Strength:

A lot of room for 5 people, takes off great and the body styling is sharp.

Weakness:

Well I guess after reading the other reviews it appears that I'm not the only only who has had to repair or replace the engine. Like everyone else I went throught the usual crap with the dealer and GM. Same response, Seen nothing, Tell nothing, Hear nothing! I WOULD not recommend the 97 or 98 Bonnevilles to anyone because of the cheap plastic manifold with the cheap Teflon Gasket. Spent $6,000 to replace the Engine and everything else near it. You name it I had it replaced, GOD I hope the new manifold holds out. BEWARE BEWARE

Great looking car, runs fast like the performance and ride. Leather interior is still in great shape. Bought the car because I have a 93 Bonneville and have had no problems with it. No problems till I hit 54K and just past the warranty period.

93 Bonneville Great Car no major problems just normal wear and tear. Have over 112,000 on it and should have purchased another one instead of the 97.

PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLDS!!!

Great Car! Plastic Intake Manifold Gave Out at 55,000! $900 Later, runs great. MPG IS GREAT ON CRUISE CONTROL! I am hitting 35 MPG On 93 octane, at 85 MPH... Otherwise, a great car... GM Should offer us all compensation for the manifold....

Giddy up, Style, all the bells & whistles.

Weakness:

Cheap plastic parts that have to withstand lots of heat. Bad Engineering on Pontiacs part!!! And those bad decisions get passed on to us.

Car Ran great for the first year and a half I had it, but at about 86,000 miles the upper intake manifold warped and my engine started taking on antifreeze (also the DEX COOL). I think I'm starting to see a pattern. AND I BET GM knows about this one.

nice ammenities and looks

Weakness:

to much cheap plastic which starts to fall apart if you don,t hold your mouth right

This has been a great car for me considering the year model and the amount of work that i have had to get done on this car.For the first year almost no problems ,but now my Harmonic Balancer is going out which makes the car sound as if it has thrown a rod , level ride has stopped working , air pump in trunk has never worked and also struts are nedding to be replaced .

Weakness:

Needed an alternator at 39000. Replacement has run 95000 miles. Why can't the original hold up that much?

Drives well but at 89,000 the plastic plenum on the manifold cracked and lost all of the DEX COOL fluid. Cannot find DEX COOL at any service station, only at specialty stores. $900 later and at 135000, plenum again replaced. This time it was an aluminum plenum, another $600. Three plenums-a non moving part! Where is the government watchdog? When you talk to GM they say there are too many miles. If every GM car had this problem, they would be bankrupt.

Strength:

Great Pontiac styling, plush interior, power everything, plenty of power and nice ride.

Weakness:

Cracked Intake Manifold, common with this motor, No recall as of yet? Dealer will repair with a 12 month warranty for $1000 + but a re-occurring problem.

Only had the car for one day, traded my S-10 pickup needed more room for the family, but the vehicle started using gallons of antifreeze,(79,000 miles). The dealer took the car back because of a "Cracked Intake Manifold". At least a $1000.00 + repair. No Guarantee the Plastic Intake Manifold will not leak or crack again. And did it cause any internal motor problems?

Great interior. Good sound. Cold A/C. Good Power. I can feel the road with the sport suspension. Lots of technogeek gadgets.

Weakness:

Hard to find performance parts. Some problems with interior components, but not serious.

I'm a race car enthusiast so I wanted a luxury car that could perform at a good price. The Bonneville has covered that requirement. I'm looking for another one.

Strength:

3800 V6 is a solid/tested performer with good power and gas mileage; this is the stage-1 series engine and doesn't seem to suffer from the plastic intake problems typical of the stage-2. Sport suspension is not plush but stable. Plenty of interior and trunk room.

Weakness:

Like most newer FWD's, AT has too many composite components and fails early... exhibits typical GM trim and interior plastic not-too-durable components.

Bought with 118K and now have 195K miles... really like the car and would grade it a strong 7+ out of 10 overall. It's a beautiful purple pearl metallic and gets lots of looks. Has the SSE trim package with a futuristic cockpit.
