Strength:

Runs Great and smooth manual transmission helps with acceleration 10yr 100000 mile warranty saves your but at 70,000 miles :)

Weakness:

Windows, automatic tranny stinks, get the manual like me. Parts only avail from dealer.

When I first got the car, It was to be used for strickly car audio competitions which is my hobby. I drove it home and parked it in the garage to begin work. Removing the interior showed that the car was actually built really well, better then some of the civics that we take apart and rebuild. We ended up rebuilding the car back together retaining most of the original interior pieces. We have done nothing to the car but stereo equipment and minor fab work. 240 amp alt, etc. And rims and tires. (15 x 6" rims with 195/50 r15 tires) Well, liked it, the car now has 70,000 miles on it, and just had it's first warranty work performed. The car has driven flawlessly since then. The 1.5L has a little pep, and little things make huge changes in the way the car acts. The warranty work was all covered by hyundai and they gave me a loaner which is included in the "america's best warranty" So I could not complain. The first service was 621.03 in parts, which they replaced some bearings in the manual trans, etc. had a new clutch put in at this time. A month later, it went back in and had 1179 dollars worth of parts, and drives better then it did originally. It's a cheap car, that I like better then my other cars, and hyundai gave me no trouble on any of the warranty work, So I cannot complain. (Ilike my accent better then the hyundai sonata and kia optimus they loaned me) Major things to remember: 1. Get the accent with a manual, auto stinks, and makes it so slow it's undrivable. If needing an auto then get the next level up, the elantra. 2. the windows will always make a whistling noise, leave them cracked. 3. most maintainence parts are only avail at the dealer, like brake rotors, exhaust pieces.

Good for small parking spots.

Weakness:

Transmission Acceleration Sun visor broke

Never ever buy a Hyundai Accent. I bought my Accent in 2000, it was a 2001 model (brand spankin' new). At 40,000 miles my transmission went. I had it replaced. 10,000 miles later I had it replaced again. 10,000 miles after that I had it replaced again. And once more 10,000 miles after the 3rd transmission I had it replaced again. This time I took it to another dealer and they told me that whom ever put the last transmission in the car mounted it wrong. When I contacted Hyundai to tell them about the four, yes four, transmissions I had put in the car they acted like they didn't care. I had to take them to court for the Lemon Law and after all was said and done I got $2,000 from Hyundai. Woopie!

Excellent AC/in car defroster performance Parking convinent 10 way adjustable driver seat with lumber support heated mirror quiet tires Good CD player smooth transmission A lot of stortage space. Can fit Snapple bottle holder x2. 3 cup holders. 2 of them can fit paper boxed drink.

Weakness:

Noisy Engine soft suspension small interior (compare with Echo) Extremely low resell value

This car fit my application pretty much. I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada. This is a city car. The price I paid included tax, flight and options in Cdn. I use it from home to work and weekend shopping. Distance is usually within 15km. So I got a lot of stop and go experience. Rarely exceed 120km/h. My car is well equipped with this price. althrough it only has one air bag. It has CDP, AC, power windows and locks, heated mirror, tilted steer, 10 way adjustable driver seat. All of them are useful for me. Defroster and AC are highly efficient. Can defrost fog on wind shield inside the car in a minute. It can significantly cool down the interior in 5 mins. Small interior is probably a main factor of the above advantage. CD player is OEM from clarion. No MP3, but the sound performance is supprisingly clear. It is good for voices. It also has a small problem in such a small car. I discovered if I am sitting at a proper position, My distance to the windshield is closer than other compact cars. When U drive at night, U can find some refraction from the interior lights. such as the clock, and the dash (from side window) Which may affect some of you. I get used to it now. Engine is quite noisy above 3000rpm. below 2500rpm is quiet. Transmittion is very smooth. Suspension is quite soft and body roll is significant. I don't like this behavor very much. The body roll is especially un welcome when I step on the brake and accelerate from stop. As a small car, parking has an advantage. Because the car is narrow, it is hard to get bumped by the car door parked beside you. I highly recommand this car. For people who live in greater Vancouver area. It is good if you want to have a better interior feature, with a tight budget and can give up some performance. In our city, when we always just stop and go, I am willing to give up some engine stuff and get a more city friendly car. Which is the target of Accent. Unfortunately, it has a very low resell value. So unless you really want to keep the car, otherwise, leasing one will be a good choice.

don't buy this car! the first month i had it, it went in 4 times and at least 2 times everymonth after till i finally got rid of it a year later. everything was under warranty but what a hassle. everything that could go wrong in a car went out on it. called hyundai corp. and they did nothing about it, very rude! these cars a cheap for a reason, and who cares about that warranty if it still has to go in all the time. it cost me time off of work and hours of waiting in bad waiting rooms at dealer. but it gets props for not totally exploding when getting in an accident. i was hit from behind and slammed into an suv, sandwiched. air bag did not go off, thank god for seat belts!

Model Reviewed: Accent, 3 door, automatic

Strength:

Small size is great for knowing exactly where you are on the road. The front seats were very roomy, for me anyway. The drivers seat was very comfortable, though maybe just a bit too hard. The seat was set at just the right angle and at just the right height which was just perfect. Whenever I drove it, it was like it had been made for me. It was just so effortless to drive.

Weakness:

The driver side window dohickies inside the door broke, so the handle couldn't be used to roll up/down the window. Instead I had to force-push it down with my hands, and then force-pull it back up. And it was forever slipping down so there was a constant whistling noise as I drove. A coworker told me his daughter also had a 96 Accent, and she had the same window problems. That was pretty much the only problem. Toward the end the car would slow down and sputter before coming out of it and continuing on normally. I never had a chance to get it checked out because of the accident.

This was my first car, and while there were some things wrong, I loved it so. I was involved in a major accident, and the car was wrecked, so I no longer have it, and I do miss things about it. My dad was wary of me getting this car. He said small cars can offer minimal protection if involved in an accident. Well, I was involved in a pretty major accident, where the car was totaled, and all I got was a bruised knee, and an over-extended wrist. This little car absorbed the impact surprisingly well. Granted the speed involved was about 35 mph, so I'm sure head on collisions at 85 mph could create results far worse.

Weakness:

Seats are a little hard No drop down arm rest for the passenger side

I have owned this car since June 2003, and it has been fantastic!! They are very popular here in Central Florida, its not uncommon to see all the different models on the road at any given time. This is a great commuter car for work, school, kids, etc... However long trips are not that comfortable. The seats could use a little more "cush" for the "tush" !! My son particularlly complains of the discomfort of riding in the back seat for any length of time. (I havent tried this yet,I am always driving) Overall I would say this is a terrific buy for the money, and I hope to upgrade to another model in near future.

Paint tends to Chip fairly easy, It's a little small for my husbund to drive, wish it had power windows and keyless entry, it's pretty little guttless.

This was my first brand new car and I totally loved it! I have had it almost 5 years now and I havne't had a single thing that wasen't the usual maintanance wrong with it. Yeah, it doens't have tons of power, but I've driven worse. I've taken this car on countless roadtrips and never had a problem with it. It gets great gas mileage. When I have taken it to the dealer they have been really great. I know a few other people that drive Hyundai's and all of them have loved thiers also. For a first car this one is great. and you really can't beat the warranty. I just bought a new VW, but my parents have been so impressed at how well my car has done that they have bought it off of me.I love this car and I hope my new one can live up to it.

So far so good. Traded in a gas-guzzling V8 for the base Accent. My savings in fuel, insurance and monthly maintenance on the old car are making the Accent's payments for me.

I bought this car new back in 1998. It was my way of treating myself to graduating nursing school. I have taken good care of this vehicle. I love my hyundai. Only thing I have ever had to do to it was routine oil and air filter changes, bought 1 new battery, replaced brake pads 1 time and put several sets of tires on it as i tend to drive a lot. I currently have 91,500 miles on it and it is still going. It has been recalled 2 times and both times it has checked out just fine. This car is sooo much better than my last wchich was a chevy beretta (money guzzling machine. As far as toys such as remote entry, cruise control, it falls short and it does not ride like a honda but for the money you pay its worth it. It also makes an excellent first car.
