i traded in my fun celica for a simple practical bigger car the FOUCUS i was very excited until i got pulled over by a state trooper telling me my tail lights were out and my turn signal wasnt working..well i was furious...got it fixed still not working properly..oh and mind you i have only had it for 5 months now...as im driving home from work my transmission light pops up and my overdrive light is flashing and the entire car is jerking forward as i LIGHTLY tap on the breaks..well when i called the dealership the woman was so rude told me i could drop it off and "maybe" they could get to it meanwhile i have no other car to drive...she even had the nerve to ask me if i turned to overdrive button on "by mistake" i hate to admit this but it took my dad to call and talk to the owner of the dealership for them to see the car..i am 100% disapointed in this car...and the dealership.

Strength:

Dependable, handles well and gives excellent mileage.Has a lot of features that I like in a car. Lots of cargo space.

Weakness:

I can't figure out how to operate clock.

I am very satified with the car, it gives great gas mileage and has quick response. Couldn't be happier only thing is some jerk backed into it. However it is a handsome car.

Strength:

Responsive engine and handling. Fuel economy is better than most. Clean, practical interior.

Weakness:

Base level sound system has terrible speakers, you get what you pay for.

So I have had this car for a few weeks now, and bought it because the price was right. I used to have a Ford Escort GT years ago, and between then and now, I have owned a 1998 Olds Cutlass. Now this little Ford is NOT what I wanted, but I have grown to love it each time I drive it. The handling is sharp and crisp, (we'll see if it softens up when there are more miles on it), the interior is basic, yet practical. The 5-speed manual is pretty forgiving and has long throws, but is more than acceptable for this type of car. The clutch pedal requires a lot of movement to engage, but this is not a sports car afterall. The little engine offers spunk and the ride quality makes it easy to pass the speedlimit and keep on going. The gas mileage is a little less than promised on the sticker, as it often is when you break in a new engine. Braking preformance seems well balanced, although I have not needed to stand on the pedal yet. All in all, it is a good little car that is fun to drive with few nuances that I have encountered yet!

Comfort, fun to drive, cute

Weakness:

Not the best gas mileage for this size of a car. Poor pep from the engine.

I got my Focus brand new in 2003. It is an attractive little car. It has had a few problems, once I was stranded by the car on the way to work. At the time it had about 30k miles on it. Another time the ignition went. Both were covered under warranty and taken care of quickly by a very polite service staff. It now has 48k miles, has been to both coasts of the United States, as well as to Texas and Illinois, and all the places in between. I love my little car.

It gets me where I need to go. It's comfortable, drives well, has great feel. The pickup could be better, I wish I'd gone with a manual transmission. Other than that, I like the car and would reccomend it for those people not wanting a Japanese car (b/c of the discomfort or because they are patriotic and want to support American companies). I would buy another Ford.

Strength:

Economical with very good MPG. Great handling and acceleration.

Weakness:

When fueling the car, the gasoline backs up and shoots out the gas tank spout! You have to gently squeeze the gas handle to slowly feed the gas into the car. This is a REAL hassle and was very unexpected!

This is a fun car to drive! It is comfortable and has plenty of head and shoulder room for a compact.

It's still running

Weakness:

I just wish I would have bought a different car for the money I spent. If I had paid $7000-8000 it wouldn't have been so stressful for me. Not worth $16,000 to me.

I would like the car, although the doors are very hard to open, the paint started peeling off at 2.5 yrs old and looks pretty bad, now. My front springs were defected which I was told could have caused a fatal accident. There have been so many recalls that I haven't been able to get to the garage without missing work. I don't have another vehicle.

Turn signal endicator is loud, if that is a bad thing.

I have only owned my Focus for a couple of weeks, but I can tell you I completely satisfied with my decision. I filled up my tank with 12 gallons of gas and drove and drove...361 miles to be exact. The enterior is a lot nicer than I had expected for a compact car. The seats are very comfortable and I have plenty of head room(I'm 6'5"). I bought this car for my wife but find myself driving it every time I can get ahold of the keys. It's got plenty of power, expecially comming from a 2.0 four cylinder. I think Ford had really nailed the slogan for this one, "It Begs to be Driven."

Overall very nice car. I bought as a cheap commuter car and have been surprised by how nice this car is. It has good power for a car in its class, handles very well, gets pretty good gas mileage, average 28-30 MPG. I have had about 7 months and have put 12,000 miles on it already and so far have had no problems. I would recommend a Focus to anyone who is in the market for a small car. I test drove almost every small car on the market and the Focus was equal to or better than any of them and came at a better price.

Strength:

Excellent handling, 28 MPG avg, decent acceleration, smooth auto transmission, great headlights/foglights, super audio for a basic radio/cd player, good headroom/legroom for a compact, fun to drive, relatively quiet interior, acceptable engine noise

Weakness:

No standard ABS/Traction Control, No standard side airbags, Interior is a little cheap but not bad, funky wiper controls take a while to get used to, no rear head rests(safety), black plastics exterior door handles, no heat shield on underside of hood, rear wheel wells have a weird carpet-like material - hard plastic is easier to clean

I drove several of the new model compacts - 2006 Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Suzuki Forenza, and the Focus was more comfortable and more fun to drive. Armstrong Ford let me take the car all weekend to test drive, which is 47.5 more hours than I got with all of the other dealers. I knew going in that I would be giving up many creature comforts when buying a compact. It's not a luxury car so I am not going to gripe about roominess, ride comfort, or lack of power seats, or plush interior although the Focus does well in most of these categories. I bought the car to commute to work (35 miles/day), save gas, and keep the miles off of my full size pickup so I can live with the weaknesses I listed. The Focus has excellent road manners. The handling, ride, wind and road noise was on par with my wife's 2004 Honda Accord EX - believe it or not. There is a little body roll when taking curves but not so much that it is a concern. The steering is very responsive and there is good feedback through the steering wheel. The brakes do a good job even with drums in the rear but I imagine 4 wheel discs would be great. Highway driving at speeds above 55 MPH is a real pleasure. The car tracks straight and the engine doesn't seem too hurried up to 70 MPH. The auto transmission shifts very smoothly and changes gears efficiently when needed to maintain speed. The radio, heater, and a/c controls are all within easy reach with good visibility. The cruise control works very well and is conveniently located on the steering wheel. The low beam headlights work great with the foglights and really brighten things up when used together. The interior is very stylish but the materials are probably not the best on the planet. Most of it is hard plastic with two different colors of grey and black. The seats are reasonably comfortable but I can't see myself making a cross country run in this car. The rear seats do not have head restraints which could be a safety concern for adults riding in back during a rear end collision. The power windows operate smoothly and the driver's side window has a one touch down feature. The power door locks work well but they make a pretty loud thunk when they are activated. I first thought the door latches were faulty but I found out with experience that the doors seal so well that it takes just a little more force to latch the doors. As for reliability, I haven't owned the car long enough to report. The 2006 Focus comes with a 3 yr/36000 mile bumper to bumper warranty and a 5/100,000 powertrain warranty. A 5 yr/100,000 bumper to bumper can be purchased from Ford at the time of purchase. Consumer Reports has given the Focus above average reliability ratings for the past three years. The first three years ('00~'02)the Focus had major mechanical problems. I believe they have worked the bugs out. Depreciation is most likely higher than the Civic or Corolla but I tend to keep vehicles at least ten years so they are not worth much anyway. I would highly recommend this vehicle to someone looking for a commuter vehicle/weekend errand runner at a fair price with features above entry-level. I would not recommend this vehicle as a primary family vehicle since it is so small. Buy a used Accord or Camry for that.
