Strength:

Great gas mileage,cheap for a good car....EVERYTHING!

Weakness:

None, unless your a really tall person..its too small for you

I bought this car in february 2005,loaded w/power everything, power sunroof, spoiler,cd player(not a bad sound system),with approx. 29,000 miles on it-not bad,and I love it!The saturn dealer even dropped the price about 1,000 bucks when the payment came back and I told them no thanks. For a cheap car,it runs rather nice, yeah it may not be as smooth riding as others, but again,it's a cheap car..you cant expect nothing to be wrong with it.It gets great gas mileage,i now have going on 72,000 miles on her and she still runs the same as the first day I got her. The only thing I've taken it in for (besides oil changes) was for my sunroof motor,it went out and my window was stuck open. This was 2 months after I bought it,saturn fixed it for FREE they had to replace the hole deal,window,switch,motor...they said they couldnt get the motor alone...and keep in mind I bought this car used w/no warranty. My sales guy was the one who authorized it to be replaced free of charge,he said the motor had to of already been going out and he would take care of it.I was totally suprised,I called expecting they'd maybe give me a break on the price or something...but I didnt expect them to fix it for nothing, they even washed my car! They've always treated me nice and I get my oil changed there because I trust them, they look over my car each time to make sure nothings wrong, and they hand wash it...and it's their car,so they know it.I am not the best with keeping up with maitenence, and I've beat on her pretty good,my sons banged my doors into the garage so many times....but you can't even tell and I put ATLEAST 80 miles on her 5-6 days a week, and thats only if I go to work and no where else.Dent resistent, but I hear it's expensive to replace if you need to.My next car WILL be another saturn, thinking about trading her in soon before I put too many miles on,they're not worth much with a ton of miles, but its the best damn car I've ever owned. If your reading these because your thinking about getting one...GO TO A SATURN DEALERSHIP TO PURCHASE IT.They are great with figuring out financing, they send out to 5 different banks/financial institutions and show them all to you,and choose the best one.And because Saturns are supposed to have such great safety ratings, the insurance is cheaper compared to a similar car with not such great ratings. They even sent me a giant box filled with cookies and breads after I bought it,I did not expect this kind of treatment when buying a used car.

Strength:

Affordable. Reliable. Factory speakers have a nice bump. Leather seats are a plus. Nice size trunk. Clean exterior. Lovely ride.

Weakness:

I hate the way Saturns are shaped. CD player won't work, always an error message. The compartment in the middle is irritating. It sits over the parking break so you have to reach. Cup holder is on compartment which is even more inconvienient.

Haven't had this car long, but it is a wonderful little ride.(literally) It is a bi t cramped at times but it runs great. Not too fast though, you have to take it easy. Overall a good buy.

Weakness:

Service Department hard-sell, lack of action on Saturn's part and apparently problem with fuel injectors that need a $120 service with every other oil change. As of late, the Saturn service departments I have visited for an oil change (last 3 times I've walked out) have insisted that if I don't have their $120 fuel injector cleaning service on every other oil change that I won't get good gas mileage, the engine will lock up, and the gas pedal will stick down (causing an accident by sticking down). They also stated that AAA recommends this - a call to AAA gets that AAA recommends dropping a $5 bottle of ***brand name*** fuel injector in the tank every once in a while. Emails to Saturn's customer service have given the response that the dealers can recommend what they want to. Based on this service and the possibility that something may occur where I have to deal with these dealerships, I will avoid GM and Saturn.

Saturn itself is inexpensive, drives well and gets good gas mileage. As of the last few years, the service departments I have visited have become rather predatory (I walked out the last 3 times I went for an oil change and then stopped going to them).

Manual Transmission Gas Economy Fun,fun,fun

Weakness:

Bad aluminum head design was the cars undoing.

I bought my 1995 Saturn SL 1 brand new. I loved it right away. I had 11 repairs under the warranty. Most were the fault of the dealership, their mistakes fixed over and over. They were crappy. I put 240000 kms of it with only one brake job, one set of tires, and no manual clutch replacements. The car was a work horse but fun to drive and cheap, cheap, cheap on gas. Way over 40 mpg. I am replacing it with another Saturn, an 2002 SC. Buying it used. Talk to you again in 240000 km.

Excellent gas milage (45 with the air on) Very, very low monetary upkeep! Very, very reliable

Weakness:

Small size. Rides low to the ground.

I purchased my 97 SL1 with 53000 kms. It was fully outfitted with power sun-roof, power windows, locks, cruise and automatic. I recently gave the car to my daughter. It has 295,000 on it and works like a charm. In all that time, I don't think I've put in more than 3000 in repairs and 1000 of that was to replace a sun-roof. Of the 2000, most was average wear including a few sets of tires and brakes. In all that time, I haven't replaced the CV joints yet!!! I just had the car saftied and e-tested and it passed with just another brake job. The car was built to replace the Japanese imports. Lemonaid claims that it fell short but I can honestly say that it has been the best car I have ever owned. My wife drives a 95 SL1 and just replaced it. It has 240000 kms. She recently purchased an 02' SC1. We are confident it will perform the same as our other 2 Saturns. I replaced my 97 with an Olds Alero (see review). I commute and wanted to drive something with a little more size and power.

Reliability.

Weakness:

Not a luxury vehicle, but is very reliable.

I have owned only foreign cars previous to this vehicle. While this vehicle was a no frills purchase it gave me no problems for the 150,000 miles I drove it. I treated it like crap because I was too broke to afford regular maintenance. I often went more than 10k miles w/out changing the oil. I only had a minor problem with the wipers not working which was fixed for under $100. Saturns reliabity rivals the japanese imports. I have also had 2 friends with similar mileage on their Saturns and they havent had any problems either.

Weakness:

interior doesn't hold up to well brakes go out too quick

I had my Saturn for about 3 years. I have about 162,000 miles on it and it is now starting to burn a little oil. The service engine soon light comes on ever so often. For all of the beating and two tracking I have taken this little car through, it has held up rather well. There are a few things I need to replace on it like; muffler bracket, drums, rotors, brake pads, struts, mounts, etc. It is losing some of its gas mileage due to the lack of maintenance on my part. But other than that it is still an excellent car. As far as finding parts in my area, it is very difficult to find anything for it without having to go through the dealership.

The body not being made of metal, and the sound system that come stock sucks.

BOught the car second hand runs well and I have only had one major problem which was a crack in my radiator. I also have a left front speaker that cuts in and out but that is no big deal.

Great Air conditioner, sound system, and the exterior is really resiliant. Great gas mileage

Weakness:

everything else on the car is prone to being a weakness

I bought this car brand new in 2002. Two weeks after purchase the breaks went out-do to a hose? They replaced my breaks and about 2 months later my service engine light began to come on, its to the point now that I dont even notice it. My car has been an extremely big ANNOYANCE to me. I have had everything tear up at least once. I have replaced the engine which cost me 1100.00 (used engine) the alternator $65, the wiring brackets $60, pulley in the alternator $165, 2 vaccuum hoses $50,tires 2x $280/set, the entire wiring system in my rear tail lights $300, new wheel bearings $100, the secondary exhuast system $35(mechanic cut a deal), and other minor repairs. Overall my car has not been driven more than it has due to the repairs that have had to be made to it. I have not over used my car, it just seemed to go bad starting the day I drove it off the lot. Customer service @ the dealership was great but it does no good when they aren't backing a good car.

My brother had the same year/model car, only difference his was straight shift. He didnt encounter all my problems b/c he had an accident-hit a ditch head on and flipped the car over. Needless to say his air bags did not deploy even after the head on collision with an embankment and a ditch.

The CD player that I had installed on my own.

Weakness:

Too many to list.

This car is a pile of junk! Since I have purchased this car, I have put well over 3000 above regular maintenance costs. First, the radiator cracked, then the engine started leaking oil, the AC went out, the power windoes stopped working, the interior light stopped working, now its burning oil at a rapid pace...not to mention that the "Service Engine Soon" light is on soo frequently that I just ignore it now - apparently its due to some hose that keeps disconnecting itself. Oh, did I mention the brakes that suddenly went out, without warning. Every mechanic I have taken it to, say this is pretty common for this year/model of Saturns. What a huge disappointment! I take it in for regular maintenance, and I have never been hard on it...but, now it sits as I save up for the most expensive repair - a new engine!!
