TRANSMISSION!!!!!!

Lets see...
After reading about this car and after 60,000 miles it's junk, i've only had it for at least 7 months and the only problem would be the transmission fluid. I have to change that dang! thing every 1 to 2 weeks!!

It runs and picks up very well, the air conditioner works good after getting it refilled, SMOKE does come out ever so often out of the exsaust (which i don't know what that means).

I have at over 122,000 miles on this car and it still runs nice and smooth. I had purchased it from the dealer which they found out that the "old" lady that had it, never drove it, but to her work 40 miles away, 2wice a week...

A bunch of miles on that car but interior and exterior is beutiful. After reading all the reviews im afraid of keeping it any longer..

After 60,000 miles it falls apart

My family WAS a Chrysler family we have owned at least 7 of them in the 10 years. I bought this car brand new in Oct. 2000. The first 60,000 miles or so, the only problem were the brakes (replaced 3 times). In the last 6 mos this car has fallen apart. I have had engine noises, had to replace one of the cellunoids, my ignition tumblers failed and I had to replace my ignition. This past Saturday on the 68,000 mile mark, the front passenger side tie rod broke and the tire came off. Luckily, I was pulling up to my house when it happened. I had my tires replaced 1 year ago, because my front end was making a funny noise and Chrysler told me it was due to my tires. The place where I had my tires done, said that my tires were fine, but they replaced them anyway at my request.

I purchased my Chrysler Cirrus two months ago and it has been nothing but problems.
One day while I was driving it the car started to rev high for the speed I was going. Reving at 7000 only going 80 km. Chrysler really screwed up on the 95 Model
I have been looking at other message boards accross the internet and I've seen nothing but problems with the transmission and wirring. The only thing I like about this car is the 180hp 2.5 V6 engine, everthing els is crap, I'm thinging of getting a std tranny that will bolt on, but who knows what will fit. I might just use the car in the next demolition Derby, see how long it will last.. because thats all it is good for

Strength:

Appearance, comfort, good & easy controls, reasonable (20-27 mpg) gas mileage, decent standard equipment

Weakness:

Weak ABS brakes, heavy for its size, 200 HP would be nice, a cassette player as std equipment? The ride is mediocre at best. Why does the larger and more powerfull Inteprid of the same year get better gas mileage?

I purchased this car, my first Chrysler product, new using a family discount. All maintenance receipts are filed and each tank of gas is recorded. The car was broken in as directed, oil changed every 3000 mi, and Mobil 1 synthetic used from 6000 mi till the present. The trans fluid is changed avery year which amounts to every 15,000 mi. The car is well taken care of and is not driven hard. The car has had a series of quality problems in its 102,000+ miles. 1. Passenger power window failed at 36, 300 miles but was fixed under warranty 2. Stereo died 3. Front brake caliper locked onto the rotor 4. Tailight failed - had to replace the entire assemnly at a cost of over $200 5. Tie rod ends needed replacement 6. Tranmission problem $600+ plus a tow 7. Distributor & sensor failed $1200+ plus a tow There has also been the typical maintenance required such as yearly radiator flushes, brake pads about every 35,000 mi, tires every 40,000 mi, all new hoses and a new serpentine belt. A coworker of mine with an older Dodge Stratus with the same engine / transmisssion combination has experienced the same transmission, tie rod end, and distributor problems. On the plus side, the exhaust system is original possibly due to the length of my commute and no bulbs have burnt out. I have not replaced the timing belt or even had a tuneup. I am now getting 21-22 mpg in city driving and 26-27 highway at near legal speeds. This mileage is actually better than it has ever been but if it dips I will bite the bullet and get a tuneup. I would not recommend purchasing a used 1996 - 1999 Cirrus. I have no idea what might go wrong on a car that has not been properly maintained, and I know what does on a car that has been maintained. If you are able to do heavy duty auto maintenance and get around the high cost of repair then maybe a Cirrus/Sebring would be an OK used car buy. I would be very hesitant in purchasing a new Sebring (Cirrus / Stratus / Breeze renamed) There is no guarantee that Chrysler / Mitsubishi has ever fixed these inherent quality issues with this vehicle. The newer Sebring 2 dr and 4 dr use different 200 hp engines (and transmissions?), a 2.7 Chrysler in one and a 3.0 Mitsubishi in the other. The 3.0 may be a "punched out" version of the 2.5 in mine and may have the same inherent problems. I believe that the 2.7 is the old base Intrepid motor and have no idea how that might be.

EVERYTHING ELSE!

The appearance of the Cirrus caught my attention... It was very "cute", clean and roomy. Little did I know that I would miserable with this car. The night I bought it at the auction, it never made it home. Had to have it towed from PA to Baltimore where I live. Got it to the mechanic and he tells me that the head gaskets are blown and the water pump needs to be replaced. That ran me $1200. This repair takes him almost 2 weeks to fix as he explains he "doesn't like" to work on V6 engines because they are so big. Before the mechanic gives the car back to me, he tells me the fans are not cutting on thus causing the car to over heat. So thats another repair. The dash lights also dim and get bright. I haven't even had a chance to enjoy this car because it's constantly on the lift in the mechanics garage. Save yourself the trouble and bypass the Cirrus. They truely made a mistake with the 95 model

No complaints. If you maintain your car and don't ignore little signs of wear you might have better luck.

Weakness:

none

We bought this car in Jan of 2002, it only had a little over 12.000 miles on it. Now it has about 54.000 miles on it the only things we had to replace was that darn speed sensor, left hub, left tie rod end and the rear brakes. It really is a reliable car and since it is maintained we really haven't had anything major go wrong. My wife drives it over 100 miles per day and her average speed is 75 to 80 mph. It's an excellent road car.

Plenty of power. Comfortable and roomy. Good gas mileage (which is a must these days).

Weakness:

That darn popping noise. Brakes probably need some work, as well as the transmission.

I have driven this car for the last 5 years. I bought it with 26K miles on it. With a couple of exceptions (which I have noticed in other reviews) I have had very few problems with it. First was the brakes. I have had to replace the front brakes twice so far and they are squeeking again. I have had the problem with the transmission where the car won't go out of 2nd gear. This was due to a sensor that had to be replace (just happen to occur 500 miles after the warranty expired). Today I was told that the transmission is leaking (hey, it does have 97k miles on it). This probably accounts for the problems I have been having with the transmission (occasionally won't go into drive after I back up). Also had to replace the power steering bracket and the power steering pully. The last problem, and most annoying, is the "sound" coming from the front drives side. It sounds like of like the popping sound you get when you press down on a Snapple cap, or Gerber (for those with kids). Only occurs when you go over bumps, and has gotten worse over the years. Used to happen only once in a while, now it happens almost anytime I go over a medium or large bump. Took it into the dealer, who heard the sound, but said he couldn't find the culprit. Other than that, the car has been very reliable. I have driven it cross country and it is very comforatble. Replaced the stereo because it didn't have a CD player. Plenty of power for passing and climbing hills/mountains. Do have the problem of the fading outside mirrors, but that isn't that big of a deal. Wish I could figure out what that popping sound is though....

Brakes, Transmission, Gas Mileage, Window Door Noise, Rough Ride

Ok well this is my first car, my parents bought it for me cause I fell in love with the price, looks, and speed! When I test drove it, it was smooth yet rough ride, it cornered great and it was peppy! The car was clean and glossy, so we decided to buy it, it had 93,000 miles on it, it only had one owner before me, after 2 months of pure HAPPYNESS, my car devoloped a noise in my driver door, everytime I went over a bump it sounded like something was loose, I havent had the time to fix the problem yet, I learned to deal with it, PUT UP THE MUSIC! OK after 5 months I noticed everytime it rained the cars transmission would be slow, I would rev but wouldnt go anywhere, then after 7 months of having the car I was introuduced to "LIMP MODE" Limp mode means that when the transmission thinks that theres something wrong it will automatically switch to 2nd gear to prevent anymore damage to the transmission, the car had a mind of its own, the limp mode would go ON and OFF for a month until I couldnt take it anymore, sometime I would be driving normally and the car will dangerously shift to the 2nd gear, once I was driving in the highway going 70mph and it shifted to 2nd gear, I almost had an accident! Well I didnt take it to the Chyrsler Dealership because they would charge me so much money just to take a look at my car, I continued driving after these problems, 8 MONTH, Transmission Blew OUT! My 2nd and 3rd gear were destoryed, I was in the highway when I noticed my RPMS were going 4,500rpm and my trans blew, we took it to a transmission specialist and he got me a rebuilt trans from Chyrsler for 2,300$ bucks, it was worth it cause the car had many extras and it was in mint condition! Ok Other then that huge problem, the car has been there for me alot, except when it died on the highway! I wouldnt recommend the car. OVERALL, The money I spent on it was WORTH IT cause when I bought it and until this day I put many miles, NOW I have 108,000 MILES!! I didnt even have the car for a year, Yes I do drive alot :-)

Intially, this car was perfect. I loved the way it feels inside and when it rides. BUT THEN, the check engine light comes on continuously. The car jerks and shut down on me on the highway. When I had it towed to the dealership, they said they could not find anything wrong with it. But sometimes, it seems like it gets tired or the car is moody. I will not purchase another Chrysler.
