Strength:

good gas mileage
runs good

Weakness:

It's a ford.

I got the car from my parents and it had 95,512 miles on the car and yea it's a ford....so what...all cars are crap...all cars have their problems. The car runs great and does not give me any problems. Since I've had the car, I only had to replace the cat. converter, new front rotors, and the other basic crap. I've had the car for over a year now, and it has 111,700 miles on it.

Strength:

- The gas mileage is good. I am able to drive about 200 miles on the highway with only ½ a tank.
- There’s plenty of room in the interior and in the trunk.
- Visibility from the driver seat is good. Easy to drive in reverse.
- Reliable. I’ve been able to trust it to not break down while driving.
- Only had to take it in for 3 major repairs over the years, each costing about $500-600.
- Great pick up. Sometimes the acceleration lags (started when it got past 60k or so), but for the most part, it’s good.
- Pretty good at driving in rain and snow conditions.

Weakness:

- In 2004 (with about 50-60k miles), there was a problem with the cat converter unit, which was about $600 to repair.
- In 2006 (about 75k miles), the battery light starting flickering on and off. Over a period of about a month, the light became more constant. The repair that got that fixed was about $600.
- Earlier this year (about 85k miles), the brake light at first flickered on and off, and became constant the next day. The repair for the rear brakes cost about $500 to repair.
- The electrical system allowing the passengers to control the windows never really worked, even with the child safety lock off.
- The passenger cup holder for the car is not adequate for drinks at least 12 oz. from fast food restaurants.

My parents originally bought me this car used after 1 year. I love this car. I’ve had this car for 8 years and haven’t had too many problems with it. It has never left me stranded anywhere on the road. I would buy another Contour, but Ford no longer makes them, so I need to consider a new model. The car is great, but starting around 75k, it’s starting to show its age, so I am planning to buy a new car within the next 1-2 years.

Strength:

Handling, power, fun to drive. Decent gas mileage. Reliability, provided that you are diligent in maintenance.

Weakness:

Everybody thinks it's a crap car. Joke's on them in my case! Plus it's free because it is a company vehicle.

I Love this car! Purchased new and WELL MAINTAINED... Has your contour been well maintained? 271,000 miles and not a single problem besides replacing the alternator once at 240,000 miles. It's still on its original clutch, which is unheard of in my book. A great little car to get around in and not hate every minute of driving it.

none as far as I can tell

Weakness:

spark plugs always go
transmission
ABS light comes on and blows out the heat whenever you go into a slide!
Fuses always need replacing
everything sucks in this car and parts are always expensive and hard to come by!

Well lets just say if I can save one more person from making the mistake of buying this car then I'm happy! I had my car 3 days when I went to pull out of the driveway and it would not reverse! I had it towed back to the dealership where I got it and was told it was the computer chip that tells the car when to reverse etc...they said it was not covered under my warranty and it would be $800!! I have constantly had to replace spark plugs since purchasing this car. I have had to replace tha transmission which cost close to $3000!! this week I replaced the altenator! there is a clunky noise in my front passenger side tire now...that'll be next!
also right now my winshield washer fluid isn't working, I thought it was froze up but turns out I will pprobablly need a new motor for it...and my sun roof will open but not close so I haven't been using that in summer....the car is a money racket I hate it sooo much!!!!

I thought to myself as I was driving down the freeway im my 98 Ford Contour after I had just bought it, this is a good little car! No sooner did I say that the trans start sliping and I felt like I was being bucked of a horse! I've only had the car for 3 day's. I hate it. I have myself to blam thou. it's got 208,000mi, it. I only paid 800. That go's to show, you get what you pay for! I am makin payments on a 2000 neon right now. I just hope this car can hang on for at least one more month!
I don't get it I used to have a a 92 ford Tempo and I drove the hell out of that for for 3 years and I only had to replace the starter.

Strength:

The automatic transmission never gave me any trouble
The car had plenty of room and decent styling

Weakness:

Reliability overall
Fuel economy(in comparison to its class)
Power(I know it wasn't meant to be a race car, but the acceleration needed for city driving just isn't there)
Brakes
Electrical system

This car was horrible. I'm really shocked that anyone gave this car a good review(even though not many did). Mine had the 2.0 4 cylinder and was hooked to an automatic. When I bought it, it had only 44k miles. I gave up on it at 98k. In those 54k miles(all under 100k!)that I owned it, these are the problems I had. I had the timing belt break twice(it bent the valves once(at 98k miles)). I had to have a valve job done at about 60k miles. I had to replace a motor mount, the water pump, belt tensioner, fuel pump, and fuel filter. This is not including the extra things I did to keep it in proper condition, such as replacing the spark plugs and wires, brake work, and etc. The power rating seemed very overrated. The fuel economy was not even close to what the manufacturer had tagged it. The brakes were not impressive to say the least. Also, I had many electrical glitches...and often. My engine temperature gauge functioned incorrectly. Once again, all of this happened under 100k miles. I have always tried to buy american, and I religiously follow the recommended maintenance schedules. I gave up on ford and got myself a toyota. I don't have the time, money, or patience to be broken down on the side of the road any more.

Strength:

Good on gas.

Weakness:

I feel as if I Purchased a LEMON.

Fuel pump problems. The dash is coming loose. Keep in mind the dealer has replaced this dash one time. The electric windows on the driver and passenger are broken. The transmission is slipping. Now the air conditioner has quit. The passenger side entry lock doesn't work. The front and rear driver side speakers don't work. This car has 130,000 miles, but I have not abused this car.
