Strength:

GAS MILEAGE (53.7 with my 94.... and 53.1 with my 99... on the freeway/highways) AND between 43-48mpg in the city. Small enough to find mini parking spots and use them Like with my Ford Fiesta, even blizzards and no chains are no problem for the Metro nimble... great turning radius...

Weakness:

Light weight...easy to damage body in slower speed collisions....

It is my second Metro.....and it just showcases the stupidity of American carmakers. I have had 2 straight Metros...both have gotten more than 53 mpg on the highways.... Unfortunately, Chevy killed the Metro.... and came up with the stinker called an AVEO... (epa says only about 35 mpg TOPS).... The Metro is a great little car with no pretentions of great speed or style.... AND with gas above $2.70 per gallon, I find filling it up a lot less painful than many other people. I bought the 99 used...but other than tightening the belts, changing oil and getting tune ups....it has been totally easy to maintain. Why is it the US carmakers screw up so much.... #1 they don't build cars like the Metro or the old Ford Fiesta...and then they stop importing them. Of all my cars, the best have been foreign made.... RANKING: Both Metros and Ford Fiesta in a tie for the best; followed by the Chevy (Isuzu) LUV pickup truck; Plymouth (Mitsubishi) Colt ..... and finally the P.O.S. Ford Escort (BTW... in 1978, I checked out my new Fiesta with a drive to Las Vegas (got 49.86 mpg!!!) The old Fiesta had more power.... but the 50+ mpg on the freeways/highways with my 94 and 99 Metros had to make them impossible to beat. Suggestions.... If you get a chance to by a Metro in good condition ('94 year to 2001) do it. They were the best in reliability. Also 94 was the final year they had the 5-door hatchback (wagon)...a definite plus. If you have any mechanical knowledge, also keep an eye out for another you can cannibalize. At 6-2 I have a size problem in most cars, but not this one... great head and leg room. If Chevy was smart...they would run back and bring back the Metro/ especially updating it with a 5-door hatchback (wagon) and call it a poor man's hybrid.... I get between 43 and 48mpg in the city. IF they had the Metro still, I would always buy one of the models.....

Strength:

Very Dependable, Excellent gas milage

Weakness:

Major parts are expensive and hard to find.

I purchased this car new in Tulsa OK in the spring of 1998. The 99 models were almost ready to come out and the dealer still had several of the 97's on the lot. He said they were not a big seller in OK. I got the 4 cylinder auto with air cond. I have driven it since then commuting approximately 85 miles one way each day. I have 181,000 miles on the car now. At 170k I started noticing a ticking and it go worse. It turns out the sleave of one of the pistons had broken off. In checking other pistons had cracks in the sleave also. I had all 4 pistons replaced. The cost was around $1100. About the same time the throttle cable broke so a trip to the salvage and $4.00 fixed that. My mechanic says that the front suspension is begining to show some signs of wear but not serious yet. I changed the brake pads on the front once and the rear are still good. I drive highway miles only so not much start and stop driving. I do take some kidding about the car but since the car was not worth much I decided to make it realy stand out in a croud so I painted flames across the front and purchased all the (junk) that I could to put on it. Flame seat covers, flame floor mats, even flamed dice to hang from the rear view. I also recently purchased chromed wheels and wider tires for the back, not the front. That wouldn't look cool. Like I said I have had a lot of fun with the car and when I am with a group of friends the conversation usually eventually turns to my hot rod GEO. My daughter and I checked it the other day and it gets 0-60 in 28 seconds. However it keeps up with the interstate traffic realy well. Everyone is amazed at how well the car has held up through all the driving I do and it has saved me a bundle on gas. Although it only gets around 35 mpg with the auto trans. and air cond. I use the car all the time for hauling. We live in the country and have livestock so I regularly haul 3-400# of feed in the back. I am sorry that Chevy has discontinued the mfg of this car. I see a lot of the early 90's Geo's around. To sum up, I will keep this car as long as I can find parts for it. So far I have not needed many.

Strength:

Cheap! Goes anywhere. Reliable. Easy to understand and disect (if you are into that) Lots of room in the engine compartment to maneuver. Fun to drive. Not to concerned about damaging it.

Weakness:

Slow. Small. Wheel wells don't allow for swamp tires.

This has been a great little car for me. I have the 4 banger/5spd. I have had it for 3+ years now and have driven it all across the midwest. I put 20,000 miles on it the first summer I owned it. I am a student and it is so cheap to run and operate. Less than 4 quarts of oil per change. 40-50 miles per gallon hwy. It has been very reliable. In three years, I have put 80,000 miles on it and replaced the front brake pads as well as the clutch plate and spark plugs. I also had a fuel pump problem which caused my injector to die--both happened in the same month so I think they were related. Replacement parts are unusually expensive. A new injector (throttle body) was almost $200. My friends call it (as do I) the metro SUV because it goes EVERYWHERE! The short wheelbase allows it to hurdle most obstacles that would bottom out most cars and some trucks. I already mentioned it has a tiny turning radius. It is light so it handles sand no problem. I never turn up a chance to take it down an ATV trail. Never had a problem. The clutch feels very natural and smooth. Yes it is slow. But it has topped out at over a hundred (105+/-) on a decent sized hill.

* save gas! (with a couple of tricks I learn how to save gas) * Small and sexy * easy to park the car * nice to use in bad weather in city * can turn front seats back down..great for resting. *can push passenger front seat way down, make alot of room in back for more storage of stuffs for moving, etc * Alot of rooms to store in trunk! * comfortable driving * no power auto lock doors and no auto speed ...but can easily bend over to lock both back doors while you are still inside..thats how small it is :o)

Weakness:

*ashtray and drink holder are conflicted..cant use both at same time * dents easily * car sways little bit when drive pass trucks on highways...also during strong winds * Easy to be tempted to speed..lol cuz of the smoothing and relaxing driving-dont relaised that I had gone fast...often had to slow abit ...(no tickets so far lol) *No power steering-hard to turn but I get hang of it and my arms is more stronger :o) lol

Ladies-Thought ya might appericate female owner's opinions :o) Well...for you guys..just go ahead and laugh at female thoughts. I luv it, yet there are few disadvanges. Its perfect for small family or married couple. But I have 2 grandsons around 1 half year old. I didnt relaised how much they would grow and require more bigger car seats. My fiance, my 2 daughters and thier sons all cant fit into my car, so my fiance and I wld ride in his truck and my oldest daughter drive with her sister and thier sons. But this car is good for us in many ways such as run errands, drive 4 hours for pick up/drop off my fiance at work, etc. It sure does save gas! About that 4 hours of driving....I put full gas in it-Made 4 trips on that alone til I refill it. That full gas includes trips to college to pick or drop off my oldest grandsons, shoppings, etc. At first I didnt like it but had no choice-I was in hurry and so badly need another car due ot everyone's needs. Now i love it..just wish different ways inside the car :o)

Everything!!!

None!!!

This is an awesome little car!!! It is so tiny, purrs like a kitten, and gets perfect gas mileage(50 mpg). Everywhere I go, people comment on how cute and small my car is. It attracts a lot of attention. Also, it has very unique features: 1.)It has a 3 cylinder engine which is about the size of a sewing machine. 2.) It has a japanese engine and an American body.(Way to go Chevrolet!!!) 3.) You can put alot of stuff in the trunk for such a little car. I definetly recommend this great car because it is so good!!! And it is so durable!!! If I forget to change the oil for about a year or so, it doesn't hurt it and it just keeps right on purring! What a cool car!!!

Strength:

best investment I've made no major problems(I broke the transmission) 43mpg city/52mpg hwy-supercool@hwy speeds parts inexpensive and easy to find great in snow, hills, anywhere I have traveled. great first car for beginning drivers/students never found a parking space it didn't like handles like on rails love the 5 speed stick

Weakness:

Wish they would bring it back with the turbo(swift gti)

When I first purchased the car new in Germany, It was an economic necessity, now that it's paid for I love it. The biggest problem that I've had was the transmission going out at 60,000 miles(due to hard driving) I was stationed in upstate New York and it was wonderful in snow up to 6" where most other cars couldn't move. I did improve my fuel economy by adding a k&n filter and Bosch platinum 4 spark plugs, those also gave it a little more pep. I haven't had any problems with traveling down the road with traffic(65-75) or passing big rigs. when I had the car about a year, I replaced the rims and tires(from 155/85/13's to 205/40/16's) and got aftermarket sport springs, thus improving handling and traction problems I was having. Plus they gave my Metro a unique look. I get stopped all the time by "tuners" asking what kind of car it is, or how cool it looks. When they hear that it's a Metro, they are suprised, esp when I leave then in the dust. Lol,I can dream.

This my very first car and I love it. My mom and I had a horrible time finding a car for me than we saw the metro. It was heaven sent. It was perfect for my low budget income and the gas milage just made my day. My boyfriend lives about 20 minutes away and for one tank of gas it cost me $10 to fill and lasts me about 400 miles. I have only had two problems with it. One I backed into a pole not paying attention. And another my mom tryed to tow our truck with my metro and the allignment was all screwed up and I lost the treads on my tires causing my back tires to pop. Otherwise that car is my baby I love it so much my boyfriend put a sub in it and surprisingly it sounds so good for being a metro. It is a cute car it's profile matches mine. A big toosh and attitude I love this car and I will keep it forever.
