Volvo S70 Luxury

Volvo S70 Luxury

DESCRIPTION

When 1996 was coming to an end, a new Volvo model was introduced, the Volvo S70.

The Volvo S70 was developed from the successful 850 models, which had been on the market since 1991.

The exterior of the new S70 showed softer styling than its predecessor, but still carryied a strong Volvo identity. Inside the car, the dashboard was new as was most of the interior. In the area of safety a number of improvements were made.

The Volvo S70 was produced until 2000.

Strength:

Engine is 100% reliable. Sound system is excellent as long as you can hit the reset for when the CD stops taking CDs. Seats are VERY comfortable. I dont hear any noises or rattling and the cupholders are fine. Power seems great to me.

Weakness:

Told directly by Volvo that batteries are substandard. Brakes wear quickly because of soft material used which stops the car well but leaves a lot of dust. Car too low to the ground. Tires are too small, handle poorly and wear quickly. All the stuff about lighting and electrical is true. Alignment is very hard to maintain. Door material bubbling also is annoying.

Very Important. Be sure you are confident in your service shop. Both in quality of work and in fair pricing. My solution was to find an independent Volvo shop with decades of experience. Volvo dealer overestimated labor and recommended unnecessary work--all in writing which I still have. Be sure you truly get preventative maintenance that you pay for. I like my car but there are repetitive weaknesses. Read on for more.

Very solid car. No creaks or squeaks or groans. Very nice interior. I love the leather and wood trim. People think the car is new and it has 49K on it now! Roomy trunk and fold down rear seats. Best safety you can get. Lots of nice touches like dual auto temp control, lots of interior lights, quality feel to interior materials and switches.

Weakness:

Small cupholer in front, none in back. Busy ride, you feel every bump. Some engine noise from 5 cylinder engine but mostly on acceleration, quiet at cruise.

Very nice luxury family sedan. Wonderful seat comfort, great performance with low pressure turbo engine. I get about 19 to 22 mpg around town in mixed driving. SOLID car that should last a very long time. So far only minor problems that have all been taken care of under warranty for free. Purchased as used certified. Please note that I have an excellent dealer and the dealer can make all the difference!

Strength:

Power, handling and brakes are the best.

Weakness:

A few annoying hardware problems. All were covered by warranty and some were supposedly replaced with upgraded Volvo parts.

Excellent handling and the turbo really performs. Goes 60 to 100mph in a flash. I love that engine. Front seats are very comfortable.

Beautiful car. We have an 2000 S70 fully loaded (leather seats, CD chngr, sunroof, etc). Most comfortable car we have ever owned. When it works, it''s a pure joy to drive. It makes traffic jams bearable!

Weakness:

Little things break on it continuously. These little things cost big money after a while. The light bulbs are continuously blowing and we have to replace the bulbs. Not very reliable.

We are Americans who live/work in Germany and we bought our Volvo over here. European cars don''t have 4 year warranties like they do in the states (Americans are SO lucky!), instead the standard is a one year warranty. Anyway, in the very beginning we had problems with the car but most of the problems were aesthetic. But after a few months the problems started mounting. I won''t go into all the aesethetic problems here, just the mechanical. Below are the items that needed repairing in the two years that we''ve owned the car. Most of these problems we had to pay out of pocket, because it happened after our 1 year warranty expired: 1. Ignition switch broke 2. Electric Windows died 3. Heater blower quit blowing 4. Rotors replaced 5. Locking mechanism replaced 6. Strange high pitched engine noise (never remedied)

Not very similar products, but we had a Chevy S10 and a Honda Civic that didn''t give us the problems this car has given us. Our next car will probably be a japanese car again. I will never buy a Vo

Safety Rock solid ride and drive Great looking Fit and Finish

Weakness:

I do not love the local servicing dealer

This model continues the 240 legacy. Rock solid feel strong acceleration great fuel economy. These are more Euro like than anything Japan is turning out. Far nicer feel and easier to love than the numb Japanese competitors. This car is for the Euro set no question, it is a throwback to its roots and is the last of the real Volvo''s. The new S80s are really to Ford like to be taken seriously.

Strength:

Solid feel to body. Comfortable seating.

Weakness:

Poor fit and finish to body; areas missing final coating of paint on inside of door edges. Poor ride; rides like a truck. Poor handling; sways and dives on turns. Front end too heavy; tire life is short. Difficult to keep front end aligned. Slight variations in front tire pressure cause dramatic front end handling issues; severe pulling and drift. No power or pick-up. Numerous electrical problems. Economy car marketed as a near-luxury model; the car should be priced lower to reflect the quality and ride of the vehicle. Many recalls.

I purchased a 1 Yr old S70 from a New Hampshire dealer; good experience, clean car with 14,000 miles. Nice dealer. I found out later that the car was a former Avis rental car from California ! The car looks good and is comfortable. Feels solid; but has had a lot of problems with the front end and suspension as well as the electrical system. The front end is always going out of alignment; this was the first year of the front wheel drive and I do not think they perfected the design. The front end is very heavy and the tires wear out at 12-15k intervales. I have had the front end aligned 4 times in 2 years of use. The car has no power and is a dog for handling. The electrical system acts up often from having cab lamps go on for no reason to having the rear license plate light stay on. The car has been in for several recalls to the electrical controls and lamp holder units. I owned a SAAB before this car and I am very disapointed in the design and level of quality, fit and finish to the Volvo S70 body. This is an economy car sold at a near-luxury price. I would not buy another Volvo.

The best car ever build. You can go 220 km/h and it feels like 100 km/h. It has good handling, lots of rooms, very comfotable seats, I could go on, and on... The only problem that we had was with turning signals that were replaced. No problems so far. I recomend that car over any other car in its class!!!
