Strength:

Good gas mileage, like the dent resistent side panels, Good saftey features for the price

Weakness:

hard to get in and out, loud engine, engine sparks knocks, too small for a family of 4

This car has 125,000 hard miles on it, We have kids that play alot of sports. The car has been pretty reliable but has started to show signs of trouble. The engine is smoking and is using a quart of oil every 400 miles. very disapointing because we have taken very good care of the car with all the propoer maintance. Including oil changes every 3000 miles. I not so sure i would reccomend this car. The new ones might have better quality. But it does what it is suppose to cheap transportation at a good price. We will propably replace the engine and let our daughter drive because the Saturn has a very good saftey record.

Strength:

decent pick up for a small engine, hanndling, tire size compared with most competition.

Weakness:

build quality for some reason looks worse than on the older sl2s. the sc2 and ls cars are probably built better. suspension is tight compared to corollas and sentras but has better cornering. i guess this is why the sl2 comes with a sport tuned suspension.

i paid $15,200 for the saturn before taxes. they should get rid of the no haggle crap. the sales service is very good they spent about 3 hours with me. if youre looking for a car with near class leading pickup and good handling this car is a good choice. if you want better build quality and a refined ride and sluggish handling get a corolla. both cars are in the same ballpark when it comes to price depreciation, but few american economy cars can compre with japanese eco car workmanship.

nissan sentra 99 gxe...the saturn can kill the sentras pickup, especially at 2500 to 4500 rpms. saturn surprisingly has a lot smoother upshifting than a sentra which had pretty constant shift shock. the sentra felt like a little minivan the way it handled tight turns. both cars steering is pretty similar, the saturns is just speed sensitive.

Strength:

I like the sunroof and the stereo has a very good sound quality.

Weakness:

everything else

I would never recomend this car to anyone. My used "End of the Line" 91 Ford Tempo ran better than this. Saturn advertises that they thave the only automatic transmission car that you can tow. If that's so, then why is it that after 5 years I need to put a new transmission in it? And that would cost me anywhere from $1,600 for a salvaged one from a junk yard to $2,500 for a brand new one. I have taken it in religiously every 3000 miles for it's check-up also. It also does have a loud engine, that's why I said the stereo was good. There is no room in the car for long trips especially for four adults. If you're like me and you want a vehicle to tow behind your RV, save yourself the hassle and buy a manual transmission car.

Strength:

Performance, Looks, Reliability and is fun to drive.

Weakness:

The Interior could be larger.

Paid appox. $16,000, The best car I ever owned. The 124 hp dohc engine is smooth and the performance is very good. The ride is nice and it is very reliable. I have over 168,000 miles on the car and it still runs well. Whatever parts I had to replace (which were few), was done after the 100,000 mile mark. I would recommend a Saturn and I am buying another Saturn very shortly.

Strength:

Plastic side panels offer great protection vs. dings and rust. Reliable. Traction Control with ABS(great on slick roads). Safe!

Weakness:

Not standard wiper blades (need to get from dealers).

Paid $5,500 used. Is now at 130,000 and still smooth. Grips and handels well. I get only about 32 miles/gallon now compared to the 35 I had two years ago. I will be a repeat buyer.

Strength:

Price, gas mileage, Insurance rates.

Weakness:

Poor pickup especially entering interstates with a/c on. Rattles. Occasionally get a shock when exiting the car.

Paid around $14,000 pretty much loaded, had the car for 2 years & no problems other then having the AC recharged(free)
The car has been driven to Florida twice, rear legroom is becoming a problem(kids are growing & starting to complain)
pickup is slow but keeping pace at 70 mph was no problem with more to spare. Not a bad car, I have no complaints, anyone looking for a good car with a low sticker should consider this one.

Strength:

Low initial cost
Good gas mileage

Weakness:

Sub-standard brakes
Noisy engine and poor engine mounts causing vibrations
Bi-monthly need to replace parts ast the car enters its 6th year

There are so many great cars - ones that seem to cater to those on a budget, but want quality and a longterm reliability - that I'd pass on another Saturn.

The car had zero defects when purchased new in 1994 which was great. The brake rotors soon warped (10k miles) and continued every 10k miles until we purchased aftermarket rotors(we still have 'em on 4 years later). The front end rattled from day one (within spec according to the dealer) and now the struts and engine mounts must be replaced....

Strength:

Like the Dent resistive panels and paint. Engine compartment easy to access for minor repairs and service. Looks like a nice car for the price.

Weakness:

This car is loud, uncomfortable and hard to get in and out of. Quite a bumpy ride.

We bought our Saturn for about 14k in 1995. Since then this car has been a nightmare for our family. At 75,000 miles it developed a serious appetite for oil (about a quart per 700 miles). Though Saturn has offered to put forward 500$ for repairs the expence for needed work amounts to around 2500$. We have also had several other repairs that have cost much time and money in fixing. Though my parents and and friend bought a Saturn from my initial positive comments, I wound not recommend this car to anyone unless you have excess money and time to burn. The company has hyped this car well through their advertising, but it really is a cheap car that will not last long. Thanks for your time.

Strength:

Good gas milage, decent headroom. The service from Saturn has been excellent. Any time there has been any minor problems the dealership has taken care of it quickly. Pretty inexpensive car to take care of.

Weakness:

the clips keeping the visor intact have failed numerous times. cheap plastic parts tend to break, retaining clips for seatbelts have had to been replaced. trunk lid clip needs to be tightened constantly, same with antennae. sunroof leaks a bit every once in a while also.

great car for the money, it's not a looker, but has performed well for many years. holds value well also. last look at bluebook was 9k for the condition of this model. 18K new.

Weakness:

Brakes, engine noise, A/C, space, rattles everywhere...

Saturn hasn't changed the design of their car over the years, except to add some sound insulation. The engine sounded like it would need a valve job soon at 50,000 miles so I traded it in.
