Looks. Park beside a Cavalier or Sunbird, you'll know what I mean right away. Paint/fir and finnish were of excelent quality for a non-German car. Quiet interior with lots of leg room. Girls love this car! Good handling. Very easy to maintain, common filters, plugs and the like.

Weakness:

Horns died a couple of times. Yes, the windows leak if you spray water directly at the seals. Passenger seat track was replaced w/i two months. The idiot kid who preped it for delivery got undercoating overspray all over the paint. Poor performance (I-4 140hp) and not so great mileage. the nose is not low, just long, you've got to be carefull on the curbs. Stock Goodyears sucked, big time squealing on corners.

My buddy bought a Talon 2 weeks after I got the Avenger, same motor/trans combo, he was a bit quicker due to the weight difference. Similar experiences with dealer service as the others here, costly and not too friendly, either. This car got looks no matter where I went, and when you tell people it's a Dodge Avenger they all go 'oooh, cool name' I'm into drag racing and it's no good for that, but the factory team uses them for Pro-Stock so I couldn't resist. If you are looking for a nice driver with looks that won't fade you into the background like 99.9% of the imports (how many Civics did you see today? You probably saw dozens, but noticed none!) then this car is a good buy at any price, the older ones can be had for resonably low bucks now. I'd buy one again, or maybe a Stratus R/T...

It looks wonderful. Mine's black with leather interior and 17" wheels. Performance out of such a tiny v6 is nice. Exhaust tone is fun too. Comfortable power leather seats, killer stereo, nice cockpit interior.

Weakness:

Brakes. Everyone else has said it too. I bought it with 28,000 miles on it and the rotors started warping.

Sweet looking car with surprising performance for such a small engine. This is not a car to beat on, however. A 16 year old would destroy this car.

Strength:

Looks. The car has one of the best mugs on the road, similar to it's cousin the Viper ... but with less amenities. The car also has a great deal of interior room, front and back. I've had many rear seat passengers say, "Wow, there's more room back here than it looks." Also a good car to "park" in because of the room and hidden backseat area. The 4cyl manual transmission has juuuust enough oomph if you know how to massage it. Lots of trunk space too. Strong frame and/or bumpers; got rear ended at about 10mph and drove away unscathed ... no damage.

Weakness:

Breaks seem to be dying early. I've only 14K miles on my Venger, but I can tell the breaks are getting soft quickly. The stock alarm system is fussy; if you're standing next to a large metallic object you may need to lean over the car to get it to unlock. The weather-stripping on the driver side seems to be too forgiving; taking it into a touchless shop will get the interior washed also. The front bumper is quite low, it will be nearly impossible to avoid scuffing the underside.

I have enjoyed my Avenger for the most part. There were a few teething pains in the first three months however. The power-steering pump died after about 2K miles and required my best impersonation as Hercules to steer. The battery died at the first hint of Chicago cold weather too. But since then, it's behaved well with no repair trips (but it's only got 14K remember). It's a nice smooth ride and with an upgrade of the stereo, the interior provideds you with good acoustics. Again, the look of the car is quiet, but sporty at the same time ... very versatile. Not the most impressive car I've driven, but the best I've owned.

The car is fun, does well in corners, and has a nice deep tone

Weakness:

i wish there was a five speed..ive read every review possible and they all complain of brakes....im sure i will have to fix mine soon..but that is okay because i have fallen madly inlove with car....preformance is good from 3rd gear on.....i took a camro on the high way this afternoon..

i would recomend it for its saftey rating and it beauty..i being a 16 year old kid buying his own car am very satisfied....i will soon be lowering it with eibach spring....im going to get a strut tower bar, and and intake...hope fully one day i can get a different engine....maybe the eclipse gst engine with 210 horses
buy this car it is great....i wish it had the power for 1st and 2nd gears
it topped out at 130 before the computer kicked in...that was before any modifications....

Strength:

Looks great! Overall it has been fairly dependable. Plenty of room in front and back seats. Large trunk. Handles good.

Weakness:

It eats up brakes like you wouldn't believe. It also eats up tires. The tires it came with from the factory were garbage. They were Goodyears. All 4 were bald at 15,000 mi.
Head Gasket blew at around 20,000 mi. Warranty covered it and it was as good as new. No other problems until about 50,000 mi.
Then the AC had to be recharged, oxygen sensor went out (very expensive on this car), thermostat, heater hose, plugs, wires.
If you get the slightest bit of rain, you can't open the windows without getting wet. The windshield also fogs up all the time. Sometimes it is impossible to keep it clear. Very frustrating. both handles for the drivers seat adjustments broke in the first 2 years. Four cylinder is too slow.

The car has been generally dependable. Most of the problems occurred within a month of each other at 50,000 mi.
That was frustrating. It is a good looking car at a good value. You just have to put up with the little things.

Turns heads everywhere u go people always looking at it but in MD it seams like there is a lot of them around i never seen them around until i got one(get that) People always looking at it and people always asking me about it.

Weakness:

The transmision seams a little rough when you put it to the floor like there is something wrong with it but it seams like i am not the only person that noticed that. It could use some more power...

Over all the car is good but for someone that is only 19 the insurance is outrages for me so i am thinking about selling it but i would recomend it to anyone over all a excellent car to drive and own..

Strength:

Awesome headturning style (I think the Indy Red has something to do with that!). Great sounding, stock Infinity Stereo System (Not the "loudest", but one of the best "sounding"). Very roomy 2-door sports car, front and back! Very fast and tight on high speed turns.

Weakness:

I have 33,000+ miles on my Venge, and the rotors are starting to warp. Only one cup holder between the two front seats. Poor turning radious. My Durango had a tighter turning radious! A little noisy ride, but it's not noticable when you have the awesome sound system on. No manual option for the V6. The Stratus Coupe fixed this!!!

I traded my gas gazzler SUV (Durango) in for this car. I got some cash to boot from the dealer :) I knew the avenger wasn't going to hold value like the 4x4 SUV, but I would make it all up in gas expenses. No major repairs so far. I have some rotors to flatten out, but with 70+mph highway speeds, coupled with stop and go traffic, plus 4-wheel disc breaks, this isn't a major surprise.

I got a flat tire from a metal object and ruined the sidewall, so I had to replace one expensive Goodyear Eagle. For the best deal on these tires and others, check out http://www.etires.com. The tire cost $50 less then anywhere else locally!

Two Minnesota winters, and no problems with handling!

I just got rearended by some guy that seemed to have been smoking something:( I must say that the Avenger took it very well! The bumper got it's scratches and paint loss, but no cracks or major damage!

Another thing I like is the fact that everything is fairly easy to get to for self maintenance. Considering this is a mitsubishi hybrid and a V6, I was very surprised! I'm 6'-2" and I fit comfortably into this car which was the only car in it's class to meet this requirement.

I didn't put any comments about the V6 under strengths or weaknesses, because it doesn't fall under either of those. The V6 is nothing great, and it's nothing bad.

Overall: If you have one of the late models (98-00), Best car in it's class at a great price..., )!

Smart car to drive, seems to know where your going. Love the reactions from people, and the large amount of room. The leather is a nice touch.

Weakness:

Upgrades? What upgrades? Not the amount of power I thought. rotors warp all the time, and make sure you take a towel to dry the inside after the power wash... Scraping of the front on curbs.

I really like my car. It handles nice and makes me want to keep it clean just so when it's admired it looks good. Some things I have no problem living with.
