I just thought that I would write a favorable comment on this nice ''Small Size'' Car! It''s great!! Although I can''t seem to find any Accessories for it, I''ve made good with the new Sound System, and Wheels and Tires. There''s a Spring Lowering Kit, but I have yet to invest in it. The car is very ''Efficient'', and have hauled ''many'' things with it (like large Furniture Boxes from Ikea, etc.). This car has it''s place, even though I wanted it for the obvious reasons (hauling things, at times) and also because it looks nice with my Suzuki Motorcycle (...and ''Yes!'' they''re both Red!)Thanks for listening!

Strength:

Sporty, speedy and very econimical.

Weakness:

Factory sound. I hope I never get hit by some of the tanks out on the road these days!

This has been a great car. The gas mileage is the best. I pull up the gas pump at the same time that someone is filling an SUV and they can''t believe that it no time I''m full and on my way for about $10. I took the bottom of the back seat out and folded it down so that the entire back is flat. It works great for hauling my golf equipment and other things. I had the factory AC installed and it works great.

Strength:

Forged internals on the older DOHC GTi motors make for a very strong long last

Weakness:

not a luxury car, don''t think of it as one.

I''m sure I could write the definitive novel on Swift review and guide-lines. I''ve owned every model old, new, 3 cyl. 4 cyl., and created the worlds largest discussion group for these cars which has been going strong for over two years and is now over on EZboard (to help those who have one http://pub83.ezboard.com/bteamswift ) These cars aren''t all about power options and luxury. They are meant to live long, and provide a cheap form of transportation. Stuff you might want to know... the 4 cylinder block in the new body Swift is the same 4 cylinder block Suzuki put out more than 12 years ago in the base model Swifts and DOHC model GTis (designated G13B). The crankshaft, and connecting rods are forged on the previous GTi DOHC model. Although the block design is essentially the same and as strong on either model. Both are ready to handle years of abuse and steady service these cars can provide. The older 3 cylinders suffer from a poorly designed cylinder head, but the block closely resembles that of the 4 cylinders... minus 1 cylinder of course. Newer 4 cyls? The head design was changed to accomodate multi-port fuel injection on the newer SOHC models, as well as direct-fire ignition, and a MAP sensor instead of the former restrictive Mass-Air-Flow sensor. Other changes from old to new are minor. The change in body style being most of it, and more weight than the older models. Keep in mind that in that with the added weight, comes extra sound deadening and safety. longevity. My brothers 91 GTi- original motor and 280,000kms until written off in accident. A local 89 GTi owner - original stock motor and 270,000kms with over 6 years of Nitrous Oxide abuse, as well as 6 years of auto-cross events. My 89 GTi- 200000+ kms with regular nitrous use past year. My 1998 Swift 4 Cyl. SOHC. bought with only 17,000kms, now at 50,000kms with no work needed. Used Swift shopping- cam-shaft, crank-shaft oil seals may be leaking on a 200,000+kms motor. With regular driving, the clutch is likely to need replacement around the 200,000-260,000km mark. Drive-shafts, ball-joints, should be fine but are worth a look. Synchros on high mileage transmissions. good car for the buck. I can be reached as well as hundreds of other Swift owners on the TeamSwift forum hosted on EZboard. -Cheers

Model Reviewed: Suzuki swift GT

Strength:

Extremely fast for the 100hp Suzuki has it rated at. Very reliable car.

Weakness:

People laugh at you when you say you drive a swift.

I bought this car at $2500 certified and have had it 4 years now and the only maintnence was a new muffler, new timing belt(recommended to change every 100k Km), and regular oil changes. Car is great on gas and does mid 15''s on 1/4 mile. Not bad for a 1.31L DOHC engine. My car has 267k kilometres on it and is still going strong though the left CV joint needs to be changed soon. The car is very fast, great when you need to pass that slow fully tuned honda civic that is in your way. I am currently looking for another Suzuki Swift GT to buy as mine is getting too old for my cmfort, but still to this day I have had 0 problems with it.

Strength:

Fuel economy, very well made cheap car

Weakness:

The bloody water coming in through the drivers window when the wiper washers are used

I love this car, my other vehicle is a 92 jeep YJ and it is getting hard to drive the jeep, almost have to remind myself it needs a run. This swift is a pleasure to drive and burns virtually no gas. I do a lot of highway driving and what the swift saves on gas makes up for the virtually interest free financing. I''m getting a free car and it is a GOOD one

Strength:

STRONG Long lasting small 1.3 l 4 cylinder. Peppy and economical, never let me down. I drive this car every where.

Weakness:

Some interior parts not long lasting. Carpet, seat, door handle snapped.Bought replacements at used parts depot. NO big deal, iam 6ft2 and dont know my own strenth.

Great car better than a Toyota Corolla in terms of repairs. 1 brake job,1 clutch,4 new tires, timing belt replaced 12000 kms (normal preventive maintence) Car now has 150000 kms bought used with 43000 kms. Only real repair was transmission problem at 45000 kms(warranty) Previous owner must of taught their kids to drive a standard with the car.

Strength:

Good mileage, very peppy for a 1.3L 4cyl. Great heater =P. Handling is good. For the price (even new...), incredible value.

Weakness:

Steering column switch assembly needs replacing every couple years. Wiring near clutch hits my foot every time (and it''s starting to get frayed...wipers are intermittently working). Uncomfortable seats and bad fogging. Shifts on mine are hard to get smooth, could be the new clutch, was not as bad with the old one. Loud. Speedo only goes to 150km/h (pinned it many times mind you...)

Great car, still gets >500km/tank after about 300000km on it. No major repairs apart from clutch and timing chain.

Similar Products Used:

VW Golf (88)...not bad, auto, weak acceleration. 2001 Mazda Protege (better in every respect...quiet and very fast, very very comfy)...love the clutch/tranny on this car.

Strength:

Small Size, Hatchback, Good on gas.

Weakness:

don''t put any-thing but napkins in the door panels...when you roll the windows, you''ll scrape your knuckles.

1 year to the week and over-all I am very happy. I had my choice of Red or Red and that is the last color I wanted-" you know the whole ticket thing" But the size is not very threatening, so I have yet to get a ticket. You might have to get used to not seeing a hood. When you first drive it, you have a funny sensation that your feet are going to scrape the street. Not as easy to parallel park as I thought. Parking can be a premium out in Ca. and I am never with-out a space in this thing. Gas is excellent, I am making the payment on what it cost to run my Van. Not so Fast in the first and second gear, but very peppy by the third and fourth " Hey we all need to slow down alittle any-way" And I just love being in front of some Big a-- SUV, it really pisses them off. I actually moved out of my storage unit, one small load at a time. If the economy gets really bad, I am going to take out the Passenger seats sleep in it. GOODLUCK

Strength:

Hard to find any...great because then you wont be tempted to buy one !

Weakness:

I can honestly and whole-heartedly say everything...from the seats to the motor(oil leaks up the wahzoo) electrical. Make sure you have a great life insurance policy, if you ever get hit in this car...it folds like a guy with big ear-lobes fighting Mike Tyson !

After dealing with this...ahem..so called car...for more than 2 years I can honestly say that I am glad it died ! It was noisy, the 3speed could barely do 55Km/h without sounding like I was doing some sawmill work. The interior noise was unbelievable. The construction is so flimsy that the metal door was actually "cracking" around the door lever. If you buy one, make sure you dont slam the door...it can actually throw off the door alignment so bad you have to take it too a shop. Personally I would say avoid this car at all costs....not a good used car...not a good car period...oh yah and if you actually like heat in the winter...this car is definately not for you ! The heater is so inadequate I think the snowmen were actually laughing at me bundled up in it ! Oh yah and avoid JD Byrider or Mac James Motors at all costs....they just love to charge 28% to people with less than perfect credit....there are other places out there to get a car if you have bad credit...make sure you look around!

Strength:

small Size, simplicity of construction (less to go wrong), reliability, economic to drive, good visibility, good head room, shifts well, is sufficiently "peppy".

Weakness:

Bouncy, hard to get into back seat, a bit slow compared to other cars.

The Swift is a good car. it is easy to drive, is amzingly large (for its size) inside, goes a long ways on just a little bit of gas, and is even fun to drive. I rear-ended while sitting still in a Metro (Swift clone) by a BMW 323 going >50 MPH, and was not injured at all, even though both cars were totaled. Suzuki engineering kept me alive. Bought a Swift as soon as the insurance check came in.
