Model Reviewed: Type SH - Red

Strength:

Great motor, transmission and especially the handling.

Weakness:

The back seats and limited trunk space.

I highly recommend this car. Its been constantly rated as one of the best handling (Type SH) cars under $30k and its very true. ATTS greatly reduces understeer and makes it handle like a rear wheel drive car. The motor is also very powerful for a 4 cylinder. Plus when the VTEC kicks in, hold on. The front seats are very roomy but the rear could use more room. The trunk is also limited in space. The stock stereo system is very good and the shifter is slick to shift. One of the great things about this car is the fact that it comes fully loaded. Things like power windows, power locks, power steering, power brakes, power sunroof, 6 speaker CD stereo and ABS are all standard. Even on the base model which is about 1500 to 2000 cheaper than a Type SH. This is because the SH has ATTS and the base dosen't. Overall this car is a blast to drive.

Strength:

strength, speed, mod capability, handling and looks

Weakness:

lack of torque, not enough rear seat capacity, turning radius, rough ride, weight, and it's too expensive.

The prelude is a car for a daily driver who also enjoys performance. The prelude comes with plenty of HP stock, but if that's not good enough for you, then there are huge amounts of aftermarket products on the market. The only things that are a problem and gets in the way of performance is it's weight problem and low torque levels. Besides that, the Prelude is one fast SOB. The handling is wonderful, even without the ATTS which is standard on the SH.

smooth ride...quick to 120 mpr. i also like the looks yopu get from guys in hooked up integra's, eclips's, gti's...etc.cuz they KNOW there compotion. and also the tiny back seat.(no taxi)..besides that it's reliable, and fun to drive

Weakness:

not enough top end..plus every time i back up i have to basicly stand up because i can't see over the trunk.. that sucks!.....the glove box..!!!! Their isn't one!!!! It's toooooo small.

i paid $8200 for mine....it had 120k on it....but i just bought a new motor for it...good for me!.. i would definatlly recommend a prelude....but not a sh v-tec...(only because i want one)...if everyone bought preludes.. mine wouldn't be so cool to everyone!...don't put me through that. this car is good for richy buisness people...but punk teenagers like me.make them look twice.

Strength:

Its fast. I put on an intake and it sounds bad ass. Its a definite head turner. I am a pretty good looking guy and all the girls want rides in it. I constantly get waved at by hot girls in other hot cars and it has a stock stereo system that bumps. I have a milano red 1999 prelude coupe(base) bought it for 21,999. brand new.

Weakness:

There isn't enough room on the passenger side?????if you know what i mean:)

I am going to put a dc sports header and a tanabe dtm medalan exhaust system on. I will be smoking!!!!! and get a prelude... I notice the honda owners are happy cause they look and last(engine) for such a long time.

Model Reviewed: Honda Prelude

Strength:

Flexible engine, nice shifter, good stereo, exterior is attractive without being flashy

Weakness:

Lack of headroom (and I'm only 5'7"!)--hard to fit in the car with a helmet (for autocrossing), comfortable seating position takes a little while to attain, Honda fog problems, clunk in rear suspension, oddball tire size

I bought mine with 39k for $17k. It is a great, sporty car for everyday use. For autocrossing, it leaves a bit to be desired--like less weight. If you aren't a racer, however, it is miles ahead of the Eclipse, the GTI (both the VR6 and 1.8T), the GS-R, the Celica (how about some torque, please?), and the Civic Si (see Celica comment). I would highly recommend it for people who are going to leave it relatively stock. Those who want a car to add toys to might want to stick with the GS-R or the Si.

Model Reviewed: Honda Prelude VTEC

Strength:

The 4th generation Honda Prelude VTEC is an amazing vehicle. Plenty of power stock from the work-of-art 2.2L VTEC engine, with a huge aftermarket following if you need more. Suspension is wonderful, and the 5spd transmission shifts like a dream (as a note, the stock prelude transmission is still being used on Stephen Papadakis' drag civic running 9.21 second 1/4 miles at 550+ horsepower). The interior is gorgeous and comfortable, with supportive leather seats and an ingenious illuminated gauge layout. The stock stereo with it's 5 by 7 inch Alpine midbass driver and tweeters is the best I've ever heard.

Weakness:

A VERY small back seat, that shouldn't exist. The sunroof rattles a small amount.

I got a steal at 16,500 for my prelude with 24000 miles. It has had absoultely NO problems for the 2 years I've owned it, and still gets 24 miles to the gallon on city driving (36 on the highway). If you're a yuppie mom with 5 kids, this car is not for you - get a minivan. If you're a person who likes sporty, good gas mileage, well cornering, great sounding automobiles and rarely has more than one other person in the car - buy a prelude NOW!

Similar Products Used:

1999 Accord EX V6 - I would rather have the accord for long cross country roadtrips because of the softer suspension and more roomy interior, but the auto tranny takes all of the fun out of driving.
1996 Mustang GT - A slug. I hate the interior, and although the torque is nice, the 5spd transmission is horrible. It has slightly more room in hte back seat.

Strength:

it's a head turner, fast, manual transmission sent from the gods, nice stock stereo, sweet gagues/dash

Weakness:

weird place for emergency brake, everyone complains about the back seats(i don't really mind, i don't sit there)

I had a civic EX, and when that was totalled, i decided i wanted a prelude. i drove other cars, but none compared for the price. i liked the eclipse, but it was incredibly slow, and had a crappy interior. it blows away my old civic. it handles like a dream. i have never regretted getting it. i've had it over 125mph, with 4 people in the car(it's not easy to get 4 people in it) and it still wanted to go faster, plus it was amazingly stable at that speed. when i had a lexus es300 at 100, it was wobbily and slow, and that car costs 2x as much! my friends trans am is SO slow compared to my prelude, i only wish this car had drum brakes so that i could do doughnuts better. It's VERY hard to get this car to slide, believe me, i've tried. it always gives me a smile when i shift to second and chirp the tires. big burnouts are no trouble in this car.

Strength:

Blinding speed, reliable, easy upgrades, takes very well to upgrades, looks good, great engine, attracts chicks, great sound system, and do you know why honda dont make a Type R version? It already is.

Weakness:

The interior could use somthing, very easy to scratch or dent the exterior, loud idle, lots of road noise

I paid $21,500 off the lot in '99. The last Milano red 5speed they had. I could have gotten the SH, but for around $3500 more I decided that I really diddnt need ATTS. I would definitly recommend this car for anyone that is serious about performance, but is on a budget. The most bang for your buck, and even more. It's also for that person that is a daily driver. very comfortable( I'm 5'11" and weigh 275, most muscle) so I know about uncomfortable fits. All in all, I'd say this car is the worlds best vehicle under 30K.
