Looks great, goes fast, powerful, smooth ride, runs smooth. Comfortable seats, even the back seat is comfortable for 2 adults. I got a great deal on this car, book is $9000 and I got it for $7000, plus the dealer put over $500 in it to get it ready. It needed spark plugs and wires, they have a habit of burning the wires, it also needed a new MAP sensor. It has made me 22mpg so far and I haven't been driving like an old lady and it is cold out also. I expect around 25 to 30mpg in the summer, but the air conditioning could take away from that too.
Weakness:
Nothing, it's perfect. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a fun to drive car that's comfortable, affordable, and AMERICAN. By the way, the car listed below this one is an 88 Tbird, NOT a 98, I hit the wrong key, they put the 8 and 9 so close together (Doh!). Similar Products Used: No comparison for price and value, it will kick the doors off Camaros and Mustangs left and right, up to 105, that's when the speed limiter kicks in. |

Thunderbird 3.8L
Strength:
It is a great looking car and it drives beautifully. Rides great, I love rear wheel drive American made cars! Comfortable to sit in and drive for long trips. The 3.8 V-6 is really powerful for its size, I used to be able to keep up with a few Camaros and Mustangs, but after 85,000 miles it is getting a little weaker. Back when it only had 50k miles it really got up and ran. I make from 20 to 30 miles per gallon. Winter is when I make around 20mpg, in the summer it has made over 30mpg with ethanol (89.5 octane). Very reliable, it always starts, even when it is -35 degrees F with a -85 wind chill sitting outside it cranked over and started.
Weakness:
The Automatic OverDrive (AOD) tranny locks the torque converter as soon as it hits Drive or Overdrive which makes you lose power, but helps gas mileage at cruising speeds. After 84,000 miles the water pump went out and it blew the intake manifold gaskets, that cost me $400 to fix. But I drove it 35,000 miles without problems before that. Lack of performance parts for the V-6. I would recommend anyone who would like a smooth riding, efficient, powerful, rear wheel drive American car. After 88 they put in an independent rear suspension (the only other production cars with that are the Corvette and Viper) that makes them ride even better. Great first car for teenagers because they are classified as a passenger car (yeah right, at 108 miles an hour in a 2 door???) Anyways the insurance on the 88 is less than a 95 Taurus by a couple bucks. Best vehicle I've ever driven, and I have driven tons of cars, Dodge, Ford, and Chevy. Buy one now because they quit making them like that in 97. And by the way, the 88 model is the last of the Fox Body (same as a Mustang). Similar Products Used: Ive had an 82 F-150, this 88 Tbird, a 98 Dodge Neon, and now I just bought a 95 Thunderbird LX 4.6L V-8. The only one better than this 88 Tbird is the 95 Tbird. |

Strength:
It is a nice ride and is also fast. I think they look really sexy.
Weakness:
The headgaskets are made of aluminum, witch makes it easy for them to get hot and overheat. I dont know if I'd really recommend one because of the headgaskets. Although they are beutiful, fast, and smooth cars, the engine is not real good. Similar Products Used: none |

T-BIRD 4.6 V-8 LIMITED
Strength:
The motor has plenty of power- 205 hp and 285 lbs. torque which has a 0-60 time of 7.2 seconds. Also there are plenty of modifications that can be done to this spectacular motor if you really want to fly , although many people have difficulty getting traction as it is because of the monsterous torque. The interior is very comfy, and if your 6'0 or taller, is one of the only cars to drive without spending big $ or looking like an oldtimer. The car I purchased was a limited edition (only a couple thousand produced)
Weakness:
Ford definately has some issues with inconsistency. This is apparent when you look at thier recalls for poor design. My car , after 3 months , had the PLASTIC???? intake manifold blow ap because the pressure is too much for this retarded cost cutting design. At least ford recognized this and there is an extended service recall and replaced it with another plastic redisigned intake. Hopefully this design won't blow on me. Also the electronics could be designed better and the disc brakes could be larger(like in the lincoln mark 8 13" rotors) to take the load of stopping 2 tons. I would have gladly paid another grand or two for some more durable and reliable stock components.(bushings also not designed to take the stress of taking corners quickly w. performance accecories and body roll is bad. Next on my list for upgrading)Also tranny could be stronger and more durable. My car is great. Affordable, great looking, solid and rattle free (If you have a 1400 watt sound systeym, you KNOW how important this is). If you are above average height (I'm 6'6' 250 ) can afford to get an average of 17-18 mpg mixed driving with the inflated petroleum prices we are experiencing, and want performance (0-60 in about 7.0 seconds), and are interested in any moifications(tons of aftermarket availiable) then invest in a newer 8 cylinder Thunderbird. Similar Products Used: For the price and power, it is the best you'll find. Also 4 wheel independent suspension is unique in this price range. My favorite all time car. Past cars include 84 t-bird heritage(luxury model)with 5.0 motor. My first car, I ran this bulletproof monster into the ground after driving stupidly dukes of hazzard style , not getting oil changes for 20,000 miles at a time and getting it stuck in a lake, a riverbed, a pit, and getting ,on a regular basis, 3 feet or more of air. The funny thing was that it took 2 and a half years to kill it with tremendous punishment and abuse. In the end the tranny is what went out and the the V-8 ran perfect.I have allways liked t-birds and treated my newer birds with much more respect. My second is a 93 6 cylinder that I have had for 4 years.Good car with almost no problems for three years. The head gasket began leaking(an extremely common occurence with the 6 cyl.) and that cost me 1400 to fix.Now the tranny acts funny at times and gas mileage isn't any better than my v-8. I wouldn't recommend buying a six cylinder, mechanics say that there are many problems once you get to 100,000 mi( mine at 99,000) and from experience I agree. Also all pre 97's have 10.5 or so inch rotors, and the 97 has 12 inch rotors which makes pre 97 brakes warp very easily and glaze/overheat when braking hard(I've nearly crashed because they have faded almost completely when heated. The 97 brakes are adequate and dont have this problem. My family owns 2 dodge neons (no comment on quality, You get what you pay for!) a 96 Nissan Maxima (nice car, smooth, quick, but less power and spendy) geo metro (looks like crap , no balls, but great gas mileage) and my fiancee has a 96 Chrysler Sebring(quick, great stock handling, sporty, decent price, xtra crappy brakes-wear quickly warp easily after three replacements, and a front end that scraped on every driveway.) |

Powerful engine, comfortable ride, looks nice. I like this car, it's just theat Ford's incompetance and lackluster attitude prevent me from endorsing another Ford. On top of this a frined of mine has a 2000 Taurs and has more problems than i do!!!
Weakness:
Transmission- had rebuilt at 45000, Brakes constantly warp, engine looses the entire pan around 2500 miles of filling. Electrical problem has been fixed and come back 3 times! Lanham Ford fixed this car 15 times some for the electrical and some for brakes--I will NOT buy another Ford, for now i am stuck with this car so i will keep it but if any more probelms happen i will look toward a GM product! Ford T-Bird LX 3.8L
Strength:
The car looks great. Mine is silver and I think few colors look as good as it on this model. Although many say that the 3.8L on the base and LX lacks power, mine seems to do just fine off the line and all the way through 100mph. Reliability is also outstanding as i have only replaced brakes and tires.
Weakness:
Headlights are a little weak...a problem I have not heard of from this car but i guess i am just used to big goofy headlights or something. The V6 can hold its own but dont get too crazy with it. Sucks in rain/snow..the only thing this T-Bird is good for in the snow is doing donuts. I love my T-Bird and would recommend for anyone who wants a good, reliable, and fun car to invest in one. Mind you, this is not a true sports car. The V8 is nice but is really thirsty and costs you in insurance too. Bottom line is the thunderbird is a solid value and a sweet ride. handles well in dry areas only. like the interior and sporty outside look!
Weakness:
everything. the car sucks. intake manifold blew out at 45,000 miles and left us stranded. the only dealer in this little town had 2 intake manifolds in stock. Why? Because they blow all the time!! Yet the dealership could not deal with our car for 4 days!! We had a small garage repair it for 600.00 indicator light problems. Car overheats constantly and god help you if you have to drive in rain or hit holes. Rear end slips and wheels spin and you go nowhere. I dread taking off from a stop in the rain!! I am sure we will have problems when we ask for reimbursement from dealer. Air conditioner goes on and off at will. tranny shifts hard unless fluid is new. Put it in park and it surges forward a little. I am dumping this car ASAP. Please be warned that the guy who fixed are manifold said to dump it ASAP also as the manifold will crack again within 47000k as dealer upgraded the part but is still plastic and will blow again. The car also has 2 timing chains and a heater core problem that will take approx. 4 days and dash and motor removal to fix. Many bucks later you can drive it again!! While I thought this car was strong and sporty, I will never get another Thunderbird again. The long trip we were on was so uncomfortable because seats are placed wrong. I have every amenity on this car and I don't trust it now. It drove well, hugs the road but when you are going 80 miles an hour and pass 2 deisel trucks and your intake manifold blows spewing antifreeze all over your windows and you can't see and have to pull over and your motor almost fries at 45,000k, theres a big problem!!! Besides the intake manifold being plastic, Ford added extra stress to it by using it to brace the alternator!!! BEWARE BEWARE Similar Products Used: Nissan Pathfinder with 120,000k is the most reliable vehicle we own. Never have any problems except for rear main seal going out at 97,000k. did not cost a fortune to fix either. Thunderbird has cost a fortune already and of course warranty is gone. |

ford t-bird 3.8 liter
Strength:
Good looks, handles well, 3.8 has nice pickup on highway,
Weakness:
brake rotors warp easily(been turned three times since new), transmission seems to jump out of gear(like you put it in neutral) sometimes. torque converter replaced @18000 miles, 3.8 needs a little more power. one reason to buy it is for its definite good looks (I really love the way these cars look all cleaned up). I would probably suggest searching around for the v-8 rather than the v-6, it really could use the extra power. The transmission is something to be desired, but I guess thats what you get when you buy a ford. if you do end up buying one, GOOD LUCK. Similar Products Used: my other car is a 91 plymouth laser which I love. It has given me nearly no problems since brand new. I'd pick the laser. |

Strength:
Nice interior, good acceleration, handles well, goes fast, CHEAP
Weakness:
A/C tends to fail, 3.8L is "sucked out" for power, had minor transmition failures This car is pretty sweet for what it is. It gets ok gas milege, good acceleration, looks good, handles well. I would recomend this car for a first car because it is somewhat cheap to own and maintain. I would buy another t-bird if I was looking for a newer car because the two owners before me liked it too.
