Mazda Millenia (1995 - 2003) Midsize | Compact

Mazda Millenia (1995 - 2003) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Mazda Millenia was launched in North America in 1995 and replaced the 929 as Mazda's flagship sedan offering. The Millenia is offered as a 4 door sedan with a 2.5-liter/170-hp DOHC V-6 or a supercharged 2.3-liter/210-hp DOHC V-6. It comes standard with a 4-speed automatic and ABS.

Having been developed for a separate audience from typical Mazda customers, the Millenia boasted a myriad of finer details. It was engineered to far greater levels of perceived quality than existing Mazda cars, such as interior plastic, panel gap and thicker paint coating.

Strength:

Exclusivity...I don't see one on every corner.
Quality interior...layout and material.
Asthetics...doubt we'll see another of the like.

Weakness:

The S gets intown milage...under 20. Hwy...about 27.
Wierd 4 speed tranny setup...could have used a 5 speed auto.

I bought the car new in 2002 and have used it sparingly in the last 4 years (only 25KM). It's not a standout performer (7.5 sec 0-60 with a top of 155) but holds it's own in highway acceleration. Definately a looker as fewer and fewer are seen on the road today, compliments all the time. First thing I did was change to synthetic oil and tranny fluid and that made a big difference (probably was the tranny fluid) really smooth shifts and better (noticably) performance. After 7500 miles...the oil is still clear. Guess that's a good sign. Overall...it's an okay car. It's fast enough for me...the S is a much better performer than the L, has the comfort I'm wanting...and the price was right. Looked as a maxima SE for a few grand more and while the performance was great, it lacked the subtle 'refined' look and feel of the millenia....and they are everywhere!!! So I got what I got and I'm not complaining. So far...no problems, knock knock. It does have a unique tranny...4 speed with a mazda exclusive 'hold' button to lock in a gear. Would have preferred a well designed 5 speed auto with trip, but that's getting picky for a car i spent $25K on. Got used to it and it's become fun to drive...but take practice. Overall...it's a keeper for me as resale of mazda's are tragic, but I knew that when I got it. I like to think that as the next few years go by...I'll have one of the few S Milli's on the road. And its looks are timeless.

I like basically every thing about it, its fast, its classy looking, and super slick.

Weakness:

none really, except chicks keep speeding up next it to smile at me and I AM VERY HAPPILY MARRIED.

I bought my Millennia with 86,000 miles on it but it runs and feels smooth as silk. Holds the ROAD and accelerates like a dream.

Mazdas suck all the way around. With all the problems I had to pay for, I have paid for a brand new car. Everything that could possiblly go wrong with a car did go wrong on this thing. Stay away from this car. All Mazda products, and fords to for that fact cause that's all a mazda is. I'll stop now before I start cusing. I'm serious. Mazda should just stop making cars all together cause as long as Honda, Nissan, and Toyotas are around I'm Pretty sure NO ONE I mean absolutly NO ONE will miss this stupid brand of a "so called" quote on quote car.

Smooth handling. Good sturdy car.

Weakness:

Doesn't seem to stay in alignment that well. Check Engine light has a mind of it's own.

This is a great car. I bought it at a Repo auction and have had hardly any trouble with it. When I got it had only 28,000 miles. The only thing I had to do was change to O2 sensor. It is a great car for traveling. Great gas mileage and manuvering.

Strength:

210 Horsepower, 210 lb.ft of torque out of a 2.3L V6, need I say more. Tight suspension that corners like a dream, with very little body roll. Low, wide stance that provides an excellent driving experience and has all the required creature comforts.

Weakness:

The famous S/C seals and an engine that is intimidating for some to work on. 21ft of vacuum hose to keep this smooth engine running properly, so finding a leak can be a tedious job. Mazda parts prices.

This is hands down the best car I ahve owned. I have had my share too. It is a head turner even after being almost 7 years old. It is a superior highway cruising car that still achieves excellent mileage with over 160,000kms on the odometer. The only sad part is that Mazda dropped the line, for shame. There is no better midsized luxury car on the market that is in the very low price range.

Great looking, very nice to drive on the highway.

Weakness:

Parts prices and parts availablity. This car seems to know when you have 5 bucks in your wallet, then the next part costs you one hundred. If I never see another check engine light in my life,it will be too soon!!! As other people have mentioned, this car is pretty to look at,but you are constantly fixing it,and the parts are not cheap. I have also not been able to find a decent mechanic to work on this car.I am not sure if they have no experience,or are always trying to rip you off at Mazda. The sure don't have any excuses for there parts prices.

A very good looking car,but extremely hard to work on. You know you own a Mazda Millenia when your friends ask you how you left eyeball has a picture of an engine burnt into your retina. As other people have staed, stay away from this car and buy either a Honda or a Nissan. If I could give this car a review of 0 for the cost and frustration I have had with it,I would!

This is the second time I am write a review, because this car stinks! Too bad I am stuck with it for now because the resale value is horrible. The heat doesn't work, the CD player doesn't work, loud engine noise in the cold, the gas gauge doesn't work, the O2 sensor needs replacing, the check engine light stays on and blinks at you occassionally - as if to say spend more money on me. Shall I go on.....poor poor job on the steering wheel cover, crapping leather!!! I am so tired of this car. DO NOT BUY MAZDA PRODUCTS!!!!!!! Why has there not been a recall!!!!

Strength:

Looks good in the drive way and drives great when it is working.

Weakness:

Poor reliability, expensive to maintain, hard to find non-oem parts. Not too many mechanics non-dealers can work on this engine

Purchased from Carmax in may 2004. Had the car for only 3 months and Ck Eng Ligt and TCS also came on. Veh taken to dealer they kept my car for a total of 41 days trying to solve what they said was a vacum system problem I got the car back after the 8th day and had to be towed from the street with the same problem. They then told me the plastic vacum tees were broken. A $ 9.00 part cost me $ 237.00 to be put on. I got the car back 2 days after that for the same problem. This time they told me that the gas tank imploded because the gas pump styed on 24-7. The gas gauge was reading a full tank when it really was half full. I got the car back on the 41 day and drove for 2 months and again C.E.light. Now they tell me that the rear 02 sensors are not working. This was covered under the extended warranty i purchased which was another waste for $2000.00. In the last 6 months, my C.E. light has come on 6 times and each time they tell me it is something else. As I am typing this review, my check engine light is blinking and in sept when I took it to the shop and had the two rear 02 sensors changed the machanic made a notation on the receipt that if the check engine light comes on again the Pre-Cat will have to be replace. I am told this is coverd under the manuf. warranty 8 years or 80,000 miles. I am so tired of this piece of crap. Oh, it looks good and rides great when it's not in the freakin shop. And don't think about finding parts for this car outside the dealer. I would never ever ever recommend mazda to anyone. I found out that to have your spark plugs changed, it will cost around $150.00 because the engine has to be taken apart to get to the rear 3 plugs. Nothing is simple about this car. It is so sensitive to every little thing. STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY!

Strength:

looks good on the outside

Weakness:

everything besides the looks. This car WILL break down a couple times each year and mechanics that specialize in mazda dont know s*%t.wood finish cracks. leather rips. stereo buttons are cheap and break easy.steering wheel finish peels off. the car is very low and makes it impossible to do three point turns or park in driveways. the front bumper scraps very easy due to how close it is to the ground. car parts are very pricey and this car is built to break down every couple of months or thousand miles.

This car is a thief! everytime it thinks you have money saved up it break down so it can get a little(more like alot)financial attention. When I got this car I was pretty excited, it looked great, ran great and not too many people had it. Looking back I now understand why so few people have this car. The second time I put my key in the driver door the car alarm went off and the dealer later informed me that it was defective. I have never felt the joy of opening my car from the driver door, I always have to use the passenger side to get into the car.First problem my oil pressure switch broke, not that expensive but oil poured out of my car rapidly.second problem my engine valve had a leak that cost about $600 and led into other problems. Third problem: my o2 sensor broke. nothing very serious but still cost about 300. forth problem: my distributor broke down and the mazda specialist did not know how to fix it so I got rammed for 1100 on that. Other problems include something about my mass airflow part breaking and costing me 300 bucks. And the problem to rule them all is the lastest one. MY CAR STOPS RANDOMLY.IT STOPS WHILE DRIVING, IT STOPS WHILE AT LIGHTS, IT STOPS ON THE FREEWAY AND IT STOP GOING UP HILLS. This problem will seriously kill someone. The car shuts off and the steering wheel and breaks tighten up. this is no joke. The car will start up sometimes after shutting off but other times it will not turn back on. This is my first car and I have taken the sacred vow to never buy another mazda as long as I live. Buying this car used is the same as buy a new car because after a year or so the cost of repairs will put you at the same price range of buying a new car. Avoid this car at all cost. You will never see anyone else driving this car because they all know it is a turd on four wheels. The mazda millena only ran from 1995 to 2002. Whenever a car runs for only a couple years that means that the car is crap. camry and accord have been running for 20+ years and for good reason, they run good. I am a college student and this car broke down on the first day of school. This is a very undependable car and would not recommend buying it under any circumstance.
