Strength:

Very reliable, quiet, fairly good mileage. You can expect no repair in the first 100K miles.

Weakness:

None

I have 140K miles on this car, and the car feels rock solid. I don''''t have any trouble with this car except the power steering fluid leaked at 100K miles and the fluid blew the alternator which located below the power steering fluid tank. All Lexus 90-94 has this problem. I am now thinking buying a used Lexus 95-97 model, it looks better than the 2001 model. About maintenace--it is necessary to have it repaired in Lexus dealer. Most automobile service doesn''''t do good job, except changing oil, tire rotation, etc... From model 95 or later, the reliability is better than the 90-94.

Strength:

This car is the best. It is like a flying feather.

Weakness:

The telescopic steering makes a awful noise when it folds away. This has been fixed twice and has come back for the third time. Another point worth looking at is the auto foldaway mirrors could have a short delay so you can check if it is safe to open the door when you have parked.

They don´t get better than this.

Weakness:

Parts are pricey

I purchased my 91 LS400 from a owner who had purchased a new Ford SUV and I can say I love my LS400. The power this car has is quite impressive. My only down fall is the air ride suspension. After a few weeks of having it, I took it to a tire shop to have the tires rotated and balanced because it was part of the warranty on the tires and I did not know this, but the 91 you have to flip a switch in the trunk on the left panel when the care is lifted ot towed, did you 91 owners know that? Anyway, the shop I took it too had to pay $2,300 dollars to get my shocks fixed based on them not turning that switch to the off position. Also, if anyone here has the air ride suspension does your car ever release air from the shocks? The car is driving fine with no problems, but that air release sound concerns me. It sounds like air brakes on a bus or truck, but no where near as loud. Let me know.

Strength:

good review and people believes it

Weakness:

all the above

I wonder why this car is praised by many people and magazines. I think those mags must be very biased to this car. The ride could not beat the "magic carpet ride" of the s430. The interior is not big enough, seats are too flat, cushion not thick enough, leather quality so so. Could not soak bumps like the s class. Very disappointed

The Lexus LS430 offers the finest ownership experience available. The thrill of driving is back! A superior audio system, first rate interior packages, makes this car is a great escape from the cold sometimes cruel world.

Strength:

Very quiet, quick, reliable, good gas mileage, quietest and smoothest 110MPH this side of a Bentley Turbo R. If you are looking for a reliable, fast and comfortable luxury sedan - look no further.

Weakness:

Transmission "thinks" a little too long some times, seats could be more supportive or could''ve had adjustable side bolsters, small trunk, no split-fold rear seats, AVOID AIR SUSPENSION.

Okay, this one is coming from a certified car nut. Needless to say, this car comes highly recommended. I have driven all iterations of the LS except the original (pre-1993), I can honestly say that these cars had steadily improved year after year. I had given serious consideration to the 3rd egenration LS (1995-1997) but found those to be a little underpowered (260HP) and, therefore, not as quick as I like. Also, while far from being noisy, I thought that those cars were quite a bit noisier than the 4th generation (1998-2000) models. The 1998-2000 have the VVTi 290HP engine which is sufficiently quick (6.3sec 0-60MPH). Gas mileage is indeed very good for a car of this size. Even though I do have a lead foot, I generally get 19-20 MPG city. The standard stereo system is indeed very good although the radio reception isn''t up to Lexus standards. The reception in SC300 is a lot better. As opposed to earlier versions, this one doesn''t doesn''t roll nearly as much in corners and overall traction and stability are excellent both dry and wet. There is, however, some nose dive when braking hard. Xenon (optional) lights are great. This car is a perfect highway cruiser. Brakes are greatly improved over the earlier LSs. Stopping distance of 168ft from 70MPH is very good for a such a big and heavy car. Brake pedal is a bit too soft though. Air Suspension was an option on 1998-2000 cars and should be avoided due to its complexity and very high repair costs. For all those that tend to fall asleep at the wheel of the super quiet LS400, I would recommend turning up the stereo and speeding up to to the point where the tach indicates about 3200-3400 RPM in 5th gear. Things should get a little less "boring" at that point. Like with any other car in this class, maintenance is not cheap. But at least most LEXUS dealers do provide superior service. Looks-wise, I personally think that the 1998-2000 cars look the best. The front fascia is more dramatic and aggressive than the prior models and stock rims are very nice too. The new LS430 with standard rims looks flat out ungly next to a 1998-2000 cars. Best colors are white, titanium silver and black.

Strength:

The best luxury car money can buy.

Weakness:

None for a Luxury car.

Let me put it simple for you guys. If you want the best luxury car for the money. Get the lexus LS 430. Every report I have read has confirmed that lexus is the most reliable car and the most comfortable car. Look, if you want most luxurious and comfortable car out of the Luxury car group, the clear winner is the Lexus. If you want a car with a sports car feel. GET A SPORTS CAR. A luxury car is suppose to feel soft because their design to be CONFORTABLE not sporty!!!!!! Please don''''t buy the Mercedes they are total junk. Over the last 2 years they have lot total respect with consumers. I have owned 3 Mercedes in the past as well as 3 lexus so I really know what I''''m talking about here. Mercedes has become like the German equivalent of Chevy( which is a bad thing). !

Automatic lights. Sound system. Plenty of room front and back. Automatically handles the little things of driving.

Weakness:

Upkeep is expensive. Service offsets that expense somewhat. Everyone wants to take my car on trips!!

I LOVE THIS CAR!! I have said this so often since I bought it a year ago. It is so comfortable and a joy to drive! My business and life are hectic, and I want a car I don''t have to think about, that makes driving in So. Calif. traffic pleasant and smooth. Others may find this car a bore. For me, it''s pure pleasaure!
