Strength:

Overall the drivetrain is excellant. This car is ten years old and looks about two years old. The paint is very shiney.

Weakness:

Leaks oil and the engine is very hard to work on.

The car has just under 100k on it now. The only "real" problem that exists now is an oil leak. It loses about two quarts per three thousand miles. The 3.4 liter engine runs great and has plenty of power. The trans. shift perfectly. The ride/handling is great. The only thing wrong with it is that one of the rear struts is leaking. They are very cheap and easy to fix though.

Strength:

Roomy interior, very comfortable. Great ride down the highway and around the city. I had to upgrade tires, front rotors, oil filter, air filter.

Weakness:

Console in between front seats, made of plastic, had to be totally repaired with duck tape, can not find a replacement! Intake valve gasket failed, which caused oil to mix with the coolant. Brown, mud type sluge in radiator. "BAD NEWS" $900 dollar repair at the dealer...No warning, no leaks, no overheating. Glad I checked the radiator when I did. To bad no one caught it sooner!

Overall, I really enjoy this autos feel on the road. Great power "off the line" Good handling with new Bridgestone tires and "PowerSlot" rotors. Has only 57K miles on it, I change oil every 3000. Trans has no problems, as others have talked about.

-power, power, power! -fuel economy -plush ride -room -nice, big, visible tailight -little lights on the front doors that illuminate the power window and lock switches

Weakness:

-handling -brakes could be a little stronger

This is my first car. It has the 3.1L V6 with the 4spd. auto. Originally owned by an older lady, the car has only 20,700 miles on it. The V6 has plently of smooth, great sounding power. I am 17, and I just love this engine! Handling is less than sporty, but I'd rather have the comfy ride. Plenty of room for my friends and their stuff. I really couldn't ask for a better car at this point. I plan on driving it well over 200k. GM knew what they were doing when they built this one.

Strength:

Roomy with plenty of spunk under the hood. Excellent ride quality, that I think would only be enhanced by some better quality tires. The styling is actually pretty sharp, most of my friends were suprised to find out it was a Century. Pretty good fuel economy, and an overall solid feel around town and on the highway.

Weakness:

The dash reflects a lot on the windshield and at first took some getting used to. Now I don't even notice it. Would have liked some different rubber on the road, and I have noticed some less than snug fit with the carpeting.

So far my wife and I love this car. We are both in our mid-twenties and were a little concerned about the Grandpa & Grandma image the Century is generally associated with. However we drove other cars in its class and we both though it was an excellent value for the options and quality that it appeared to have. I had a 3.1L in a car in the past and never had many problems even with 200K miles. We seriously looked at the Alero, but I was sceptical about its engine options, and my buddy had a lot of brake problems with his. We have had no problems as yet and have been impressed with the pickup and fuel economy the 3.1 has delivered, as well as its roominess.

It's old, and has been broken into three times, gotten into one accident with a 18 wheeler, and has 310,000km's on it... best of all.. it's still good to go!

Weakness:

Power locks, doors, and trunk release don't last. But, when it did work it worked well.

The car is super heavy (built like a tank! 4400lbs!), and you'll be lucky to get 10km/L. It used to be quiet before the seals started to shrink. The engine is awesome! nice torque, good feel, kind of noisy for a v6 3.3L... but it's old. Great car... and has been faithful to my family for years.

this is a tough one well at 214k 1 power window is going out and power locks just quit engaging. but thats what ya get from a 12 year old car with over 200k reamed miles.

well basically this is the best investment ive ever made. $150 she had 125k from a friend who had to have money, but did need complete brake job ($350) and left tie rod end.. ive put over 70k on her without a single problem . 34 states ,extreme cold, always have pedal to floor. now has 214k will runs like the day i bought it. i absolutly love this car and plan to keep it for ever. fixing whatever along the way

Strength:

Very reliable. Trunk is huge. Very comfortable on long trips. Seat backs recline all the way. (I have slept in this car in a rest area many, many times.) It will go from 35-40 mph to 80+ real quick. It is an easy engine to work on. Brakes are simple and easy to replace. It uses a single serpentine belt that can be replaced with one wrench in about 3 min. It's a great drive-in car! (Whether you're watching the movie or not)

Weakness:

The hydraulic arm that holds up the hood wears out and the hood whacks ya on the head. The transmission has poor performance in reverse. Brake performance is below average. The stock alternators wear out to fast. Stereo is not great. Poor turning radius. My 70 Riviera can turn tighter. Overall workmanship is average at best, with the exception of the engine.

We bought this car in 1993 with 10k miles on it. I have driven it for 10 yrs. It has the 3.3L V6, very strong. It now has 227k miles on it and gets the same gas mileage it did from day one (22-24mpg). It doesn't burn any oil and runs very smooth. It's on its 3rd alternator; first one went at about 80k, the second at about 120k. I replaced the original water pump at 170k ($28). I replaced the electric fan at about 70k. It's easy on tires. No other major repairs. Just normal maintenance, oil changes at 3k, regular transmission services, etc. It has always got the highest octane I could find. Half of it's life it was in Spokane WA with 20 below zero winters and the other half in Seattle with all the rain, and countless hours of stop and go traffic. This has really been a great car. I always get "wow, this thing really moves" when I step into it, since they thought they were in grampa's car! EVERTIME I take it in to get serviced nobody can believe how well it runs with the miles it has on it. I was recently involved in a fender bender and when I took it in to get an estimate, the guy had me start it and then asked for the mileage, I said 226k, and he said "it sounds REAL good for having 126k on it". When I corrected him he walked around to look for himself. I remember at around 130k thinking I should replace it, but when it got to 170k and didn't show any real wear, I stopped worrying about it. I am now getting ready to give it to my sister and I am confident she will get a lot more miles out of it. I know anything can happen at this point but it's just not showing any signs of failure.

Weakness:

1. Slow as hel... no acceleration whatsoever. (c'mon now it is only 18 years old) 2. The appearance is better for older drivers...not people who care about style and add-ons etc.

Got the car 4 years ago for a thousand dollars. It had one owner who barely used it. We got it with 45 thousand miles on it and it now has 60. Im in high school and I use the car all the time so it gets alot of city abuse day in-day out...yet it holds up like a champ.

On the skylark, alot, but the old centuries are a joke!

Weakness:

everything

Well I drive for a living and accepted this job for a company and the car they gave me was an '86 Buick custom Century. The laughing joke of the road! Nothing worked properly. Had no power, but what does one expect from an old Buick 4 cyl.? Well to make a long story short I was driving on the highway one day doing about 65 and all of a sudden the engine blew up! Don't know what the hell happened, but the cabin of the car just filled up with smoke and the engine died. It had 160,000 miles on her. Well my job went out and got me a new car the next day. An 88 Buick Skylark with only 43,000 miles on her. Now the skylark is fast and dependable. It's 2.4 liter 4 cyl engine is fast, but needs more torque. I have pinned the neddle on her and say I have reached about 90 miles per hour. My Saturn, which is my car, would dust any of these old Buicks.

Strength:

Exceptional fuel economy 33MPG highway. I like its ride/drive and looks good. Good acceleration. This by far the best car I have ever purcahsed: just wished I would have gone for the Regal, but wait that would have been an extra $4K.

Weakness:

Gray dash reflects light which impairs vision out of the windshield. I put a lot of Amourall on it though. Trunk is so light it does not shut/latch without a strong push. Keyless entry system remote lacks range. The remote pushbuttons must be pressed hard to activate system. In exteme sunlight the dash lights, are hard to read. (i.e. highbeam, turn signal) Radio FM signal strength very poor! Rear window defroster did not power-up under extreme cold conditions. This happened only 1 time. My comments on the radio and remote are NOT nickpicking.

I travel for a living and base my vehicle purchases on the rental cars I drive. My previous vehicle was a Nissan Altima. I drove that car for 50K miles-only problem blew out the speakers. The car had a extended warranty--and Nissan took over (8 attempts) 6 months to repair the problem. I was to the point of calling the service manager at Peachtree Nissan everyday. Guess what I did not buy another Nissan. The Altima was a very good car--the radio/speakers are purchased parts (not made by Nissan). The lack of timely service steered me away from them forever. I liked the Century's ride and looks so I purchased one. My negative comments on the Buick are being extemely nickpicking: I can find fault with anything.
