Model Reviewed: Nissan Maxima SE

Strength:

I got the SE with everything on it. Leather, meridian, traction control. I love the maxima for its interior. Very luxurious especially with black leather.

Weakness:

- The ride quality on the SE is a bit choppy. I was just driving 70 miles on dry road and when I hit small bumps on the highway, you would feel the end jump up a bit.
- The steering is a bit light. No effort whatsoever. But then again, I'm comparing it to my previous car... a 1995 bmw 325i.
- The bose stereo has too much bass that it can get annoying after a while. I had to turn the bass down all the way cuz your ears starts to hurt and the vibration is just too much.

The car is very nice for the price I paid. I really have no complaints. I had to walk away from the dealer a couple of times before they gave in to my price. They were trying to sell the same car for $27,100. Advice to would-be buyers is patience and good credit. The dealer tried to make it up by jacking up my interest rate to 9.9% while nissan is offering 6.9% for 60 mos. The key is don't be afraid to walk away. The dealer has more to lose than you. I said I'll get my own loan and started walking away from the finance guy. Guess what? They gave in to 6.9%. =0)

Strength:

Smooth ride, 5 speed is exellent, bose stereo is nicer than stereo's in more expensive cars, leather is top quality, accelerates quickly for a big car, lots of room in back and front seats, great on long trips and in the city.

Weakness:

There are a few options it is missing that I would have liked but nothing major. It can be a bit big for a sporty user, but if you want to take a family or people around then there is no "sports" car like it. Gas mileage could be better but it is a fairly big car. The only downfall I have seen is that I should have waited for the 2001 SE anniversary with a few more goodies.

Nissan is doing there homework. I love this car a lot. Long trips or in the city it is a joy! I would recommend it over any other car in the same price range! I think that you should get the SE over any of the other versions. The extra goodies you get are well worth it with nothing on the market to really compare. During test drives I was going for other cars 50% more expensive and I wasn't convinced! If your a family person or just someone looking to have a big car with that sporty feel... this is it. The maxima is the number one car on the market at the moment so take advantage of it!

Audi S4 - this car is awesome but doesn't have same room and is quite a bit more $.

1999 Acura Integra GSR - this car is a lot more sporty but the maxima seems to feel as punchy as it with the smooth ride

1994 328i - this car is comparable but doesn't feel as smooth and comfy as the maxima

Model Reviewed: SE auto

Strength:

This car has the most amazing engine. It pulls through traffic without a sound, but can really open up wide (and that's where it's the most fun). I can't believe how quiet and comfortable it is on the interstate, especially on smooth roads.

I bought this used, and it just sort of came with the Bose sound system, but I would definitely spend the money for that new. It'll carry anything from techno to Duke Ellington at 80 mph.

Perhaps the best part of this car is the incredible value of a 3-5 year old Max (mine had 88K when I bought it).

I hate automatics (and think that Nissan shouldn't even offer one), but this one is as good as they get.

Weakness:

A couple of minor things. The steering is too light for my taste, and there are comparable cars that can take curves better. I miss the fold-down rear seat in my old Accord. Oh, and the tach's broken. Not that it's a big deal, especially in an auto, but it has these cool black-on-white guages with a big, retarded tach that just sits there and stares back at me. The dealer quoted the repair at $360.

This is the best car I've ever owned. I'll trade it in a few years for another Maxima. It outclasses the Toyotas and Hondas. In retrospect, I could've spent another $5000 for a Volvo or VW, but what's the point?

The value is a point worth making, and I could make a good argument against buying one of these new. This car was stickered at $27K in 1995, and I got it 5 years old for $7500. Unless you need the warranty and new-car smell, look in the used market. Here's my point: if I sell this in 4 years for $4000, that's only a $3500 depreciation for a car that runs like it did when it was new.

The car fits a wide range of ages. At 27, I don't feel like I've surrendered my youthful aspirations to fast cars by driving it. On the other hand, my parents don't look silly when they drive it.

Overall, you just can't find the power, ride, handling, features and comfort of the Maxima in any other car in this price range.

Strength:

this car doesnt break!!! i have put over 120000km on this car this past year and the ONLY thing i have canged were the alternator and the tires.

Weakness:

the bose stereo went the first week, no fold down back seat, fairly weak body but not bad. i recommend taking off the back seat and seeing if there is rust on the covered metal, i saw one where the strut popped up through the back window.

i would definatly recomend a 3rd gen. maxima to anybody who wants a reliable car at a CHEAP price. the 1989 SE has white gauges like the newer ones, and i beleive this car was way ahead of its time. its very fast and you could find a good cond/high k's one raelly cheap.

Strength:

most HP compared to other V6s, available in 5sp., quiet interior, lots of interior and trunk space.

Weakness:

small turning radius, unrefined feel of the manual transmission in an otherwise fine car. The expensive Bose system has a wimpy volume level. The automatically adjusting rear view mirror doesn't dim the following car's headlights enough.

I commute 135 miles a day so I'm keeping my eye on the Maxima's gas mileage. After 1 month and 1,800 miles, I'm getting 24 mpg, but a lot of those miles were at 70 - 80 mph :). I got the leather, Bose, Meridian, and C&C package, so I'm enjoying the new features, including the "bun" warmer seats! Much more quiet interior compared to the Prelude. My biggest complaint is the manual transmission. With the long throw, compared to the Prelude, it feels like I'm shifting a UPS truck instead of a fine sports sedan. With my hand resting on the shift knob, I can feel "kickback" when I accelerate. What's this about? The shift lever need to be more "beefy". If I shift hard, it feels like I'll snap the lever.
But, with no other manual transmission offered with a V6, plus the additional 22 HP over the Accord and Camry (Solara), I feel I've made a good choice.

Model Reviewed: Nissan Maxima SE (auto / super black interior / beige cloth interior)

Strength:

Looks nice, good acceleration, nice interior, decent gas mileage, handles well

Weakness:

Doesn't look as nice as the 1994 SE's.

This car has great acceleration. I've been neck-to-neck with Taurus SHO's (second gen) and have beaten a 91 automatic 300zx and 94 Infiniti J30t, two much more powerful automobiles. Don't get a beige interior because its prone to get dirty. My transmission went out at 22,000 miles. I think I take pretty good care of my car. Fuel injectors were dirty, are costly to clean. At 75k, the fuel injectors went bad (when the car had a very rough idle, the dealer found the injectors to be bad). It has a timing chain, so there is no belt to replace at 60k, which saves you some money. Other than that, no real problems, had an extended warranty, but never had to use it. This car is generally a car of good quality, much better than the Mitsubishi (piece of SxHxIxT), and close to that of the Infiniti I30 (essentially the same car).

Get up and go POWER!! Luxury feel and comfort. Good looks and dependability that will last forever.

Weakness:

There is a clicking noise every once and a while when I start it in cold weather. Shocks are goin out finally.

This is the best car ever. Who cares about having an old cheap Camaro or a sports car that will die on you (speaking for all my friends that have has that problem.) You can get a Maxima for a little bit more, that will last you a long time. I love driving it. THe mods I have put on it since I got it are as follows: Dark tented windows, New spark plugs, New spoiler (like the SE version has), Rockford Fosgate system, Sony receiver, Custom Dash Cover, and a good cleaning. Mods i will soon get: Cold air intake, eiback prosprings, tokico shocks, 18" Konig Monsoons, and hopefully someday NOS!!

Thats ALL!!! I RECOMEND THIS CAR TO EVERYONE!

Strength:

Style:Mid Size-level Entry with Premium Package very reliable with 5spd-tranny but with 4spd-auto trans it S**ks. Guess What I have the Auto tranny and to many to list whats going wrong with it, but my friend has a manual tranny and nothing has gone wrong with his but his is a 98 Se i don't think there would be any difference accept for quality/interior/exterior/and performance but any lets get to the point his is alot better and nicer.

Weakness:

A/C panel is so weak that i have it on 4 it blows out the same air as W/out
Oil light problems have called the dealer about that
Drive gear drops when touchly touch when relaxing hand on gear
"""""RADIO ANTENNA S**KS CAN'T HARDLY PROGRAM ANY CHANNELS THAT (BITES)

Handles pretty well like a roadster with 18"rims. Never wanted a Maxima something luxury like a Lexus Is300,Infinity Q45,Mazda Millenia S, or Chrysler Concord LXE but overall i didn't want to spend 10000-18000 more when i could get Luxury/econmy barely/room/and performance. But having for 1 1/2 i don't like the value of spect towards the way the Maxima is treating me right now. In the near future i will probably plan on getting another vehicle not a nissan something else.
