Strength:

Style is good. Good pickup for 4 cyl. Warranty is excellant.

Weakness:

Lots of electrical problems: transmission has problems sometimes when traveling at one speed and accelerating(occasional thing the dealer can't figure out), check engine light broke a couple of times, headlights broke twice within the first couple of months, the radio broke five times, window gets stuck, cup holders of course, etc. Assembly kind of cheap. The service department also has problems. They oreder wrong parts, forget to order parts, replace things that are already fixed (then deny having fixed them in the first place), taking weeks to get parts, possesing a snotty attitude when dealing with me, etc.

The car is a piece of junk. I have been to the dealer for repairs over 20 times. The service department needs some help too. The only reason I have had it so long is the warranty and because it takes so long to repair.
The style of the car is nice, but the craftsmanship is weak and many problems resulted. There were not a lot of major problems, but many, many small ones that required many visits to the dealer.

Strength:

First off, the Styling of this car, inside and out, makes it look and feel much more expensive than it is. People are always stopping me on the road and admiring my car; not something you're going to get w/ a Honda Civic. Secondly, The warranty is exceptional, and so far, the dealer support I've gotten has been descent. But perhaps the biggest draw for me was price; I got the base model and paid 13K -- almost a grand below invoice. Nowhere will you find this much car for only 13K.

Weakness:

Cupholder placement, Dealer Prep - The one complaint I have of the dealer is that they clearly did not inspect the car before handing me the keys. My Trunk light was not working properly and the hook for the passenger side floormat was offcenter -- If they had inspected the car, they would have caught these things and saved me the trouble of going back.

This is an eye-catching car that is an extraordinary value and great fun to drive.

Similar Products Used:

In my opinion, it is clearly the best choice among it's competition (Saturn SC, Pontaic Sunfire, Honda Civic, etc.)

Strength:

price. rather fast acceleration. I also like the looks.

Weakness:

Well, alright. Almost everyone knows about the cup-holder and all that stuff. Oh, another thing - auto option just takes all the fun out of it (well in any cars). Don't pay extra 800 like my friend Tim.

Well I should say, I didn't expect this from Hyundai. When I bought this car, I was looking at nothing but the price. Now that I think of it, that was one good decision I made. It'll probably keep me on top of the road until I graduate from college. Oh by the way, most of the people that slashed on this car paid a lot more than they should have. Fools! Don't blame the dealer (or your next door neighbor). It's your responsibility to keep up with their games. I just love Tiburon but paying 16000 - 18000 for it is just stupid.

Similar Products Used:

Reasonably speaking, it is probably on the same class as Eclipse or Celica. Well, it can keep up with my older brother's 911 Turbo (of course, I don't recommend doing that if you are planning to sell the car or trade it in. But hell! It's so cheap you can always buy another one)

Model Reviewed: Tiburon

Strength:

I enjoy the CD player, except when it's covered in coffee because the cup holder is positioned and angled in such a way that any drinks held within are conveniently poured over it. I like the sunglasses holder.

Weakness:

Trunk doesn't close properly, side vents are garnish, brakes shot at 30k kms, tires at 31k, clutch at 33k. Dealer thought this was quite normal. Seat belts don't retract. Went through a car wash with the A/C on and got a face full of suds through the vent- this problem may not be Tiburon specific. Accelleration is very inconsistent- most of the time it's very slow, although sometimes I can give the kid next door a run for his money on his big-wheel, that is if I don't run out of gas. Winter driving is quite an adventure, imaging the traction an ice cube would have on a teflon surface. The freakin sun visors chafe against the roof when driving just enough to cause an annoyance ensued facial twitch noticable to passengers. The drivers side window leaks, the sunroof seal came of and hit me while driving, a 747 could hide quite comfortably in my blind spot, and it smells funny.

First of all, my impressions on those of you who assigned 5 stars to this car, I hope I don't encounter you on the road as you are obviously drunk. When roadside assistance is #2 on your cell phone speed dial you have a problem. I save the hassle of continually calling the dealer by simply pre-booking by-weekly maintenance appointments and signing over every third paycheque to the hyundai service department. One of the mechanics there thanked me last week for paying his daughter's way through college.

1991 Chevy Optima- The only other car I've owned and the only piece of crap worse than this Tiburon. My only comfort is knowing I traded that car in on the SE a year ago and it's still in the lot! That thought puts a big happy-ass grin on my face every couple days when I pull in for service.

Strength:

Mitsubishi power plant

Weakness:

should have been offered as a turbo

perhaps you are all forgetting that the 2.0 motor is the mitsubishi platform, and the turbocharged mitsubishi eclipse motor is almost a drop in replacement? Anyone who bags on this car, and hasn't done that swap should recieve a boot to the teeth for even mentioning a honda civic.

Similar Products Used:

honda civic: have you people gone mad? you are not going to build a fast honda without dumping a ton in the motor and stripping the car of all the niceties ( like factory seats, door panels, and steel bumpers... those insignifigant things). I say drop a turbo eclipse motor in the tiburon and hit the track for some real fun.

Strength:

Exterior, i always catch people staring. Interior, all my friends comment on how spacey and futuristic it looks. Transmision, the 5-speed manual is out of this world. and the little four banger puts out a lot of power.

Weakness:

The obvious, cup holders and seatbelt. And it could afford a bit more power (2002 tibys come with a v6 and over 2oo hp)

Ive been seriously looking at cars for over a year (im only 16) and one day with my dad i saw a brand new tiburon. emedietly i fell in love with it. the styling is amazing, there is no other car like it. ever since then ive wanted one, and finaly, on friday, july the 13 (yeah, friday the 13th) i bought my first car, a cardinal red, base model hyundai tiburon. all i can say is wow. its an amazing car. for a kids first car, i highly recomend it. the warranty is out of this world. and with the standard features, and the price its at, no other car compares.

Honda accord - id take my tib any day, its a nice car and all, but no where near my tib.

Strength:

Design - This is the best part of the car. I could have waited until the
2002 model and gotten a v6, but I really wanted this particular
model. To me, it looks and feels very european.
Speed - 140hp and even the automatic is peppy. But if you can get the
5speed, get it!
Build quality - This car has alot of curves that have to fit
together just right or it will look like junk but
every piece was perfectly aligned.
Interior room - I know no one will believe me, but my friend who went
with me on one of my test drives of this car is over 400
lbs. and 6'5" tall. He was not only able to fit into the
passenger seat, but was able to get behind the wheel and
drive in comfort.
Suspension - This car takes corners better than any car under $30,000 I've
ever been in. Yes, you'll feel the bumps, but they won't jar
you.
Sound System - I love the sound from this system. That's all I can say.
Warranty - Anyone who complains about this is insane.
Cost - Like I said in my review, If I was rating a $40,000 car, I'd be a
bit more picky, but since that amount would allow me to buy two of
these cars and still have enough left over to buy gas for a few
years, I think I can be a bit more lenient.

Weakness:

Cup holders - I don't mind them, but my wife does.
Sun Visors - Once again, I'm fine with them but a friend of mine said they
looked cheesy. He still loved the car.
Antenna - I would have liked a power one.
These are some massively tiny complaints for a car. But if someone just has to have sun visors that don't feel "cheesy" to them, then maybe you don't want this car. We all have our pet peeves, I guess.

I come from Motorcity, and anyone who knows Detroit, knows there is alot of pressure to buy American. I even work for a GM supplier and recieve a pretty decent discount on their vehicles. Even with all that, I had to go with the Tiburon.

Everyone I know is stunned at the quality of this car. I purchased a package 6 Tib (completely loaded), automatic (wife involved there). The price is fantastic. It's not the car for everyone, but it is built very well and is very sporty. I researched for over 2 months before my purchase and I know I made the right one for me. Drive one and see if it's right for you. If you're looking for an inexpensive sports coupe and want something that feels unique, I think you'll make the same decision I did.

I'm basing my rating of this car based on what it provides for the price. Of course if this car cost $40,000 or more, I'd have a different view of it. But if I could afford a car that expensive, I would never have checked out the Tiburon in the first place. But I can say that I chose it over several vehicles in the $25,000 range. There are faster sports coupes and there are less expensive sports coupes, but the Tiburon is faster and less expensive than most.

Seriously, these reviews that give the Tiburon one star then complain that roaches came out of the vents say more about the owners than the car, don't you think?

Similar Products Used:

Honda Civic - Dull, dull, dull. I know it has a great reputation, but for
the price, I want more car. Did I mention dull?
Toyota Corolla - See Honda Civic.
Ford Focus - If you love the Aztek, you'll like the Focus. I don't.
Pontiac Sunfire - By the time you load it up, it's about $20,000. Why?
And it isn't built well.
Chevy Cavalier - The Vega of the new Millenium. This could be the worst
built car on the market today.
Mazda Miata - Nice car, but not very practical transport. I'd get one for
the weekends, though.
Toyota MR2 Spyder - See Mazda Miata.
Saturn anything - Very cheap materials. I was surprised by that.
Ford Mustang - I used to love the Mustang. Remember when it was smaller
than the Town Car? Seriously, It's just gotten too big.
It was never meant to be a camaro.
Toyota Celica - Cool look, but once you start adding in the extras, like
A/C, it gets way too pricey for what it is.
Of course, alot of this is subjective, but it does explain why I bought the Tiburon.

Strength:

Why do you think I went for a second one? Quality fo price, Look vs price, Pleasure to drive (Miata owners syndrom!) and finally a RICE EATER!

Weakness:

Suspension modified to be more confortable on the latest version (Not stiff enough!) cup holder, needs a turbo or 200hp by any means!

My first Tib was a 97 base model with drum brakes at rear vs 4 disc brakes for the latest generation (It is a major improvement!). I was a biased Honda owner previously because they where not overpriced at the time (2x 1991 Civic SI and a CRX SI SE 1991) also owned a Eagle Talon 92, the quality of the suspension and the weight balance ratio are a big plus for the Tiburon! No over or understeer perfectly balanced, the rubbers are not optimal so you will maybe change them for a better compound and for sure the intake needs to be modified (To restrictive coz to small) I got on the dyno 155hp for a 500$ investment.Take your time to make a decision but please follow my advice go do a roadtest and think about 300$/month Canadian on a 3 year lease with a bumper to bumper coverage. p.s. There is no perfect car and there will be always someone to complain about something in life wathever the product!
