, yet quick. The 16" wheels provide a very smoothe ride, very fluid like, but being a teenager, i had to get the $3200 Summer tires, they are awe inspiring! My silver GS 430 has brought many eyes to my path, which is percisely what the agressive styling should do. The stereo undoubtably the best out on the market for a factory installed option. 240-watts, and a 10" subwoofter makes the mirrors jump with any volume. The Navigation system is a must for any lexus, or high end car, but they are seemingly still having some trouble with Global Positioning Systems, for some reason i am driving about a quarter of an inch off of the roadways, but only on my street, 60 miles from the nearest civilized area. Overall this is an awesome car, i would reccomend it to anyone who can afford it, even if you can't, LEASE! lexus has a great value, and a great car to offer anyone...

I also thought about the BMW 740i, test drove it and was particularly disappointed with the 'luxury' aspect, The Mercedes S430 is also a nice car, but something seemed off, they are a bit too proud of their vehicles, although very luxurious, but something didn't click with my personality and a slower v-8 engine....

Strength:

Nice engine.

Weakness:

Rough ride. The steering wheel mounted E-Shift buttons are jokes, useless. The power is overrated. Tire noise.

I bought this car because it was cheaper. What a mistake. I wish I had paid more money and purchased BMW instead. The power is rated at 300bhp but the actual drivability is not as good as my friend's BMW's 284bhp. Its power must be overrated. The manual shift selectors are good ideas but badly executed. The shifting is too slow and the positions are not optimal. The VSC is way too sensitive. I have numerous problems with my car: front wheel shimmy, door locks sometimes refuse to lock, rattles... The dealer's service is quite nice but they still haven't fixed the problems after several visits. Lexus are NOT driver's car they wanted you to think. This is my first and absolutely my last.

Strength:

Rockett like lift off; buttery smooth engine; silky smooth transmission; aggressive but gorgeous looks; extremely luxurious and refined; quiet at high speeds but superb engine sound at "lift off"; "best in the world" nakamichi audio system (believe me on this!); extra ordinary reliability, fit and finish and dealer service; superb cornering; great fuel milege for the V8; and take this: more stable on ice then ANY SUV with 16" Blizzak snow tires (great control in snow with "snow" mode of transmission and VSC). Great CD changer in glove compartment. Good size trunk. Superb front seats with adequate back seat for a true sports car. Excellent manual shifter in the steering wheel (I can talk on cellular while passing a 540i sport in a 3rd gear!!!

Weakness:

Extremely few. Although breaking distance is world class, car ploughs to one side on hard breaking. Had steering vibrations which disappeared after "re-call" adjustment and after dealer changed the Bridgestone to Michelin XXX. Steering relatively light at very high speeds.

Best sports sedan in the world to-date, particularly if one cares for freedom of using other hand for cell phone or drinking coffee. Great ownership experience, superb chasis with phenomenal acceleration "Thurst" and breaking. On the otherhand, great ride and unbelievable Nakamichi sound system. I am getting my M5 at end of April, 2001. I am seriously considering getting the GS "L-tuned" and purchase it. All figures will be comparable to M5 (except for 0-60 will be slightly slower) and cost will be exactly half of that of Bimmer!?

I just bought a "Blaze Yellow" Subaru WRX (March 2001). Excellent car with lot of fun with manual transmission but as soon as I put my 17" wheels with summer tires on GS I realized how an otherwise extremely civilized, ultra-luxury BAD BOY can go head to head with a car with world rally underpinnings and outcorner it too! I had also considered BMW 540i but lease payment was TWICE as much and it looked just like any other BMW! How boring!

Strength:

Powerful, well appointed beautiful appearing car. a real eye pleaser from the inside out. The Navigatition system is a real treat for someone who travels a lot to various new customer locations.

Weakness:

This car is almost is terrible on ice and snow. the traction control system is capable of rendering the car almost motionless and you must switch it off just to go. The 17" low profile tires are too agressive on the road surface and have a tendancy to follow every seem in the road. It takes a special effort at times just to keep the car straight. It tires are underinflated, borderline dangerous. Trunk space a little stingy, breaks have a tendancy to pull to the side at stop. front end noise is more than it should be. CD changer is dificult to load without a single disc option.

I have mixed feelings about this car. I have owned several performance cars and this one is right up there. I have been excited about the quality and the overall look and handeling. On the other hand, the weaknesses detailed above are real and I am surprised to have these with such a quality automobile.

Strength:

The look is very slick. My exterior is 'blue onyx pearl' and I love it. Get lots of positive feedback from it as well.

Stereo system sounds great.

Spacious interior is exceedingly adequate for my size.

Very quiet. The car would be totally silent if it wasn't for my music.

Driving is very smooth and the steering is great.

Weakness:

Not the best car for the snow (although that's expected).

I'd rather have the CD changer in the same place where it's located in the LS 430, though that's hardly a big deal.

Friends constantly hounding me for rides.

I love this car. I'd recommended to everyone and anyone.

The BMW 5 series was the only other type of 'luxury' car I looked at. I found the BMW way too small (I'm 6 feet and had a hell of a time getting in). The Lexus has just enough room in the driver's seat.

Strength:

Styling; value (comparable but inferior German cars much more expensive and maintenance intensive); performance (wickedly quick); build quality; interior layout; rock-solid reliability (my 6th Lexus).

Weakness:

Too much tire noise from front end, especially at end of braking action.

In my opinion Lexus makes the best cars for the money on the planet. They simply do not break. This car is uniquely but not overly styled, and has maybe the best V8 engine I've ever sat behind. The automoatic transmission shifts imperceptibly, and the body and chassis are as solid as a bank vault. The engine is whisper quiet except under acceleration, when it makes a pleasing muted snarl. I plan to drive this car a long, long time, Lord willing.

Did not consider any other make of car, given my previous experience with Lexus.

Strength:

Strong Engine, Comfy Seats

Weakness:

AWFUL reliability, the thing has been back to the dealer 12 times! Pieces break off for no reason, the interior plastics are some of the worst I've EVER seen. Transmission over-revs and waits an eternity to upshift. Gas mileage is horrible too

I would definately NOT recommend this car, due to its horrendous reliablilty and make-shift quality
