Mazda Millenia (1995 - 2003) Midsize | Compact

Mazda Millenia (1995 - 2003) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Mazda Millenia was launched in North America in 1995 and replaced the 929 as Mazda's flagship sedan offering. The Millenia is offered as a 4 door sedan with a 2.5-liter/170-hp DOHC V-6 or a supercharged 2.3-liter/210-hp DOHC V-6. It comes standard with a 4-speed automatic and ABS.

Having been developed for a separate audience from typical Mazda customers, the Millenia boasted a myriad of finer details. It was engineered to far greater levels of perceived quality than existing Mazda cars, such as interior plastic, panel gap and thicker paint coating.

Strength:

Leather is comfy. Bose audio system. Miller cycle engine. Great family sports car.

Weakness:

More rear leg room. Cupholders. Expensive maintenence

Well the millenia is a nice vehicle but, as everyone else knows mazda doesn't want to admit that there should be a recall on 1996 to 2001 millenias that are having repeated problems. I own a 1996 millenia S and it's real nice vehicle but as I stated before there are some real problem areas such as the O2 sensors, front wheel bearings, fuel door release being stuck. Mazda makes some nice products but, I think there is someone out there who we can nominate to start a protest for a recall on these vehicles. I don't know about the rest of america but,I'm not going to keep paying for repairs that should be dealt with by Mazda in the professional manner that I know it can be dealt with.

Strength:

The styling, alone, beats the competition hands down--gets continuous compliments from others; Two-tone dash with Optitron instrumentation; Bose sound system with 6-disc in-dash cd changer; Award-Winning Miller Cycle Engine; Fold-down rear armrest with dual cup holders and trunk pass-through; Mini sun visor over rear view mirror is a nice touch; Great bang for the buck compared to the rest in its class; Stands out from the crowd of Camry's, Accords, and the like.

Weakness:

Should have 1-touch open/close feature on all windows and sunroof and dual climate control; Could use a little more legroom in the rear; HID-lighting and a full-size spare should be standard; Needs at least a 5-speed auto-manual tranny; Lacks a few luxury appointments, but Mazda isn't considered a luxo brand.

Another solid Mazda that is sadly no longer in production. And, only if the Amati luxury line-up had been established back in the mid-90's, this car wouldn't be such a sleeper. It's a rare gem, nontheless.

Strength:

Looks, power, handling, classy cockpit, great Bose Stereo

Weakness:

Durability, reliability, fuel economy, somewhat cramped interior.

This car is a heartbreaker. Fast, stylish, comfortable but beware everthing you read about this car. Supercharger seals started going at 58K. Small cloud of blue black smoke on cold mornings is the early warning sign. Check engine light on and off for 1 year. Intermitent climate control malfunction. Seat heaters went south. Wheel bearing problem up front. $1,000 60K tune up. $400 for rear brakes and rotors. Lousy fuel economy. Fuel guage is completely inaccurate. Horrendous depreciation, which is OK if the car lasts, which it doesn't. Stay away...

EXTERIOR IS CLASSY. I GET 27 MPH ON HIGHWAYS AND 20 ON CITY STREETS. STEREO, CASSETTE PLAYER, AND CD PLAYER ARE SUPER.

Weakness:

IT NOW HAS 78000 MILES ON IT. MECHANICALLY, I HAVE PUT $5000 (MOSTLY FOR LABOR) INTO IT FOR REPAIRS: WATER PUMP, POWER STEERING BRACKET AND BELT, BLOCKED RADIATOR, TWO BLOCKED HEATER CORES, FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS. POWERED STEERING WHEEL COLUMN DOESN'T ALWAYS RETURN TO DRIVER POSITION, GASKET COVERS LEAK (OIL HAS RUN INTO SPARK PLUG WELLS CAUSING WIRES AND PLUGS TO BE REPLACED). IT LOOKS LIKE A POWERERFUL BUT IT ISN'T. HAVING THE CD PLAYER IN THE TRUNK IS LOUSY.

IT LOOKS GREAT AND FEELS GREAT. I BOUGHT IT IN 1999 WITH 22OOO MILES ON IT.

Model Reviewed: Millenia/Base Model L Edition

Strength:

The car has a smooth ride, good handling, moderate safety, and a sexy turn head look. I also like that the windshield wipers are hidden from view when off or not wiping the glass because they're big and sloppy and would mess up the car's look.

Weakness:

OH Boy! Weaknesses? The up keep of the car, parts, and insurance for the car is expensive (in general and for a teenage driver),it's a tad bit on the slower side too.My Millenia has lumbar support but driving gets umcomfortable after about 2 hrs. The cup holders are in the wrong place so I'm afraid that if I put a drink in them it may spill on the stereo system.

I've got a 1996 Mazda Millenia for about 3 months now for my b-day. The Millenia is a pretty nice car for the year and price. It had 3 different models for the '96 year including the Base Model, Base Model/Limited(L), and the Supercharged(S) Editions (as so I heard and read). What I think appeals most people to any of the Millenias is the sporty/sexy design it has. What made the car a plus was the standard options it has including ABS,airbags, automatic climate control, transmission, and a lot more. What's also nice about this car is that not a lot of people have them and not too many of the same kind are on the road (IF you do see one,it has a different combination of options and stuff). The car can be compared to a BMW and Lexus (that's in the same class and year)because of the price and the standard features, but that's just about it. A BMW and Lexus is slightly higher in quality than the Millenia and it lasts a while longer(especially when the car is up in its age). This is where the "Battle Of The Strongest" really starts to kick in. I really like the option combination that the car has especially at just over $30,000 (brand new):Power leather seats, power sunroof,power/memory tilt(I like that option because the steering wheel goes up and down and makes the car seem all sports car-ish and futuristic),premium wheels,Bose/Multi-Disk Stereo, and more. Over the years since '95, the Millenia hasn't really changed much on the outside except for the headlights and tailights; But the newer ones (2001-02)do offer side-impact airbags and standard keyless entry, and that everlasting sexy look.I personally think the car was discontinued because people weren't buying them enough. (THIS ISN'T A PROFESSIONAL REVIEW, BUT I'D LIKE YOUR OPINION SO PLEASE RATE MY REVIEW)

Strength:

Styling, handling.

Weakness:

Parts availability. Seats uncomfortable after about 2 hours

I liked the car, but am glad the dealer put a service contract on it. Purchased the vehicle July 8, 03. Water pump went bad two weeks later. Got the car back from the dealer and it just did not seem to be right. Back to the Mazda dealer on Oct 1 because of smoking, told that it was gaskets in supercharger and was common for S engine. October 5 my daughter was driving on I 77 and engine blew. The car has been in the shop since then. I have waited 4 weeks for a new engine and an additional 2 weeks for gaskets to arrive. The dealer says that this is not uncommon. Finally all of the parts are in so maybe I'll get it back for soon. This is entirely unacceptable for a car with 65,000 miles. Fortunately, the service contract is covering most of the repairs, but as soon as I get the car back it is gone.

Weakness:

check engine light and 02 sensors. Mazda will not admit they are problems. dents easily. gas mileage sucks. needs more power

Decent car. could be better if mazda would do a recall on the problem areas. I had to replace both the rear struts that were quite expensive. Replaced one 02 sensor, two weeks later check engine light was back on. had it checked out and was told i had a bad 02 sensor. once again according to mazda this is a common thing but they will not issue a recall.

Great year end sale price, classy styling, smooth/quite ride, nice sound system, nice leather interior and loaded with options. Has 17'alloy wheels, cargo net in the trunk, beautiful color.

Weakness:

Sunroof should have one touch open/close option. A/C is too cold on level 2, and not cool enough on level 1. I adjusted the temp and am fine with it.

Purchased brand new on August 24, 2002 on sale for 19700. I went for the Platinum Silver Metallic w/gray leather. I have driven for 13 months now w/o a single problem. It only has 15,800 miles. I have added a factory rear spolier w/bright brake light (dis-connected the brake light in the rear window). I had the windows tinted very dark, added front/rear mud guards, black pinstripe and mounted the chrome Mazda plate on the front. It's one of a kind and stands out above all others. I also have the 100K mile factory warranty. I LOVE it!

I bought this car private 5 yrs. ago and it has been nice to me.I only replaced the tires, the CD changer cost me $250.00 to fix which was a big mistake because you can get an aftermarket one for alot cheaper and alot better. The engine light came on and they found a faulty spark plug wire, which I was told it is normal for the 2.5L engine. The car also does not like cold weather, makes an engine noise during cold starts then it goes away after it's warm up.Other then that no major problems.....yet...:)
