Strength:

It was inexpensive

Weakness:

Very poor workmandship. Inferior parts used in production. Even at the low price it is still over priced!!

Paid 16K, lease. Has let me stranded on five occasions. Battery/alternator had to be replaced, steering column locked-up, had to replace brake pads twice by 40k, air conditioning had to be replaced (compressor), serpinteen belt broke and idiot lights keep going on and off but dealer cannot find anything wrong. I will never, ever, lease or buy another one of these lemons. Am turning it in this month, June, and driving away in my new LEXUS!!

I would recommend the 2000 Malibu. Many of the reviews here are of early model years. The Malibu came out in '97 and every new model has its fair
share of "bugs." I believe Chevy has done a good job with the production and styling of the Malibu. I have looked at the Impala and Monte Carlo and
I think that Chevy made a BIG mistake in the design of those cars. Who were the "test people" for these cars?!

The 2000 Malibu is a good solid car that should last a very long time with
propper maintenance. If you abuse your car, then your car will not last
regardless of who made it.

I believe most people would be exceedingly happy with this car. But, I would imagine that young professionals and families are most attracted to the Malibu.

Strength:

Great value for the price, roomy, large trunk, fold down rear seats, simple controls, decent engine performance (V6)

Weakness:

Interior looks a little cheaper when compared to the Accord and Camry. Exterior and interior are a little 'boring' - could use a little more flash (perhaps chrome, pinstripes etc., as the exterior is all one color.

I'd recommend the car for someone who is looking to save money or is on a budget. You can get a lot of features (CD/Cassette, power windows/locks, cruise, power seat, interior space) for the money. The ride is smooth and quiet on most road surfaces. Handling I would say is average. This is not a sporty type of car. If you have a family and need to carry a few people or fill up the trunk, it does as good a job as a more expensive sedan.

You do get what you pay for. This is a less expensive car than an Accord or a Camry and it ultimately does look it. However, it is nearly as comfortable and can be purchased with all the features you'd need at a more reasonable price. If you have the money, get the accord or camry. If you want to save a little, you'd be happy with the malibu.

I've had no problems with the car except a battery that died at about 32,000 miles and it was covered under warranty. Otherwise, it has only been in the shop for oil changes and tire rotations. It has 41,000 miles on it now.

Honda Civic sedan (90). Malibu is larger and has a smoother ride. Civic was semi-reliable. Around 70k, a lot went wrong with the cooling system and ac. Was never happy with Honda service (tried 3 different dealers over 7 years). It seemed expensive and they constantly tried to tell me that things were broken on it when they weren't.

Strength:

It has some strengths such as long life coolant, battery protection. Room is bigger.

Weakness:

It was the most terrible car I used. It stopped more than four times on the road or at parking lots within two years. Fuel pump replaced twice. Many more were replaced, such as key box, suspension. Rough ride, roaring engine.

Not recommend to buy it strongly. I spent 14,700$ for basic model. I trade it( 25900 mi) with 4,200$ for 97 Camry ( 47000 mi).

Strength:

Good size, affordable

Weakness:

Noisy, MANY small problems

This car was stolen and I am laughing all the way to the insurance office. I am so happy that someone else thought this piece of garbage was worth something.
I had it for a year and while driving with my 2 year old all the belts broke!
The console was loose and never able to be tightened, it squeaked, the seat belt fell apart, it made a whistling sound when you drove over 80, the rotors are shot.
I have had it in the shop 4 times in the 2 years I owned it. I am so NOT sad this car is gone. Everyone is wondering why I am not crying....because it is a miracle. Praise the lord

Strength:

Trunk space. Body style.

Weakness:

I have had it in and out of the shop so many times that I have lost count. Even now it has a problem that comes and goes, and I have no idea what the problem is. I want to dump it, but I owe too much still. "Crap" is too nice complement for it. I have been seriously dissapointed in it and its performance. Luckily the extended warranty has paid for most of it. Here is a list of the things that I have had problems with: tires (replaced at 25k), brakes (x2), A/C, stereo, ABS (both sides), car stalls out on occaison when leaving from a dead stop (no idea what this problem has been caused by...fuel pump?). I know that there is more, but I can not think of what they are.

$18k. Sux over all. Sadly disappointed. No recommendation from me.

Strength:

This car is very comfortable to drive for someone 5'2". The stereo and temperature controls are easy to reach. I like the gauge panel design and the cup holder on the left side. The interior design was what made up my mind to buy it.

Weakness:

I bought the '97 as a used car in '98. It had 22,000 miles on it. I decided to buy the extended warranty...thank goodness!!! The warranty has replaced - the control arms, the rack and pinion steering, the spring that controls the back of the passenger seat, the water pump, the transmission mount, and I think I'm still leaving something out.

My mistake was not reading consumer reports to find out any problems. I found out later that the '97 received the worst rating for suspension. My car has been at the dealership way to much for my peace of mind. I took the car in with 150 miles before the warranty expired because the coolant light was blinking on. I also complained about engine noise. That's when they replaced the water pump that was leaking and the transmission mount. I still have a lot of vibrations and engine noise that I don't think is normal for 60,000 miles. I will check out the 2000 model to see if Chevy has worked out the first year deficiencies, but at this point I'm considering other cars.

Great Value for Money, Roomy interiors, Spacious boot, Good Stereo.

I would recommend this car to anyone on a tightbudget looking for a midsize car. It costs the same as a Toyota Corolla or a Honda Civic but is comparable in size and value to a Camary or an Accord
