Strength:

No breakdowns so far.

Weakness:

Cheaply made car. Brake problems! Will never buy mitusbishi again. Do not recommend as a long term purchase.

Bought this car used for $9500. It started out as an average car with regular maintance for the first 2 years. Do a lot of long distance but lately been sinking a lot of money into repairs. It's up to 100K, had it for 4 years. Have had 2 brake jobs, rotors replaced, new timing belt, water pump, belts and hoses replaced, rear sway bar links were loose also had to get that repaired not sure if it was really needed or not. Now the engine light is on so will have to put even more money into it. Also hub caps have come loose several times and have problems with emissions in the car which was also another expensive repair.

I bought this car new. I've had a few problems with it since then. One being anti-lock brake light coming on, and loss of control of the car 3 times due to this. Also my paint began coming off about a year ago. I called corporate and they said that because my car was 4 yrs out of warranty that they would only offer me $500 towards a paint job done at a mitsu dealership. There is a defect in the paint but if you wait until you are out of warranty then you are out of luck.

I've found this car to be mechanically sound - however - there's MASSIVE complaints with paint oxidation issues on late '90 thru early '00 models throughout the country (see autobytel.com or http://www.topix.net/forum/autos/mitsubishi-galant/T7CMPRGK0PI4C1SKF). Mitsubishi corporate pushes the issue on the dealerships - the dealerships inconsistently address or do not address the issue. There's been news stories on the issue (see http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=7on_your_side&id=4804588 or http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=7on_your_side&id=4804588)and yet Mitsubishi denies to take any responsibility - BEWARE! - the value of this car will decrease without it being cause of your own.

Strength:

Good Torque, Good Handling, Very Reliable

Weakness:

Paint chips off at places, the plastics look cheap, no interior dome light.
Interiors are a hit and miss, many of the controls on the dashboard look and feel dated.

It's a very reliable car, never fails to deliver (73K miles), as long as the minimum maintenance routine is adhered to.
The controls are intuitive. The car provides excellent handling with good tires, get Michelin Hydroedge or the likes.
Somehow I feel the 4cyl engine provides a hell lot of torque, and overall good response with the 4 speed transmission, so that it feels like a V6 especially in the 2K - 4K rev band.

Overall a great performer for the $$$

Coming from a luxury car I miss the space, but love the power and handling(I modded the engine and suspension). I absolutly love how the car looks, and I've had nothing go wrong so far, and I've put on 26,000miles on in one year. I read that brand new they were very pricey for what you got, but for the price I paid awesome deal.

Strength:

Nice looking, great sun roof, decent interior, stylish for the money

Weakness:

Paint is the pits! Seats could use some lumbar padding

No problems ever except for the AC evaporator had to be replaced in the first 6 months. Gas mileage is fair. The biggest gripe is the paint. It is the worst that I have ever experienced. The clear has completely burned off leaving my black car with sloppy gray blothes. Never has this happened to any car I ever owned.

Strength:

Icy cold A/C. smooth acceleration. spacious. realiable. SAFE.

Weakness:

fuel economy-23city,30hwy. good for its size. but i would like a smaller vehicle with better fuel economy since i am a college student.

i bought this car as salvage more than a year ago. i use it on delivery since i bought it. i been complimented on a smooth ride when my friends ride it. very stylish on the outside, beutiful with body kits, rims... the works. although mine does not have that. it just has tinted windows. i have never had any trouble with it. although... i have concerns with the squeak from the breaks although they are new, and everytime its hot outside, when turning the A/C it pops really loud.
i was rear ended on november pretty hard as i can remember, it smashed it pretty good, the trunk, the bumper, lights. i replaced the lights and fixed the trunk myself. i kept the insurace money. it still works like a charm although sometimes i treat it like crap.

Strength:

Smooth handling
Big Trunk space
Good fuel economy
Nice lookin car (exterior)

Weakness:

Small backseat space
Crappy looking interior (cheap looking wood grain does not match the upholstery)
Clips on the hoses does not have locks (expect leak probs)
Poor paint quality (easily chipped)
Not enough power (only 140hp)

I bought this car back on 2001. It has a loaded features like sunroof, Aluminum wheels, wider tires, side airbags and premuim stereo. Its been 5 years now and has 103,000 miles on it. No major probs so far. The only issues I encountered are clips on the hoses does not have any locks -- so expect leakage when your car reaches 70K miles and paint quality is horrible -- can be easily chipped . Performance is good to above ave-- acceleration is fair for 2.4L (4 cyl engine). Good fuel economy when driving at speeds of 60-75mph at highway- Follow the scheduled maintenance like replace waterpump/belts every 70K -- Runs really smooth when syntethic oil is used. Good fuel economy on regular unleaded -- while good acceleration when premuim gas is used (but poor fuel economy)

Model Reviewed: Mitsubishi/Galante LS V-6

Strength:

Great Air Conditioning; Excellent handling on and off the road; Smooth ride; no suspension issues; nice style in that the Black Galantes do look like BMW's; Holds great value in the Southeast area of the country; Very realiable.

Weakness:

Defective paint: Kalapana Black
Cheap looking interior
Poor Gas Mileage due to V-6 engine

I was obsessed with finding and buying a 2003 Galante because I just feel in love with them for some reason; however, the honey moon is over I am in the process of looking for another car so I can sell this one because the gas mileage sucks! I put about $12-15 dollars a day in this car and it only gives me a half a tank of gas (I was warned about V-6's after the fact). There is definitely a real issue with the Kalapana Black in that the paint used for this car is defected. The car dealership hide the fading condition of the paint and as the weeks went on, there are what appear to be oxidation/fading issues on the hood, in the back and on top of the car. I tried to ignore this issue at first, but I have seen at least 8 Kalapana Black 2003 Galantes with the advance stages of this oxidation issue, (which look as if someone has poured acid on the car)and I shudder to think about the looks of this car in the coming years. It's just poor paint with this particular color and I am spoiled after having great paint jobs with my Mazda, Geo, Pontiac, and Chevy. Also, the inside looks cheap too. In terms of realibilty though, I absolutely can't complain in that I wholeheartedly agree with everyone on this board about how realiable the car has been so far. It's a great ride to on the street and the highway in that there are no suspension issues and it just rides very smooth. Excellent handling too!

Strength:

* smooth handling
* lots of front seat and trunk space
* good looking car
* seemingly good gas mileage

Weakness:

* interior isn't as lux as exterior

i bought this car used, and have only had it for a short time, but i really like it. it's black and looks very sleek when i wash it, and is much classier looking than my old ACCENT. my boyfriend is a tall guy(6'3") and he seems to have pleanty of leg room when he rides wih me. i'm pretty short(5'5") so i have pleanty of room too, but everything seems really close. the rearview mirror is right in my face, and i can never get my side mirrors how i need them. i'm not sure if it's how i have my seat or what, but took some getting used to.

it drives very nicely! i can actually take moderately sharp turns at the speed limit without everything in my car flying to the floor. it also picks up speed very well(sometimes i feel like like i'm going over the speed limit when i'm not)!

the only thing i can really complain about is the gas gauge. it was broken when i bought it, but i wasn't told until after i signed the papers and handed over the check. not it's going to cost me around $300 to get it fixed, and in the mean-time it's hard to tell what kind of gas mileage i am getting(i did go for 3 weeks without filling up once).

after reading the other reviews i fear trying to deal with mitsubishi. but i have a feeling that working for BMW will make my transactions with them much smooter.
