ride handling & comfort

Weakness:

dissapointed in fuel consumption, tranny leak

In November of 04, we purchased an 01 Taurus with 56,000 miles. It appeared to be a very clean car. 3 days after we bought it, we discovered a tranny leak. The tranny had to be replaced. 3 months later we traded for an 04 Taurus ( 15,500 miles ) Shortly thereafter the power steering pump, and the catylitic converter both needed replacing. (converter was rattling ) A month later it started rattling again. Ford said this was normal. A year later at 25,500 miles the tranny started leaking. Needless to say, we no longer own a Ford. What are the chances of owning 2 Taurus's with tranny leaks. Its a shame because I really like the styling of the Taurus, and they are reasonably priced, but they should hold up better than this.

Looks nice. Comfortable interior. It usually gets me to work and back.

Weakness:

**What, there's more?!** Weak acceleration. Noise from front wheels that sounds like the wheels are going to fall off on bumpy roads (I live in the country). Trunk lets rain in--mold!

I hate this car with a passion. I bought it in 2002 with 21k miles. By 35k, I had to replace a sensor to the tune of several hundred dollars. This summer the tranny went out for $1500. Two months ago an injector was leaking for another $350. And this week the fan switch decided to stop working...can't wait to see that bill the day before x-mas. I have put over $2000 worth of repairs into this car in 3 years(not including regular maintenance and tires). For that price I could have had the thing paid off! I haven't had to put that kind of money into my civic or my altima combined (over a 13 year period). Thanks to this car I will never buy another Ford again and will have to think hard about buying any american car. I'd love to support American-made products but a car is too much of an investment and the US can't seem to get it right. Cheers to Japan.

Could store many items with seats down, fuel economy, pretty comfortable for long distances

Weakness:

Resale totally sucks for this car-- I sold it in 2005 for $800. Electrical issues (door lights not shutting off, engine mysteriously revving to 3000 RPM when in park, all exterior lights shorting out due to faulty multi-function switch on steering column, etc.) and mechanical issues (Replaced tie-end rods, back calipers/rotors, front rotors, Fuel Pump, transmission cooling line breaking, engine oil leak repaired twice) make me think twice over the quality of this car. 3.0 V6 is barely adequate for passing power, and with the A/C on it will remind you of driving a Geo Metro.

I bought the station wagon in 4/2000. The colors I got it in were dark red w/ light grey trim and interior. The car was comfortable for any size of drive and got great gas mileage, but suffered from nuisance electrical and mechanical issues.

Not many uhhhhh It looks nice. The cigaret lighter still works.

Weakness:

Tranny TRANNY TRANNY I have also noticed during the short time I have been able to drive it , that it seems the front rotors tend to warp rather often. Gas milage sucks as well.

Bought this car in Feb. 2001 with just over 60,000 miles on it. Looked and drove so sweet. Got it on friday only put about 25 miles on it between Fri. and Sat. . When I left for work Sunday afternoon I had NO foreward gears and reverse slipped badly. Luckily I still had the broken old Buick that I anly paid $400.00 for at the time. It got me to work. I called the dealer and he said he would take care of it. He did, had it towed within an hour. Took 2 weeks to rebuild the tranny. All was well right? 4 1/2 months later the whole family made a trip to Florida in this beast, a little cramped with 5 of us but ok I guess. Made it back as far as Ohio when we stopped at a rest area to take a break that was it BANG tranny dead again. Same mechanic rebuilt again as it was under his six month warrenty. 6 1/2 months later BANG it's dead again. I see red and am looking for a possible prison term after killing every ford dealer in sight. Now it is nolonger under warrenty and is the only vehicle I own. $1800.00 later for yet another rebuild at a different shop I am given 2 year warrenty this time. We moved to Florida shortly after. All is well again right? 1 1/2 years into warrenty BANG! Yeah you guessed it. Mechanic says ship it back to Pittsburgh I'll fix it. I now own a rather large FORD paper weight that purrs like a kitten and looks great still however it will never again move under it's own power. It sits in my driveway as a testement to FORD quality. Which much like this car has severly lost it's value. I'll buy anything but a ford at this point I'd rather push any broken down old jaloppy than ride in another ford. I am told that since I did not but this thing(for the lack of a better word)new I can not use the lemon law so maybe I'll paint it yellow!!!!

Strength:

-Spacious and comfortable interior

Weakness:

-Unstable and unpredictable electronics -Poor visibilty and body awareness -Weak and thirsty V6

While this car may be good for people with money to burn, it doesn't come near the top of the midsize sedan market. I got this car as a loaner vehicle while mine (1999 Chevrolet Malibu) was in the shop. It only had 35,000 miles on it, but it felt like 75,000. The transmission took forever to shift into gear, and the whole car felt like it had asthma when I needed a little more power. Speaking of power, the 3.0L V6 was the most disappointing 6-cylinder I have ever used. Most of the 155 horsepower was needed to move the weight of the vehicle instead of getting me from A to B, and the EPA-estimated 19MPG was nowhere to be found. During daily city driving I was getting 16MPG with no A/C or defrost. Definitely a hit to the wallet with gas at $2.45 per gallon. The electronics of this vehicle are shaky too. Occasionally the "Passenger Airbag Disabled" light would come on and stay on while driving, making me wonder if it was just an electronic burp or something more serious. Thankfully I never found out which it was. Ford's electronic engineers baffle me as well. They can jam the car with every power convenience known to man, including a trip timer (isn't that what a clock is for??), but it doesn't have automatic headlights that even Hyundai found money to include! Of all the cars I've driven, I don't believe I've dispised this one more in the short time I've had it. I didn't have to make any repairs to it, thankfully, because I only had it for a week. In that week I used it as a utility car (pizza delivery) and drove over 500 miles. Still, I don't recommend it as a car to own.

very quick vehicle, low profile

clutch goes and shifter has a bad rap

Some guy said to me these cars were quick well they beat mustangs. I thought for sure that was not true, the mustang can do zero to sixty in six seconds flat, well after driving my sho with five speed manual, I can tell you one thing, these cars are like driving an exotic! Why? you ask because in first gear you can go about fifty kms per hour, second, up to eighty clicks, then where the real power of the twenty-four valver comes in you hear a kind off whining sound and BAM! you are now going one-hundred and twenty clicks in third gear!

Nice looking. Nothing major has broken down on it, yet.

Weakness:

Cramped. Noisy. Windows squeek when closing. No trunk to hide belongings when traveling.

I bought this car with 17,000 miles on it. The tires had been replaced and work had been done on the brakes. The car has driven nicely except it is loud on the highway, and has a high pitched whining sound when it hits 65 or so. The car looks large, but actually it is a tight squeeze. Not comfortable driving long ways. I've had to replace somekind of 'sensor'. Was under warranty though. Now the cruise control did not work this a.m. until I had been driving about 15 or 20 minutes. Hopefully, this will not be a problem like the truck recalls. After reading some of the reviews, I am scared this car will 'fall apart' at the 50, 000 mile.

Somewhat tight cabin - front center console seems to take up alot of room. Rear drum brakes seem rather antiquated, not to mention a bit touchy.

Great car. This is the third Taurs that I have owned, and they have all been great. This is the first I've had with the duratec 24 valve V-6 - worth every penny. I've driven the car almost 25,000 miles and have not had a single problem. Fast, safe, comfortable, well equipped - what's not to love?

Strength:

Good solid transportation with a fair amount of room. Given that the Taurus's just year old can be purchased from dealers at less the $9,999 (seen several 2003s advertised that way) you can hardly beat the value of an off lease model.

Weakness:

Limited leg room in the front for people over 6' tall. Back seat is for children only. Terrible dealer service. You'll take a huge hit in depreciation if you buy new. Low power for a "modern" V6 if you get the Vulcan engine (150hp).

Car came equipped with the AX4N transmission (the good one) so it has had no problems in that area (oil flushes every 30K). Currently has 69,000 miles on car. When under warranty the dealer was slow to fix items (three trips to get one speaker replaced). Refused to work on AC clutch (lots of noise) unless it was completely broken - not operating correctly wasn't good enough. Replaced clutch at 45K - only shop repair since going off warranty. Most of my problems with the car are related to Ford's crappy support of their product. The car itsself has been pretty good. Just bought an off lease Stratus as a replacement due to the extremely poor dealer service in my area (Manhattan KS) Fair power, fair mileage (averages 25 MPG on every tank) fit and finish have remained good even though the car is 5-6 years old now. Engine is serviceable by anyone with a decent set of tools. Ford must have skimped on the sound deadening beneith the carpet as the car is "buzzy" under acceleration and not near as "solid" feeling as the '93 we used to have.
