They claim new brakes installed in front, machine cleaned back drums/rotors But still a terrible noise..loud grindy noise when I stop.. Is anyone else having these problems with the Sunfire.I know they use aftermarket brakes..Does GM parts really make a difference?

Price, price, price. Good looks. good power for 4 cyl engine. pretty good on fuel.

Weakness:

Trunk doesnt let you put in large size boxes. Engine revs higher at highway speeds and his somewhat loud. re-sale value is not good

Best Car Ever for price and reliability. I put on 120,000 kms and only problem so far was 1 wheel bearing. I have had 1 recall notice which dealership fixed for no charge. This car is rock solid and honestly still drives like new. Paint is still shiny and no rust. I've owned about 7 different types of cars and this is the best so far. Engine still idles perfect and I still have the original exhaust system. No troubles what so ever.

Highly Reliable Good on Gas Still looks really good when I clean it up and wax it in the Spring

Weakness:

Tires aren't cheap CD player acting up a bit in the last few months A few rust spots now showing up

I paid $12,500 for my black Pontiac Sunfire GT back in 1998. I picked it up off lease with 60,000km on it. BEST CAR EVER This car has been a rock for me the past 6 years, and I've put some serious clicks on it. It now has 225,000kms and it's still running very very well. My total repair bills over 6 years and 160,000kms in this car add up to $1,000Cdn. That's an average repair investment of about $166 a year...outstanding! Of course there's maintence on top of that, but that comes with any car. Last winter it was DAMN cold for a stratech in January, and my car sits out overnight. Morning starts were no problem. I religiously change the oil every 5,000km but I must admit I have probably neglected other areas of maintence like Tranny fluid, spark plugs etc. Even at that and with the car's age and mileage, I can still get serious power when I need it on the highway.

Strength:

None that I can see. If you are driving an unreliable car that will need the fuel pump replaced every 30,000 miles, among other recurring problems, what possible strengths can it have.

Weakness:

the fact it was built by Pontiac

I bought a used 2000 Sunfire from the used car department at Kendall Toyota in Miami. I chose this dealer because they were only 1 mile from my home and I bought a Prius from them 2 yrs. earlier. Bad, bad decision. One day after I took delivery of the car my son was driving on a busy expressway and it just stopped. I showed up before the tow truck. It started. I drove it home. The next day I went for a ride with my son to see if we could duplicate the problem. Sure enough, we drove roughly the same distance and it just quit. Come to find out this car, along with the Cavalier and some other GM products, all have a problem with the Fuel Sender Strainer that ultimately leads to a fuel pump that quits ($600 parts and labor, give or take $50). The driver window just fell off track which we didn't check before we bought it because it was 90 degrees in Miami that day and it was a manual window (as opposed to a power window). With the fuel pump problem, I have now had 3 tows on this car in a one week period. If you want to save yourself a lot of money and aggravation, buy yourself a Japanese car, especially if you are buying used. This car has got to be among the worst, flimsiest ever made. Furthermore, in reading other reviews, I learned that the air intake was in the wheel well, and that if you go through a big flood you can damage your engine. How this country makes Scud Missles and Rockets that go to the moon is beyond me when they can't make a decent car.

Strength:

It handles really good. Pretty good gas mileage. The seats are really confortable. Most car seats hurt my back after sitting in them for a half an hour but these seats are really good.

Weakness:

They put the air intake in the wheel wells. Not anything I would think to ask. During one of the many downpours we have had this year, the streets were kind of flooded over. There was a long puddle on the street that I idled into. It sucked the water into my engine and water logged it. The whole thing was soaked. It was $10,00 to fix it because I had to get a new motor. I phoned GM about the problem to see if it was covered under warrenty at all but they said because it was an act of nature so they wouldn't do anything about it. Atleast insurance covered it. I understand they can't control the weather but I think they should atleast realize they had a flaw in the design and stand behind their product a little more. Anywhere in the world you live you will have to fight the elements whether it be water or mud...both which would be effected by their design. It really bothers me because up until this incident, I loved my car. It has kind of left a bitter taste in my mouth about GM's vehicles and service. I don't think I will buy another GM just for that reason.

I have received really good service from two different dealerships I have dealt with. I had a bad incident with on but the other two were great. They were really helfull, anwered any questions I had and took there time to find what was best for me, not them.

Pretty fast, steering feels really nice, cool interior, bir glovebox

Weakness:

Overall quality is horrible. Dash makes weird noises and the bottom of the car is falling apart.

This car is half-decent, but a lot of things about it are pure garbage. It looked great first when I got it, but now the paint is chipping everywhere and it is rusting, even though I wash it every week and have had it rust checked. There is something wrong with the motor that makes it idle very rough, and I have spent lots of money trying to fix the problem but it is still bad. I am very frustrated with this. Also, the seats are horrible; not in comfort, but in quality. They have both broken and the metal inside portrudes outside. And this car is horrible on gas considering it is a 4-cylinder 5-speed standard. Very dissapointing overall.

Everything

Worst decision I have ever made was to buy this car. First car I bought on my own after I graduated from highschool and definately last pontiac I will ever own. Have had problems with fuses in the dash, check engine light has come on continuously for three years, even after it has been fixed. Radio lights are out and cigarette lighter no longer works. Also have had problems with the fuel filter a couple of times and just two weeks ago my fuel pump quit working while I was driving on the highway. Very dangerous and scary situation. Would definately not recommend this product to anyone.
