Mazda Millenia (1995 - 2003) Midsize | Compact

Mazda Millenia (1995 - 2003) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Mazda Millenia was launched in North America in 1995 and replaced the 929 as Mazda's flagship sedan offering. The Millenia is offered as a 4 door sedan with a 2.5-liter/170-hp DOHC V-6 or a supercharged 2.3-liter/210-hp DOHC V-6. It comes standard with a 4-speed automatic and ABS.

Having been developed for a separate audience from typical Mazda customers, the Millenia boasted a myriad of finer details. It was engineered to far greater levels of perceived quality than existing Mazda cars, such as interior plastic, panel gap and thicker paint coating.

Strength:

handling!!, acceleration, comfort, Bose sound system!, styling, technical uniqueness, hold feature on automatic transmission

Weakness:

automatic transmission (manual not offered)

The Millenia is a truly superior auto which has aged well since introduced in 1995 (I paid $31,500 for my black 97 S model 3 years ago). Besides being comfortable and generally well mannered on the road the Millenia excells when pushed - particularly in high speed handling and acceleration. It handles much more nimbly than similar cars of its size - very sports car like - different but comparable to the BMW 3 series (front vs rear wheel & other diff) that I have driven. I drive my Millenia quite hard and it is always a joy. I highly recommend the S model with the miller cycle supercharged engine. It is quick and sounds great on full throttle. I get around 19-20 mpg around town and 25+ on the highway - always pushing it. This is a great car which compares favorably to other cars priced similarly & higher - none of which, except for the BMW (I have yet to drive the new Audis) give a similar - exhilerating - driving experience. I have passed sports cars - such as 300ZX turbo - doing 90+ on curvy mountain roads & the car grips (great Mich XGT tires & suspension) & is most stable. This car is highly recommended for enthusiast drivers who will push it!

Strength:

Elegant styling

Weakness:

Lackluster acceleration

This is a world class vehicle with a few blips. Most annoying is the gas/trunk buttons attached to the lower driver side door panel. I kick it daily having to glue back on.
Alittle too much wind/road noise at high speeds.
Other than that the car is awesome. I still get stares when i shine my black beauty. Another good thing is that you don't see too many on the road.

The millenia is over all,an above average veheicle,there are still a few more refinements needed to make it a world class touring sedan.With the newer lower price,this sedan is worth the money.

Strength:

Halogen Projector Headlights (Before 98);
Low sitting position (low center of gravity);
Great stereo (Bose only);
Lots of storage (on door panels);
Stable at high speed (120 MPH with over 3300 Lbs)

Weakness:

Transmission (Needs to replace fluid every 10000 Miles);
Easy to get dented.

Cool styling, even though for 5 years already. Near Luxury but less to pay. Good Leather and Material used. Good material used for wind noise and road noise.

Strength:

Smooth, quiet, well finished ride.

Weakness:

Tranmission. . . 3 stars because of the problem I am now facing.

Just bought the car and it really is a tight car. However, since my purchase I have started to come accross troubling tranmission reports on the internet. I have also subsequently found the previous owners records and have learned that they went through 3 sets of tires (17" $$$) in only 21,000 miles. I can notice a slight "bumping" in the transmission at constant speeds of about 50-55 mph and when using the cruise control on the highway. The "bumping" is barely noticeable, but I suspect that it might be the culprit in disenigrating the previous 3 sets of tires. Any information anyone has on how to fix or cure the tire/transmission problem would be GREATLY appreciated. Besides the trsnmission woes, the car is extremely tight, quiet and smooth.

Strength:

Economical and a good ride if you are doing the driving.

Weakness:

Transmission seems like it is always slipping. Car is too low to the ground and hard to get in and out of.

Very impressed with the mileage, looks, and road handling.

Strength:

Its stylish, drives well. luxurios car with nice body. very impressive.

Weakness:

Alignment, i have wasted so much money on tires its unbelievable. Service light always comes up.Shift knob broke off, ciggarette lighter doesn't work. motor in the automatic window broke, sunroof doesn't work, total waste of money. I spent more money in repair than in the actual car.

Overall I wouldn't recomend this car to anyone, resale is horrible, my car is worth about 7000. Its a nice car, but too many engine problems, the car spends more time at the dealer than at your own house. I heard that the Millenia S of the year 2001 is a total different story. I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy a used car, that buying someone else's problems.

ENGINEL CHECK LIGHT. Is this stupid light a defect or what? Does anyone have a solution for this. I do not want to waste money taking it to Mazda and spending $200 alone on them just checking on the light.

Very cute car. Nice comfortable leather. Nice security system

Strength:

Styling (this car often passes for much more expenssive car), ride, power, manuverability, comfort.

Weakness:

Transmission does not change gears smoothly, repair/service cost's, engine light, and I've heard that the axle/boot problem I'm having is prevalent in these cars.

My overall experience has been quite good. I have driven this car for over 5 yrs and 100,000 miles and haven't had any of the problems I read in the other reviews (which prompted me to write this one) except for the engine/service light. The light has come on many times and finally about 15k ago I just ingnored it and haven't had any problem. However, just recently my right axle has started to give trouble (but most car's w/a 100k+ start to have some problems). It has plenty of power (and I don't even have the S model), great looks (the finish is still showroom quality), and a smooth ride (even at speeds in excess of a 100mph). It's held up quite well, although it's probably aboout time to say goodbye! At which time I would consider another Mazda. I had a 626 before this and was just as satified w/it. I only wish they still sold the 929 stateside!
