Strength:

Seats are comfortable but vision out of ther drivers seat is poor. Definite safety issues with visability

Weakness:

At 64,000 miles the head gasket failed, water pump failed, water pump gaskets failed, oil pan gaskets failed, and the lower coolant line was leaking. Dealer was good to work with but GM customer service was not willing to listen to issues.

I would recommend that readers avoid the 2006-2008 Impalas with the 3.5L V-6 and the vehicles which share this motor:
2006-2007 Buick Terraza
2006-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
2006-2008 Chevrolet Uplander
2008 Chevrolet Malibu
2006-2008 Pontiac G6, Montana SV6
2006-2008 Saturn Relay
2007-2008 Saturn Aura

I have owned several GM vehicles in the past and this is the third which has had head gasket issues or other engine issues. Only good GM vehicle ever owned was a Buick LeSabre with the 3800 V6 engine.

stearing shaft

I bought a 2007 Chev Impala on Dec 29, 2007 and it is now July 2, 2008. I have had this car in the shop 6 times since purchasing it. I have only 400 miles left on my warrenty and can not find a dealer who can get me in to service it the ball joint and stearing shaft we believe are not working right. I have had it in 2 other times for something with the stearing. I would never buy another GM product again due to the service that they provide. I have been dealing with someone on the phone who has been trying for 2 weeks to get me in but yesterday she told me that it is now up to me the customer to get it in and get it fixed before the warrenty runs out. Way to go GM you keep telling me sthere are other option now the clock is running with the warrenty and you tell me good luck but you need to find some Chev dealer to fix it. Wonder whos problem it will be when the stearing goes out and someone gets into an accident while under warrenty?

overall performance great

Weakness:

I can't think of any.........

This is a govt owned vehicle. I average 2300-3300 miles per month.Recieved the car new. It has 149,000 miles on it now. The oil/filter is changed between 3500-4500- miles.Transmission oil/filter every 50,000-60,000 miles.
The car has never left me stranded.Runs like a stripped ass ape 70-80 mph all day. 26 mpg at 65mph. Great acceleration, handling and comfort.
It's never be tuned-up or had any problems.
Normal brake, tires and wiper blade wear.
I liked the car so much, my wife bought the same make and year.No problems with her either.
If you don't like this car, you won't like any car!

Model Reviewed: Impala LS

Strength:

Nice design, good power, fair handling in corners, comfortable interior, insanely large trunk

Weakness:

Transmission replaced at 68,000, two new computers, mass airflow sensor, ignition key switch for no-start problems, rear shock towers, front ball joints, catalytic converter. All this stuff was NOT under warranty, and car was just over warranty by few thousand each time, with no remorse from GM. Cannot keep passenger side windows cleared on defrost, poor design with the vents, due to curvature of dashboard, cannot point vents at window, poor defrost power even on high. Would fog even with just driver in car.
Really poor visibility out back window, and front pillars very hard to see around (ask a police officer!)

The car is nice to drive, comfortable to be in, but is a mechanical nightmare.

Model Reviewed: Chevy Impala LS

Strength:

- Powerful yet quite* 3800 II engine (3.8 V6 - 205hp) (*in the impala that is)
- Comfortable ride (not as great as the Buick's though)
- Good, easy to use button layout. (Best place I've seen the hazard button and traction control button)
- Front seat comfort
- Handling/road holding (Not as great as some sports cars, but still very good)
- Home-link, Information Center, and OnStar options.
- Rear seat to trunk door way.
- Well lit cabin
- Excellent wireless remote range

Weakness:

- Rear Seat Comfort
- Fuel Economy (Not the greatest 19/28)
- Steering wheel shape (hard to find a comfortable way to hold it)
- Artificial leather (Makes the animals happy, not me)
- Road and wind noise (not excessive, but it's still there)

Overall, this is the best car I have owned. My sister purchased an '03 Impala LS (1yr ago)(63k miles), only had 2 problems, Security system/door locks (fixed: faulty sensor I believe: $200) and a new battery, which really isn't anything serious ($80). She drove it all the way from Nebraska to Florida, only a 10hr break. No problems.

For my '01, 0 problems ever since purchase (aprox. 8 months ago). During purchase, it had 33k miles, now it has 38k.

Overall: I'd highly recommend the Chevy Impala, just stay away from ones that have had neglectful owners, and yield to high millage Impala's.

Strength:

Extremely comfortable and roomy.
Plenty of power with the base 3.5L V6
Great ride quality
Good gas mileage
Good buy for the money

Weakness:

Factory tires are horrendous
Remote start range could be better
Governor kicks in at only 107mph
ABS should be standard

Excellent car, could not be happier. Very comfortable and roomy, good ride quality, and decent fuel mileage. Only complaints are the factory Goodyear Integrity tires (absolute garbage) and my remote start sometimes will not function if I am more than 10 feet away from the car. Other than that, I love it and would recommend to anyone!

Mechanically

I purchased this vehicle new. It did fine until one month after the standard warranty expired (the mileage was still under 36000). The transmission started slipping. It cost me 2000 to have it rebuilt. I contacted Chevy and they wouldn't do anything for me. It is now another year later, 48000 miles on the car and I have to pay 1300 to have the lifters replaced. A couple of lifters were making noise when engine was cold. The car was taken care of as prescribed by the manual. Regular oil changes and filter changes.

My car runs perfect. after i drive it for at least 100 miles the transmission slips. i have did all necessary tune ups but it still does that.. it jerks into the next gear. Its a nice car but some times it sound like the starter sticks. if you dont change the oil on time you could bend one of the lifters and then it starts you will hear ticking noise. my car also shocks me occasionally
