Strength:

gas mileage, reliability, availability of junk yard parts, cheap to maintain. Sound systems are easy to install and it makes a heck of an SPL vehicle!

Weakness:

It's not a race car! Remember that and it's all good.

For a commuter car this thing rocks! I bought it with 156,000 miles on it and expected to drive it maybe a year before sending it to crushed car heaven. Nope. This thing is like the Energizer Bunny of purple cars.. it just keeps going and going. Odometer currently reads 216,000 miles. Basically all I've done to this car is normal maintainence. Did anyone know this car has roller rockers and a windage tray-- standard from the factory! What does this mean? It means the car was mean to deliver maximum mpg and last virtually forever. With 216,000 miles on it I'm still getting 38 mpg driving 75mph on the highway, and that include hills. It is using only one quart of oil between changes, and I'm sure most of that is the leaking front seal. The front bearings need replacing too, but that's it. You can't go wrong with this car.

Rain...not good for this car...and the wind blows it around

This car is the best. Its small but fast. You can go anywhere with it and you get great gas milage. Its good in the winte but you have to know how to handle it. Ive had mine for about 2 years and ive never had a problem with it.

Strength:

Roomy on the inside, great mileage, small so it fits anywhere, Cheap, can fit an amazing amount stuff if you haul equipment or are moving.

Weakness:

It's light so it gets blown around on the road, but when you need it to go fast I have topped mine at over 100mph. You won't get respect on the road because it looks like a slow car. Oh and it's made of plastic which means cheap to fix but it gets bruised a lot.

At first I hated this car, I mean have you seen this car, its ugly and mine was pink, but it got excellent gas mileage and was in my price range. I mean $2000 for a car! Now I have been driving it for 4 years and find that because it's a standard you can downshift and get enough vroom to get places and pass most midsized automatics and it's small enough to squeeze in between the cars that go faster. Oh the size is a big plus. Its tiny on the outside so it can park anywhere, but its high roof leaves plenty of room for my long legs (I'm almost 6'). On the whole I won't give up my cheap aspire until I can afford a sports car, and with a price tag as low as mine was I get to save my money for my new BMW. I would recomend putting in a better stereo and getting a cool paint job though. And with the hatch back, I can fit an unimagineable amount of equipment in this seemingly small car. I've won a lot of bets this way to help me on my path to my BMW.

with tuning, awesome accelleration and turning.

Weakness:

top speed(with tuning it reaches 119)

besides my pervious 1986 Nissan 4x4, this is the best vehicle I've ever owned. I do ahefty load of driving, roughly 145 mi daily, and it holds up with no hitches. I get approx 53 mi/gallon doing 60mph. I've done some work such as a new paint job, rear spoiler, alloy rims, tinting windows, racing decals, ground effects, interior work, short shifter, APC racing exhaust, sparco seats, racing pedals, 2000 watt sterio system and more and the littel 1.3 loves it. I street race once or twice weekly, and it surprises me every time, I've flown by cavaliers, civice, accords, sc1's and even some small 6 cyl. I've never had to put a drop of needed work into it, and have put over 45,000 miles on it in less than 5 months, I'd have to say this is a damn nice car for the money.

My grandparents bought this car for me and it was a piece of crap at first but ifyou take care of it and add a few things maybe it can work for you. Mine is red and has white ford hubcaps with a black wing on the hatch. Also it has more power than most aspire's because it was in a wreck before i bought it and they did an engine swap. So really i think all it needs is an engine swap. Now shifting is easier and people get the **** out of my way. Oh yeah i got the brightest light bulbs legal.

Strength:

The fuel economy is decent in summer but drops significantly in winter time. This is a roomy vehicle and let's face it, the price tag is good.

Weakness:

If you're looking for a good winter car, forget it. This has to be the worst winter car ever. The lock mechanisms freeze so I've broken several keyes in the door lock. When you can unlock the vehicle, the door gaskets are frozen solid to the car. I've had to crawl into the car through the hatchback more times than I care to remember (my neighbours have breakfast by the window when the weather drops below 20C just to get a laugh). On really cold days (-35C) the transmission won't shift into second. I've had to drive 20km in first gear before I ever got into second. It has small narrow tires, a small wheel base and is iffy on icy or snow covered surfaces. Don't let anyone you care for drive it in winter conditions. Minor things: exhaust heat shield rotted away, impossible-to-get-rif-of shimmy in front end, heating console levers that won't stay put.

A good commuter car, fairly reliable. The lack of power has actually been a positive thing for me. Even when I drive my real car (Camry) I no longer tailgate, pass or accelerate quickly (all things that are either impossible or unsafe to try in an Aspire).

Engine Light problems -- recommend getting rid of it before 85000 miles

This car was great until recently when we got it it had about 20000 miles on it. We changed the oil every 3000 miles and did all the minor tunes ups and maintance checks. Now that the car has 90000 miles on it the engine light has come on and the dealerships cannot seem to tell us which part is the cause of the engine light being on. They tell us it could be one of seven different parts and the only way to find out is to replace all the parts. Which we will not be doing. We are now getting rid of it before something else goes wrong.

My Aspire has "Z Racing" rims. It also has good turning ability.

Weakness:

ACCELERATION, Has problems shifting, lightweight, going up hills.

WOW. What can I say a about the "Assfire"? Buying this car has been my #1 biggest mistake in life so far. Well, for short commute, the car has everything you need. I haven't been pulled over by a cop for speeding in this car yet, partly because it has a hard time breaking the speed limit. With accelerating, you're better off riding a bike. I have 60,000 miles on the beast, and my gas mileage has been going downhill. I can't wait to get rid of this car. I just hope someone will be as stupid as I was and buy it from me.

Strength:

Economical, comfortable seating, all gauges easily visible and 360 degree visiblity when driving. Very reliable vehicle.

Weakness:

It could use another gear in the automatic transmission as the engine is spinning 3000+ RPM's at freeway speed.

I have read all the horror stories about the Ford Aspire and mostly have to believe that most peoples problems with the Aspire is the lack of basic maintenance. My Aspire performs perfectly every day. The only time it has ever even had a hiccup was with a tank of gas that had some water in it. Can't hardly blame that on the car. It has some road noise but that is to be expected with a 2000 pound car. I find it to be a very functional and serviceable vehicle. I commute 56 miles a day in it and get 32+ miles per gallon and it never has used any oil. It has a lot of leg and head room, I am 6 foot tall and really rather like the car.
