Model Reviewed: CL-S

Strength:

Acceleration
- Sequential Sportshift - The best of both Manual and automatic
- Exceptional Handling
- Sundance Gold
- Navigation System is fantastic

Weakness:

- Manual Steering wheel tilt.
- On-wheel radio controls not robust enough -- need to be able to change CDs more easily.

I came in for the value of the CL. After test-driving quite an array of cars, I found the CL has the right combination of price, features and reliability.

Then I saw the CL-S. It only took one drive before I was signing up for my 4-year lease. The CL-S is more pricey than it's lesser brother, but it is a fantastic vehicle. The combination of the 260hp engine and the efficient chassis (including the Nav system I had to have), the CL-S has fantastic acceleration.

As anyone who has a CL-S. This should be in the sports car category.

Strength:

leased this car primarily because of honda ownership loyalty program. i've had at least one acura product since '87. at 17,000 miles, only one trip back to the dealer for a loose break light. clean albeit unremarkable exterior. responsive. a pleasure to drive. have always loved acura radio controls on steering wheel.

Weakness:

probably looks more like a honda than an acura. Faux wood on dash looks faux.

leased at $355/mo (15K/year), 36 mos. loaded. a great value in the sports coupe field. would highly recommend it.

Strength:

Drivetrain, styling, fit and finish. Ride quality is firm without being harsh.

Weakness:

No side trim to protect from door dings. No manual transmission.

Highly recommend this new coupe from Acura. Handling is sure footed and doesn't feel like front wheel drives of the past. Hugs the road and inspires confidence with great brakes. The sequential automatic is fun to use when you feel like it, or you can leave it in drive and just cruise.
The sound of this V6, when opened up, is music to the ears. The 0-60 time of 6.4 for a car priced thousands lower than Audi and BMW was the clincher for me. The dealer was willing to do some negotiating however because I traded a car in it is difficult to say exactly what I paid. I would say close to 30K out the door. This car is fully loaded with every option except the DVD navigation system. Sound system is wonderful. For the person who is looking for a fast, sporty coupe at a reasonable price. Can you tell I'm happy?

Model Reviewed: 2.2CL

Strength:

- Styling especially from side
- Styling especially from rear end
- Pretty good performance if pared with MANUAL (this 2.2 engine is too weak for automatic.. just like the old BMW 318..)
- LOT of room... can take up to 4 golf bags..
- RELIABLE.. I have never had ANY problem... you just need to forget about anything and just drive...

Weakness:

- Styling.. from front..
- wide turning radius which also means slow turns...
- This car is just too high.. (I ended up lowering my car by almost 2 inches.. which also removed the excessive roll.. I really recommend this if you want to transform your cl to a good handling machine..)

I paid about 25,000.. since I bought it even before the 97 model year.. But even with that money.. I think it's a decent buy.. I actually liked it so much that I once thought about buying the new CL as my next car.. However, I just hated the new CL's look.. It's just plain ugly.. and I am sure that Acura will acknowledge that they did something wrong..

I did some modifications on my car.. I lowered my car and then changed the shock absorber.. which I highly recommend.. I think the car's ground clearance is way too high and lowering the car will make this car look MUCH better and also it just handles better since it virtually eliminates the roll.. the stock cl handles ok and it was pretty fun to drive.. but to someone like me.. it's suspensions were just too soft.. I personally like firm cars.. not as firm as the s2000, but as most BMWs with sports package..

Similar Products Used:

- BMW 318 - CL is faster.. as i mentioned.. if paired with manual
- BMW M3 - what do you expect.. M3 is a legend...
- Honda Accord - I assume these two are the same thing.. but I personally hate accord and like my CL.. but it's a personal call
- Audi A4 - I will go with A4.. but you may feel more exclusive with CL.. not much CLs around .. not as much as A4s..
- Tons.. but I don't regret my purchase..
- I actually tried the Lexus IS today.. great acceleration.. smart manumatic.. nice exterior.. but cheap looking interior.. TOO MUCH oversteer when you floor the gas pedal with the gear set on the 2nd (which is the lowest you can set with the F-1 wannabe shift..).. Overall.. great car with great handling.. but I need to check out the coming BMW330 in order to see what would win the comparison.

Strength:

Reliablity, convenience, great visibility, modest style and good price.

Weakness:

Weak acceleration on V4 model, Steering and brake are only ok. Some windnoise in highspeed(80+ MPH)

I bought the car as pre-own/used. It makes a great secondhand car. For lesser than $16,000, everything from CD player, environment control and leather seats are at your disposal. Noticably, except routine oil change and alignment, it had never given me any trouble even during a 1200 miles cross country drive. Interior is very thoughtfully designed and easy to reach. Woodtrim on dash adds a sense of elegance. Style, as previous reviewer mentioned, is a matter of love/hate. It doesn't make intimidating statements like "I make more than you", or it behaves as a "short pennis enhancer". However, it fits a newly graduate who wants to maintain a hubble apperance yet appreciates some fine things perfectly. Specially, it is a great "Sun" day car. With plenty sunlight and fresh air through the moonroof, I am awake in no time without any coffee.

Strength:

The panels/dashboard/buttons were well planned and thought out since it wasn't cumbersome to use any of them. The interior is roomy and the drive is just wonderful.

Weakness:

It guzzles gas. Well, can you tell I used to drive a 4 cyl. car.

I was able to grind the price on this beauty at the dealership. Out the door price was $20,625. This is a certified pre-owned car that's fully loaded except for leather seats. I just bought it this weekend and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

The interior is almost the same. The CL is still a lot classier.

Strength:

Build quality, sound system, engine (3.0 VTEC V-6), features for price (3.0 CL premium);

Weakness:

steering is precise but lacks feel, this limits spirited driving; styling is love-it or hate-it from the rear and too Accord-derived from the front

This is my wife's daily driver, which she picked out for herself. I drive it mostly on trips, for which it's great. The engine is powerful and refined and more than adequate for two-lane passing. It's a fairly quiet cruiser with a decent sound system (Bose) and decent trunk space for a coupe. As a former racing driver, however, I can say that this is not a sports coupe for the really enthusiastic driver (which I'm not on the public roads). The handling is competent but not exceptional (like other Hondas)and the steering lacks feel (the tightening as the limit is approached) that inspires confidence in spirited driving. If you're in the market for a small, Japanese Thunderbird, then a used CL will be a good and reliable used car.

Strength:

State of the art styling, very comfortable interior. Many standard features (no need for options here). Heated seats, responsive engine, good BOSE stereo, roomy back seat for a coupe.

Weakness:

I do not like the spoiler- do not choose this option. It ruins the cool looking back, however the back does not look very good in light colors.

Paid around $26,000 at the time with the Premium package. It was well worth it for a perfectly reliable car, that is extremely comfortable. If you find a better deal LET ME KNOW!

Strength:

Roomy
Quick acceleration
Build quality
Solid-feeling

Weakness:

Turning radius
Brakes

I've had this car for almost four years, and I think it's great. I especially like the acceleration--really good for a four cylinder car. There's also plenty of room inside (much more than my old Acura Integra!). It also feels very luxurious; even though it isn't that expensive: $25,000 with all options.

There are two things I don't like about this car: the turning radius is way too big, making it harder to park in tight parking garages. The other weakness is the brakes; they just don't seem strong enough.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this car for someone who wants a solid two-door.

Yes, I would highly recommend this car. I think it is one of the most overlooked and under appreciated sports coupes around. It would be an excellent purchase as a used car, since the new cl has been completely re-designed and will be more expensive.
