Strength:

Good room, fairly strong engine, wonderful looks, easy to maintain, fair fuel mileage, loud engine.

Weakness:

3-speed automatic, not enough storage space, "niggles" add up, weak a/c subsystem, frameless window design, loud engine.

This was my first new-ish car, bought back in 96 when it was nearly 2 years old (early 94 build.) The car served me very well for the four years I owned it, but in the past year the little things - the niggles - started mounting. The a/c compressor died, the gas tank float assembly died, the upstream O2 sensor died, the downstream O2 sensor died, and the head gasket started its infamous leak (but never left this world). The frameless window design was distinctive but poorly executed: I could never have the windows open when it rained, for my interior and left leg would get a nice shower.

Gas mileage was never impressive, simply good.

But, all that said, at $10k it was a good value: it ran well overall, and I have yet to drive a $10k car that handled so well at 117mph. :)

Strength:

Great gas mileage (35-40mpg), easy maintenance, easy to handle, reliable, sporty and cute. Plenty of room for my son who is 6'5", 265lbs. Lots of acceleration. Always start in the winter, even when they have been sitting outdoors in a dormitory parking lot for 2 weeks in below zero temps. Heat and AC are strong and quick.

Weakness:

Front seats are a little low for long trips and getting in and out of the cars. All needed head gaskets which were totally covered by Chrysler with no hastles whatsoever.

I purchased each of these cars as rental returns for my children when they became seniors in high school. Paid $9500 each and the local dealer went through them and brought them all up to snuff. Other than the head gaskts (mentioned above) the only problems have been brake pads at 68,000 in one, tires at 55,000 for all, one battery, one AC seal ($35 including coolant), and a cruise control repair in one (not an ethical dealer). Considering they are all being driven by teenagers in high school and college, they are the best cars I have ever owned. I would strongly recommend them for anyone looking for economical and reliable transportation for themselves or their children.

Strength:

Cargo room is ok, seat confort is ok as well and it's little spacios inside but you can't put too much things in it coz it'll break down and leave you in the middle of the street ( never happened to me at least not yet ). A fairly ok car if its used only under normal situation.

Weakness:

Brake performance! too noisy everytime I brake, the moffler just sucksss! the rear part is a little way up comparing it to the front part so it makes it difficult to see behind ya ( if applicabe when no using rear mirror )poor acceleration if its 3 automatic speed, uneven shocks as time goes on and many more. Dashboard too plain no style at all!

When my dad bought me this second hand car, I thought it was ok comparing it to the ford focus as a second choice. At that time I didn't know much about car and I thought this car was like a sporty one because dodge also make the viper... however when times goes on, I'm starting to like car stuff on how to souped it up and car stereos as well and nowadays I can consider myself a true avid knowledgeable person in those two topics. Im planning to sell this car pretty soon meanwhile I have done some modifications to it so it looks nice and performe good as well. I've added an aftermarket exhaust system, hooked up a $ 800 dollars in kicker car stereo system, hyper white fog lights and high beans, sticker all around, sport seats covers, air freshener in each compartment, neon tube in front makes it looks really look and others. As far as the car itself it really sucks as a whole, the engine is too tight you can barely insert a finger in it, I was trying to install a intake but my personal mechanic told me it wont work on this car which really sucks ! And that's the bottom line. I'm planning to buy a Honda Accord, prelude, acura integra, grand prix, or firebord or sunfire, those are my questions I can afford right now. Later on why not a viper ?

A fair bit of pep
Nice Cruise Control

Weakness:

Strange grind after starting car. Dealer says nothing.
Eats gas like crazy.

Paid $23,000 Cdn. tax inc. First owned car.

I would never ever ever inflict this on someone. Me and a friend were moving and he had a Dodge 2000 Caravan. I had to keep on refilling. Burned TWICE THE GAS AS A MINIVAN!

I now have 14,000 km on a 3 month old car. I got it for trying to save on gas, but it's really not working out that way.

Model Reviewed: Dodge Neon Highline

Strength:

**Very affordable
**GREAT GAS MILEAGE (I get about 46 miles per gallon!)
**Small and can go anywhere
**Keeps up with traffic
**Decent clutch
**Heat works VERY WELL AND VERY FAST, same with A/C & defrost (front/rear)

Weakness:

**Window rattles, however I hardly notice
**Bad blind spot, I've gotten used to it
**Getting into reverse is sometimes a problem
**Aerodynamics are bad, I've had 2 cigarettes land in my backseat and burn a horrific hole, be CAREFUL!!!!
**A/C slows down car a bit, I hardly use it so that's not a problem!
**Handling above 7o mph gets a little rough
**I have heard that crash tests are not so positive, however I know nothing in that department, but it is something important to consider. However, for this price range, all vehicles will have similar (poor) crash ratings, I suppose.

I feel I got a really good deal on my car. As I have said, I paid ~$56oo for my car, with 37,ooo miles on it. I have 58,ooo miles on it now (it has been a little over a year) and I have invested ~3oo$ for repair. I needed a new battery, and something called an oxidizer (whatever that is!). I am a college student, and my car is fun to drive, reliable, and WORTH THE PRICE!!

My father owns a 2ooo Neon, I like my 1995 Highline much better. It is more comforable and gets about 1o more miles per gallon than the 2ooo model. The seats in the 1995 are more comfortable, and the transmission and clutch are easier to use. My first vehicle was a 1984 Chevy truck, with 3oo,ooo miles on it at termination. That truck was unreliable, guzzled gas, had no A/C, and even leaked everything under the sun including gas... my neon is incredibly better. I also had a 1992 Mustang Convertable. It was sheer performance, but I would choose my Neon over it any day because of the gas mileage, acceleration, reliability and IT IS FUN TO DRIVE. I guess that sounds weird, but I live in a high crime area, and feel safe leaving my Neon outside.

Strength:

HOLY COW!!! This car is by far the fastest car under $20,000! It accelerates from 0-60 in under 6 secs! The styling is very very sporty. I LOVE this car. It gets jealous looks everywhere I go. The interior is very cool looking. Lots of room for friends. Mark my words this car blows away anything you dare throw at it. It has a supercharged 208hp engine on a car that weighs nothing! The stereo completly rocks! Two 12inch subs are amazing.

Weakness:

Not one thing to complain about. Just don't park anywhere near my baby!

I was lucky to be one of the first people to get a Dodge Neon SRT 2000 it (with connections of course). It is incredible what this car can do. I love everthing from the looks, awesome speed, good handling, good braking, and lots of room inside. If you have never seen a SRT before go to 4adodge.com and see for yourself. You won't believe your eyes. I paid $19,500 for it and it is worth every penny. I would give it 6 stars if possible. DODGE RULES

Strength:

The Car has very good handeling specially with the stiffer body. The low end torque is also very good, the seat and interior are very well done and everything is easy to access and use. The 5 speed manual is very easy to shift and smooth.

Weakness:

The tires are very cheap, a new set will be very helpfull, the road noise is high, it doesn't bother me personally. Rear visibility is poor specially when you are on reverse.

I paid 20,000$ Canadian money, For a small car I beleive it's the best on the market. A lot faster than a stock civic and also a lot nicer. The car is not really appealing to a younger generation but you should see the look with 17 inches rims on it.

Similar Products Used:

1997 dodge neon, the gear ratio is very different from both car, 2nd gear is a lot longer on the 2000 neon and 5th gear also. It's a lot easier to get the car to top speed than it was with the 1997. Seats are higher than the 1997, I don't really like it but I got use to it. The road noise has gone down considerably from the previous version.

Strength:

Performance is on par of more expensive cars. Handling is smile inducing. And its "cute".

Weakness:

Reputation the marque has overall

MSRP was $15395 with current rebates + taxes and all juicy stuff, rolled ou the door for $14.6K. I was completely satisfied with my purchase. I wish dealers woudl show little more respect for these econoboxes. "It's just a neon" is not a attitude that rolls well with me. This is afterall my 1st car and impression that dealer left me with is that i SHOULD NOT buy another car there.
