Strength:

Turbo, stylish good looks, gas mileage, long lived

Weakness:

It's not an aero with the extra ponies.

Fantastic car that is fun to drive and practical to own. This is my 4th Saab and they have yet to disappoint. Safe, reliable, and fun. What else do you want from a car?

Model Reviewed: SAAB 95 SE (LPT, 185hp)

Strength:

- High torque output - Excellent handling and performance. - Great stability and suspension system.

Weakness:

- Noticeable air noise when driving more than 80 km/h. - Traditional design that needs to be reconsidered. - smoother gearshifting needed.

the SAAB 95 provides a great driving pleasure and comfort, espicially when cruising. The handling is very good, and it shows an excellent stability, even at high speeds! Because of the turbo charged engine, the torque is more than what you excpect compared to some competitives. Hence, the performance is just great.

Model Reviewed: Saab 9-5 AERO

Strength:

Rare, good-looking, gas mileage, acceleration, ride, handling, good commuter, roomy, mid-size, 5-speed, factory warranty - SAAB replaced parts with no hassle (Torr's SAAB in Lompoc, CA)

Weakness:

Electrical - purchased with burned out headlights, SAAB Information Display pixels missing, courtesy light burned out, auto-dimming rearview mirror inoperable

This car is beautiful to look at and also to drive. I love that it is so rare. I don't expect to see another one (red on black) on the road. I was looking for a sedan with a manual and good gas mileage and this is perfect. I also considered the 528 and 2.7T. The AERO's acceleration is excellent and ride is smooth and quiet. Gas mileage in mostly highway driving is over 29 MPG. Torque steer is no myth. The steering wheel really does tug to the right when you get on the gas in low gear (1st & 2nd) - just be expecting it and it's no big deal. I still have a year left on the factory warranty. If you buy used, make sure your 30K service is done before 36 months from the original in-service date. SAAB will pick up the tab and save you $400 plus. Luckily I purchased the car and took it in just 3 days before the 36-month expiration. Finally, I was happy to find that Consumer Reports rates the 9-5 as a Good Bet.

Strength:

Great handling, great looks secially with the 17 inch wheels and rear spoiler and the bonnet strip gives it a stronger look. Great audio. I have driven 25000 miles without a hitch.Safety is great and A/C stands out in 125 deg F temperatures. Leather can stand those temperatures and wear out nicely.

Weakness:

Small problems here and there which I would call nuisances but nothing to worry about.

Excellent vehicle. I am surprised to read so many negative reviews but could be over expectation from different people. Anything mechanical or electrical can go wrong at any time with anything. I am in love with my SAAB. Minor problems here and there but nothing serious. I would recommend it to anyone.

Strength:

Good acceleration (250 hp). Nice leather and very comfortable seats. Great safety rating. Plenty of trunk room. Good stereo and trip computer. Nice climate system. I like the sporty look and the 17" wheels. Great price for this much car.

Weakness:

High maintenance costs, including having to use high grade gas. Visibility on driver's side somewhat limited. Dealing with GM dealership. Only 4 year/50,000 mi warranty.

Lots of car for the price. Comfortable, safe, luxurious, and still with some pick up when needed. Like everything from the rims to the smell. I had narrowed the search down to two other European near-luxury cars, but this one won hands down. Initial quality seems to be quite good with only one defect found so far. Recommend this car to anyone willing to look at something a little different.

possible fault on DI unit is a bit too early for my liking

I bought my 9-5 in the UK for about 5600 pounds, that's about $8,000, after owning a non turbo 9000CSE, I liked the 9000 but missed the power. (i had previously owned 8 mercedes c-class 280's). I saw the 9-5 for sale from a guy about 230 miles from me amd just bought it on a whim over the internet. I travelled up to get her and love it to bits. I have had my Saab specialist fit a tuned up management system and boost valve and get 220 hp but 35 mpg. I love this car, it is the best car I have had that I didn't owe finance on. Plus it is big enough to act as a family run about. I can travel 200 miles in it and get to meetings feeling relatively fresh, well done Saab. I am concerned that it my be developing a fault with the direct ignition unit at only 70,000 miles but at 220 dollars here in the UK it's cheap enough. I am a car designer by trade and would have another Saab 9-5 without hesitation, maybe a 9-5 Aero next though.

Weakness:

Unreliable

What started out as a great car turned into one horrible experience. I still like the way the car drove, the gas mileage, the interior, the feel, the look but Saab is too unreliable. In the space of a year we had to replace the transmission, the shift linkage, the catalytic converter. In addition, the DI (direct ignition) failed, stranding my wife and two kids on the highway. Apparently, all 9000 and 9-5s have this chronic DI failure. And it doesn't give you a warning - all of a sudden, no power. At the end of the day we had Saab buy back the car.

Awesome A/C (important in Arizona!) Room (a huge trunk; room for 5 adults) Powerful Turbo (shockingly good on gas!) Harmon Kardon Audio (worth the expense) Ignition Switch

Weakness:

Not enough of them out there! (it's lonely driving a Saab in Arizona!)

I adore my car! It is the most underrated luxury car on the market! After 7 1/2 years of driving a BMW 3 series, I was reluctantly in the market for a new car. I decided that after my BMW and previous Acura, which were flawless, I wanted to try something totally different. It was a great decision. I love the room, power, comfort, gas milage, luggage room (I moved and used it as a truck!) Don Mackey Saab in Tucson is first class! Nathan, Charlie and Gary are true professionals. This car was a gift to myself for my 26th birthday and they made it a special occasion. All in all, a great experience a year and 15,000 miles later with no problems and great A/C!

Strength:

See above.

Weakness:

Several for a car that cost this much money. See above. The seats and steering are cheap; the car has already been through a turbo (14,000 miles) which I found unbelievable. Carpets are thin.

Handles well and a good car to take on a trip. Storage is adequate and I like the cupholders. On the downside, the list is long. The car is "tinny" and does not feel as solid on the road as it did during the testdrive. There have been many mechanical issues and several parts have been on backorder. Why pay for a 9-5 if it is in the shop all the time and they give you a lesser 9-3 as a loaner? I thought Saab made better products. I will never lease or buy another one.

Model Reviewed: 9-5 Aero Wagon (manual)

Strength:

Excellent quality (zero problems in almost 2 years - never been to the dealier except for scheduled maintenance) Strong engine, very comfortable, superb highway cruiser, good gas mileage, great stereo, nice size

Weakness:

Engine power & torque do not come on as smoothly as a normally aspirated 6 cylinder. Car feels underpowered initially and then comes on abruptly at 2000 rpm. Torque steer noticeable, but easily controlled. Gearbox pretty bad. It does not shift smoothly and quickly. Sticks in neutral & feels like it is being forced into gear on 1-2 and 2-3 upshifts. 3-4 is fine. Hard to keep up with the automatics out of stoplights. 2nd gear too high to lug around right angle corners around town. If this is typical, Saab shouldn't offer the option. Probably will turn car in at lease end for this reason. Dealer service department poor. Not responsive to this issue and rarely answers the phone, even to make an appointment! Why isn't a shop manual available at a reasonable price? Larger ouside mirrors to reduce blind spots.

A good car, almost a great one. Attractive appearence & useful size. Great on the open road. Less satisfying to drive around town. Aero engine may be too much of a good thing. Not smooth enough to be a real BMW competitor. Really could use 4 wheel drive to balance the chassis with all that power. Gearbox not up to par.
