Strength:

I have driven this car for a little over a year. Ive put 30,000 miles on it and still haven't had to take it to the shop for anything. It has 39,000 miles on it. I love its power. My friends can't believe how fast it gets going and how well it handles. People complain about the engine noise but I enjoy it. The six speaker stereo can really blast. Gas mileage is good considering the fact that I have to rev the engine a little every now and then. It is very roomy and comfortable. I get about 33 mpg in town. The interior styling is eye pleasing and easy to keep clean. It's a great car.

Weakness:

My only complaint is that the A/C takes too much power from the engine. And of course I'm going to have to replace the driver's side c/v joint soon.

I bought my neon used. It had 14,000 miles on it. I paid 10,500 in December 1999. I would recommend that anyone who wants a cheap small car to buy a neon. They look and run good, and there are several upgrades you can do to its performance. They are reliable and can get you home with a foot of snow on the road. And I'm not talking about a flat road.

Strength:

Lots of room in the front although I personally would not ride in the back. Lots of power, compaired to others in its class/price range. It's not often that a four door sedan can beat Integras and stock Mustangs.

Weakness:

Aftermarket parts, well lack of performance parts. most people have said that it's due to the new style and how new the car is. All in all there are no real drawbacks.

I would really recomend a Neon to anybody. However I really think that the ES is well worth the extra cash. you get some really cool upgrades like the wheels and the white face gauges. The only thing that I would have liked to get but didn't is four wheel disc brakes, I didn't get them because I didn't want ABS and it was a $1,000 option. little bit too much. I paid 15,800. I have everything there is to get for it optional wheels, bike rack, snowboard rack, tinted power windows, power locks, cd changer, rear spoiler, upgraded to MOMO shifter, plasma headlights, full synthetic fulids ie motor oil.

I haven't used similar cars but my friend has a 99 Integra GSR and I can beat it all of the time. I have also raced Honda Civic's and have been beat once by a Civic SI. Not bad when you compare the prices. However the Acura Integra GSR is a whole lot nicer on the inside and more sport car like. I believe he paid over 18,000 for the Acura.

Strength:

Thats hard to say, nearly everything about the car is pretty darned good, so its hard to come up with something that shines above the rest.. I would have to say my all disc ABS is very good. Impressive stops in even wet weather. Large windsheild is also nice, sort of nessasary with cab-forward though. Adequate power(unlike some of its competition). 5 speed transmission is very nice, also geared pretty high so you can cruise at high speeds easily-also proabably due to aerodynamic design of car too. Stock 6-speaker system very good. White gauges are nice to look at. Handling is quick and precise.

Weakness:

Sometimes, and I don't know exactly why yet, if I get out of the car after driving it, and touch the ouside of the door with my bare hand IT FRIGGIN SHOCKS ME! Not real powerfull, but it can be annoying as hell.
Too much body lean with softer shocks, the car corners very well(.80skidpad) already due to the standard anti-roll bars, but with less wheel travel and stiffer shocks it would be even better.

First of all, I wanted to get the 2000 Neon with some specific features, I didnt have the money for a full-blown ES model, but I at least wanted the 5 speed, A/C and the ABS/Tractioncontrol/4waydisc/tacometer package. Priced out this totaled 14500 without any taxes or licensing. I went to a few dealers, and I had already done extensive research on the car, and I already knew exactly what I wanted of course. When I asked for what I wanted the dealer kind of looked at me stupid...saying: "well, you can either get a 5 speed with no ABS, or the ES 3speed WITH ABS, since the ABS is really supposed to be for the automatic since you cant slow down as well with an automatic". I knew this guy was talking out his-ass. What he wanted me to do was buy a car off his lot, not order one. When I asked what ordering one would entail, he tried to tell me it would be much more expensive and he didnt even know if it could be done. To make matters worse, there was a $3000 "dealer markup" on the car, no explaination, just "sheer profit" i guess. He tried to pressure me asking; " well, I took off this dealer markup, would you buy this car today?"(which was not even the car I wanted). What really seemed to piss the dealer off was the fact that I had done my homework and I KNEW a lot about the car. When he said that the "dealer markup" was for their profit, i informed him that dealer profit was already included in the invoice(which it is), he sort of slipped up and agreed with me for a second.

SOOOOO, I went to my credit union, they negotiate the price of new and used cars with dealers. I told em what I wanted, dark blue 2000 neon, 5 speed, A/C, ABS/Trc/disc/tach package, and they started negotiating. It took em 2 days, and they found the car I wanted for 12995, which is about $1500 off the sticker price, and almost $5000 less than what the dealer wanted to charge for the same car. I got a sweet deal, a 7yr warrenty from my credit union, and a good intrest rate.

Bottom line is the dodge dealers that I went to in Sacramento SUCKED! Use your credit union or something.

Its a great car, I cant find any real faults with it, my large DH mountain bike even fits in the trunk with the seats folded down, and that is pretty impressive.

I was pretty much looking at the cars in the 11-14,000 pricerange. Ford of course had their Focus, but when comparing with the neon, the Ford came up short on wheelbase and width, it also was not quite as powerfull and slightly more expensive. The Honda's started out pretty cheap, but those low end Civics only come with miserable 100hp engines, and when you start priceing them out for the 130(or whatever)hp engine, they got quite expensive. The nearest car that I could find to the Neon in terms of ineterior space, overall space, and engine power, was the Toyota Corolla VE. It was very similer in price and features, so it was a hard call. Probably the only real deciding factor was that I had drivin a friends 98 Dodge neon quite a few times, and I liked how it handled.

Strength:

VERY SAFE, good gas mileage

Weakness:

went through a lot of belts, brakes squealed a lot, high insurance, spoiler made it hard to see out the back (i'm short)

I would recommend this car to any parent buying a first car for their teenager. It is very safe. Two days ago, I lost control of it, hit a tree, and flipped it, and walked away without a scratch due to its safety features. Unfortunately, those same safety features make it hard to repair in a crash, and therefore give it a high insurance rate. It was a good little car, and I miss it!

Lots of strange noise... , no matter in starting the car, braking or anything... although there has not been any reliability issue... all these wierd noise make you wonder whether the car is going to break down the next morning. Resale value is really bad.

C$18000. No, unless if you are leasing it for 3 years. It is a fun car to have for the first 3 years before the problems show up.

Strength:

-Very Good on fuel
-Handles excellent in slush and snow
-Plenty of Power
-Very quite and comfortable hardly any outside noise

Weakness:

-Hard to find windshield wipers that fit the windshield properly
-Windows scrath easily because of soft glass used for safety reasons.
(hey i had to put something)

I would recommend buying this car over any Ford, Chev, or VW. It is a far better car than anything out there. I would recommend a Cavalier owner to try out a Neon. You will see big differences between the two.

Strength:

-Good price
-Unique styling
-Roomy interior for a small car
-Good sound system (6 speakers CD)especially for a factory
system.
-Nice acceleration for 4 cylinder 132hp.

Weakness:

-Noisy, especially wind noise at high speeds
-Cheap interior parts such as nobs, turn signals, etc...
-Gas mileage not as good as I expected for a small car
-Several repairs and recalls required.
-Has some blind spots because of design (example high back end)
-Cheap body frame, bumpers, etc...

I got a great deal (about 1/2 price, $7200)in 1996 because I worked for the company, Chrysler. Bought it used with 30,000 miles on it. I've owned the car for 3 going on 4 years and I've gotten my money's worth out of it.

It now has about 75000 miles on it, and I've taken several long trips with it. I've been in two minor accidents. I've had several repairs (new brake pads, clogged exhaust that caused the door alarm to sound at any moment, plugs replaced twice, new battery. I've had one recall (something about the steering column), and one replacement of the power control module (Car would occasionally stall and cut off) while under warrenty. The car currently leaks oil, probably due to head gasket, and has an occasional rattling sound when taking right turns.

Besides the nagging repairs and recalls, I am overall satified with the car for what it's worth and the money I paid for it. I would recommend this car to young students (high school or college) and people looking for a second car to commute back and forth to work.

Ummm, I don't worry about totalling it and I can drive accordingly. Cops don't target them for speeding. It is pretty roomy. cheap.

Weakness:

have found gas mileage worse than expected, with that there is the tiny tank, Handling, the parking brake sucks, battery problems, Bad ventilation, uncomfortable, the windows don't seal correctly and are noisy, car rattles badly at 80 + mph. NOT FOR PEOPLE LOOKING FOR PERFORMANCE!!!

Kill me, this was my first car, I got at when I turned 16. I want a performance car, not a neon. The only upside is that I've never gotten a ticket and I figure the neons "look I was purchased at Toys R Us" apperance is one cause of this. I've really had to many problems with this stupid car. The vents are woefully inadequate to defrost in winter. The most annoying problem would be the windows. They don't seal right when the doors are closed or once they are rolled up again. To fix it you have to roll them down and back up. That's all I'm gonna write, if this type of car is your bag (if you are lookin at Escorts, Geo metro's, others in this category) the neon is probably the best. But I'd recommend getting a used nicer model for the same price.

With a few performance upgrades, this car can really haul some @ss. I recomend this car to young kids looking for an inexpensive, speedy little car.

Weakness:

CD changer too low, but better than the trunk. Can't reach the truck while stopped at a light.
Engine noise can bother some people,( hey what are stereos for and this one great.)

I paid 15,260 for fully loaded 2000 ES w/ every option they
have. Its a good car, great for its class. When it comes to value for a dollar it would be real hard to beat.I recommend this car for those interested in this market. Mine is bright silver w/ 15 inch. alluminum wheels and wrap around tints, with the mopar bra. Looks good , rides good.
I would recommend this car. May not suit all people though. It definitely should be taken for test drive. at least.
