Strength:

great gas mileage on the interstate, very responsive

Weakness:

too small (I'm little 5'4"), no accessories...not even power windows/locks, too light for windy days, and all the problems listed above.

This car is probably on of the worst cars I've ever owned. It leaks transmission fluid and oil. The cv joints creak. The ac doesn't work. When I brought it home from the dealer I looked at the entire engine, covered with grease. I have grease all over the back of my car from the exhaust. And more problems. I think the only thing that's good about the car is the gas mileage, and the way it goes when i press on the gas. i definitely got a lemon and paid too much for it.

Extremely reliable, solid, great mileage, runs very smooth.

Weakness:

If you are looking for luxury of fancy electronics, this is not the care for you

I love this car. The Esteem is a good solid reliable car that has never ever let me down. Mine is now 9 years old and has 110,000 miles on the clock - it still runs like a new car. I bought it used two years ago and changed the belts and battery and had a very minor fix on the axle. I was worried how it would handle the winter, but other than these expected fixes, I have had no problems whatsoever.
This is a super dooper car.

transmission

Just thought I'd balance all these rave reviews with my experience. Bought this wagon for $8500 in 2003, w 70000 kms on it. It was the only 4 cylinder standard wagon I could find, liked the size and look, so settled for it in spite of finding it a bit gutless.

Since that time I have put over $5000 into it - transmission rebuilt twice, clutch replaced once, and numerous miscellaneous problems - starting motor, alternator, Cv joints. It's now in the shop again for what I thought was a clutch job - which it was, but caused by a failed seal in the (3rd) transmission - so to get that back on the road will be another $1500 - am approaching having paid as much in repairs as for the car. I hasten to add that I have owned 3 standards before and NEVER had clutch or transmission problems - otherwise I might have thought it was my driving.
Now maybe I just have a lemon, but another friend with this year and model just replaced their transmission too.
So take thios into consideration before buying this car - I certainly will never buy another suzuki, and it's looking like cliff time for this one.

Model Reviewed: esteem wagon glx

Strength:

Very nice ride. I love all the standard options with the glx. Only thing I'd like is CC. Heater and AC are really powerful. I love that the peak torque is at 3500rpms. It allows for nice off-the-line and solid passing capabilities compared to any other 95 HP car out there.

Weakness:

It'd be nice to have a bit more HP, but it's enough for most purposes.

I love this car. My dad bought it for me and him to drive. Mainly me, but he uses it whenever he doesn't want to drive his porsche. Before I go further I just wanna say something about someone else's comment. Someone said the car's top speed was 85 mph. This is completely wrong. The speedo only goes to 90, but believe me, this little beauty goes 100+. And I have the 1.6L! I love the turning and handling. So fun to drive. Some people end up haveing issues with theirs, but that's just bad luck. I've seen way more positive reviews than bad reviews. THe 6-disk CD changer is nice, but the speakers are a bit lacking. Also, the clips/locks or whatevr that hold the rear seats unfolded rattle a bit and any usually tiny car noises seem to be amplified by the wagon's cargo area. But if you are listening to music or have the windows down you'll never notice.

Strength:

gas mileage, reliability, hatchback is great.

Weakness:

lacks power, AC system, crank windows (YUCK!), rough ride.

So far this car has been well worth the price I paid for it. It has been very reliable, the only problem has been with the Air conditioner. I replaced it when I first bought it and now it needs a new one again after only a year and a half. I havent heard much about others having this problem though. Its not the most luxurious car in the world but hey you get what you pay for. What this car lacks in style it makes up in reliability!

Strength:

MPG, styling, size is great esp for my line of business,

Weakness:

Stereo it's a nice system but, if you listen to a lot of dance and techno you will swap out the speakers like I had to do.

I would have never thought I would sing the praises of a Suzuki in my life... Nor would I thought I would end up owning two of them. I own a small business and needed a new wagon for myself and looking at this and that dealerships. Then on one afternoon I saw the local dealership had an ad in the paper for there wagons for 13k. Which was about 4 grand less than what I was looking at... I swang by later that afternoon to look over one. I was amazed by the lines (I know this is starting to sound like I'm making them out to look like a Ferrari which they arent') but for what I payed for it I don't think it looks half as cheap as a Focus wagon. I took it for a 10 mile test drive and was really amazed but the power put out by the 1.8 liter. I walked back into the dealership and told him I would take it for 12 grand with the promise that if I liked it I would buy another one within 3 months... So now I own two of them. The one I bought that after noon now has 105000 miles on it with in 2.5 years. I have never had any issues with anything.. I only change the oil in it about every 5k miles. It's still as peppy as the day I bought it. The only think I have ever had an issue with is the front seats. But, considering I use to commute about 3.5 hours 4 days a week... Just about any cloth seat becomes a little uncomfortable. If your a commuter you will truely love the MPG. I usually get about 42 highway and about 35 city.

Strength:

Not a bad looking car. Eager to please (although lacking in power). Very responsive. Sounds great w/ custom exhaust. Very fun to push to its limits.

Weakness:

-Lack of power -Cheap interior

I've had my Esteem for about two and a half years. I love driving it around. Virtually trouble free ( had to replace the O2 sensor). I first got it back in January, 2001 with 36K miles, and now, September, 2003, it has 80K on it, and still no big problems. I've but aluminum wheels on it, which really enhanced the appearance. I also but a Magnaflow muffler-less exhaust on it. It had a deeper tone than I had expected and definitely turns some heads. Love the gas mileage, but the car is a little too "cute" for a big guy like me. All my girl friends love it though. I've also removed all the badging from it so no one really knows what it is, and I have many people ask me.

Model Reviewed: Aerio SX

Strength:

Standard equipment is very nice on base model. SX model is loaded for a small car. All-Wheel Drive on the Aerio works great, even in deep snow. 6 disc in dash cd never skips a beat. Very smooth shifting automatic.

Weakness:

Reliability unknown Too many rattles from doors Digtal gas gauge never stays of full for more than two miles Drivers seat needs to go back more

Have had this car for a little over four months and am very pleased with the performance so far. I like the factory 15" wheels but I just installed 17" racing wheels and it looks pretty sweet. I had a few initial problems with the car, like the hood was dented(dealer replaced)and I blew a tire(roofing nail), and my service engine soon light came on at just 4,000 miles(went of the next day), but hopefully i'm out of the water with the problems. The car is very unique looking and appears small from the outside, but they say different is better. The digital dash is cool,as well as all the power equipment and the racy red isn't too sore on the eyes. I was hoping for a little more pep from the 145hp engine(my 2002 Ford Focus gets up and goes faster with only 110hp and doesn't handle as well as the Focus). The Aerio is still a recommended buy from me.(I've only seen about four total of these cars in person so far)
