Strength:

This has been the best car owning experience I have ever had. The engine runs strong for a 4 banger, the gas mileage is unbelievable, and NOTHING HAS GONE WRONG IN OVER 65,000 miles. NOTHING!! The 4 wheel ABS with 4 wheel discs are great. The A/C has worked flawlessly in the Texas heat. Actual, real world gas mileage is 33 MPG in town, and 41 MPG on the highway. The ride is great for a small car, and the acceleration is well above average.

Weakness:

The flaky dealer network is both a strength, and a weakness. I did not come to the Saturn dealer to get new friends, just a car. Please levae me alone, and I'll get in touch if anything goes wrong. But nothing has gone wrong, so I keep getting these letters asking me to bring the car in.

I paid $15,000 for a near top of the line SL-2 with ABS, Upgraded Stereo, Spoiler, Alloy Wheels... Best investment I ever made. I bought my daughter a 1998 Neon 6 months after buying this car ( she REALLY liked the Neon), and I regret not buying another Saturn. The Neon was $800 lower price, but has more than made up for it in lousy gas mileage, and higher maintenance costs. I'd recommend it to anyone who needs a small, dependable, efficient car.

Strength:

RELIABILITY, Price, No Rusting.

Weakness:

The only thing which has broken on this which cost more than $100 was the automatic seatbelt. Otherwise I have had 3 other problems which cost under $100 each.
Of course, the engine really has almost no power, but it's what we wanted and meets our needs.
The brakes rusted up and cost a little more to fix than normal, but what can I say - we don't seem to wear them out as fast as most people (100,000 miles).

I paid about $13000 to get AC, Cruise and ABS. I have been VERY please and I recommend Saturn to my friends.
We just bought a Saturn LS2 10 days ago and we are very excited about it. We also returned the first LS2 for a minor reason and found the 30 day exchange/refund policy to be far better than I ever dreamed. We received a FULL credit for the exchange (including license and loan) and we traded down to a slightly cheaper LS2 model. WOW!!! Now I recommend Saturn more than ever.

We have just over 105,000 mile and I plan on owning it at least 3 more years.

Strength:

It gets great gas mileage, have never had to bring into the shop for problems. The Saturn people are a great help. The car repels dents and dings well.

Weakness:

Well its not exactly a sports car and isn't very quick. I also don't like the fact that it's pretty much plastic. It's also not all that cool to drive a Saturn :).

Around $13,000 bought brand new. I would definately reccommend to someone who wants great gas mileage but doesn't mind a car without a lot of acceleration.

Strength:

This car is dependable, company seems to generally care about its customers (they still send me mail).
Excellent gas mileage.

Weakness:

very little power, with the AC on its even worse, and dont even think about having the AC on and more than one passenger. .
The plastic panels the car has dont stop hail damage, I learned that the hard way. I also had a truck throw a rock into my windsheild when it was new, the cost to fix that was almost $900! The glass isn't bulletproof or anything, I dont understand why an economy car would have such an expensive windsheild.
When I first bought the car it was 1 year old and the sunroof leaked on a business partner of mine a week after I bought the car, I was bragging about the car when it happened (doh!). I had to go through alot of motions with Saturn to get that fixed for free, the salesman is the one who finally made it happen.
I get alot of road noise and when its raining, if I open the door, rain dumps on me when im getting out of the car.
power door locks do not work correctly. Saturn told me its because im not using my key correctly. I did not want to argue so I left it at that. I did not appreciate them implying that the simple use of a 'key' escaped me.

I recommend this car to anyone who wants a car with no passing power, likes to replace $900 windsheilds randomly and enjoys a car with no really exciting features.

To everyone else;

I would not recommend this car because of the poor power and lots of road noise and cost to replace the windsheild. Windsheilds breaking because of rocks being thrown on them is a common occurance, Saturn lost points with me for choosing the most expensive style of windsheild on the planet.

I hear people say how much they love their Saturns all the time. I guess I bought a really boring one.

Strength:

Attractive styling, decent handling, excellent fuel economy, very good reliability so far...

Weakness:

Cheap feeling interior with plenty of rattles, loud engine, warping brake rotors, seats are a bit uncomfortable for long trips

I think my SL2 is a good example of the typical S Series Saturn. Mechanical reliability has been good but the build quality leaves much to be desired, at least as far as the interior components are concerned.

Excellent car! Great Gas mileage and good service from Saturn when needed. Have only had to make a few repairs. Body style doesn't show dings or dents.

Weakness:

Too small for a growing family. Only avereage comfort when traveling long distances.

Saturn's reputation of putting the customer first is true. This was a great car. We needed something bigger for a growing family. When Saturn puts an affordable SUV or Minivan on the market I'll be one of the first in line.

Strength:

Styling, good handling, Owned for 4 years and it still looks new. Very reliable, leather seats are nice and comfortable, Dealer service is great. Good acceleration with manual

Weakness:

The manual transmission has a long throw and needs a little more added force to put in gear. Cheap plastic interior always rattles. Road and wind noise is excessive

I purchased the car with all available options. Leather seats support lateral sway nicely and the all-speed traction control is a must in snow and rain. The service people are always friendly and do the job right the first time. I also own a 98 Explorer and brought it in to get the brakes fixed, but they failed to fix the brakes on the1st visit and failed on the 2nd visit. Finally after dealing with rude service people the brakes were repaired on 3rd visit. Definitely recommend Saturn cars. Manual has good pick-up. Although I’m not to impressed with the current styling.

Strength:

Well built. Have owned for 9 years and now has 135K miles. Dependable, as long as its maintained correctly, and it is relatively cheap to keep up. Also, the dealerships really do have a better level of customer service than other US dealerships.

Weakness:

Saturn dealerships are not as easy to find as other ones (e.g., the closest one to me now is 65 miles away) so it can sometimes be a pain to get custom parts. Just something to consider when buying one.

Saturn builds a quality product, and I can attest to its long term performance. I would certainly recommend these cars to those looking for commuter transportation and above average customer service. Also make for fairly cheap family car.
I will definately consider the LS model later when looking for a new one, although it would be nice if more dealerships were available.

Strength:

low price, no body roll, very reliable

Weakness:

not a great engine, low quality materials, rattly

This car's pretty much what you'd expect for a compact econo. The engine's not that great and it's kind of noisy accelerating, but it gets you where you need to be. Also when the AC's on, the engine has almost no pickup. Head and leg room is pretty scanty- especially in the backseat but that's okay because one, i'm driving and two, i'm short! Space can definitely be an issue on long trips though. My little saturn's been very reliable over the past 6 years. I've only had to take it into the shop for tune-ups and stuff. Inside my car the materials are kinda crappy, but they haven't fallen apart...yet! Sometimes when i'm stopped, the doors rattle but thats also because of the low-quality plastic.
well that's my car!

Strength:

Good Handling and Tracking. Good Power if used right. Very reliable

Weakness:

Manual shifter is tempermental. On good days like grease. On bad day, clunks into first gear.

Basics are there. Saturn just need to pay attention to detail.
Paid 15 grand new. Would gladly have paid 16 grand, if they had struts to hold both the trunk lid and doors on hills. Also if if had smoother controls.

Recommend for a cheap sports sedan. SL2 model defintely worth the extra money over SL1.
