Problematic engine components

From other web review sites this car can go either way: no problems or problematic. Mine is very problematic. The engine light constantly lights up after ECM reprogram, ECM replacement, O2 sensor replacement, MAP sensor replacement, etc. Things are NOT looking any more rosy since Suzuki dumped the whole Verona line.

Very posh and comfortable. Nice ride. Comfortable and quiet.

Weakness:

Problems with the transmission already, and it only has 30,000 miles. I have a feeling the transmission will have to be replaced early on. Electrical problems in the stereo.

Pretty nice car for the price. Very lush on the inside, with lots of extra gadgets. It's an extremely quiet ride, comparable to the Toyota Camry. Mine is the V6, which has a lot of acceleration to it. However, the transmission takes a few seconds to kick in, so it's kind of scary to pull out into traffic sometimes. We have had problems with the transmission slipping, which the dealer claims to have fixed but we keep having to take it back in. Also, the stereo has controls on the column, and the electrical wiring to that has shorted out, causing our entire stereo to quit working. The dealer had to replace the entire stereo, and it took them a month to get the parts in.

Strength:

Classy interior design and smooth luxurious ride. Plenty of performance for a 4 door sedan and descent gas mileage.

Weakness:

The shifting of the 4 speed automatic transmission has delays between gears, however if you press the "Hold" button and shift through the automatic shift-gate style shifter, the performance is much better and the delay between gears is gone.

This is an awesome sedan and priced much less than Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. While the Mazada 6 in my opinion is in a different class than the Verona, I like the low monthly payments based off the lower price of the automobile.
The inline DOHC 6 cylinder is smooth and very quite; with only 155HP you might think the performance would suffer, but not the case! This car has more torque (177 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm) than sedans of this class that offer a higher HP rating, so you do not really see a lack of performance.

Camry, Accord, Mazada 6 all very good automobiles, but priced much higher than the Suzuki Verona and honestly, I don't think they warrant the higher prices.

Strength:

Quiet and smooth running engine, comfortable ride, great warranty, a lot of features for your money compared to other cars in the same category.

Weakness:

Gas mileage is not too great. Acceleration is not the best from a stand still.

After owning many Suzuki motorcycles for the past thirty years I was interested in the Suzuki Verona when it first came out. After driving one I was impressed with the look, feel, and quality of the car. At the same time I was considering a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. I know they are both good automobiles and I would enjoy either of them. However, the Verona had a better warranty and much more equipment for thousands of $$$ less. I was initially concerned about the window sticker EPA gas mileage figures of 20 and 28. This has been my only complaint. However, recently I got nearly 30 mpg on a 300 mile trip. I usually get 21-23 around Savannah. The performance of the car has improved over time and I love the smoothness and quietness of the inline six cylinder engine. It actually develops 2 fewer horsepower than the 2004 Camry with its 157 hp four cylinder engine. However, the Verona has more torque than the Camry and has plenty of acceleration for passing out on the highway. At first I was irritated by the hesitation between shifting gears in the transmission, but this has also improved with more miles on the car. Overall I am very impressed with the comfort, performance and workmanship of the Verona. It is a very well built car. It has little touches, such as chrome and wood grain looking trim on the interior that you won't find on the base Camry or Accord. It also has 16" alloy wheels, fog lamps, automatic climate control, and ABS on the LX and EX models for less than you would pay for a Camry LE without these things. There have been two recalls, which were taken care of very quickly and efficiently by two different dealers. (I have moved, so wasn't near the purchasing dealer for the second recall.) The first recall was to replace the ECU (engine control module). This is what caused the car to run rough when first starting it in the morning, and also caused a pulse in the engine at lower cruising speeds. This has been completely cured by replacing the ECU. The second recall was to replace a brake light switch that could cause the brake lights to remain on after letting up on the brakes, especially if your foot accidentally slipped off the pedal while applying the brakes. I don't think this ever happened on my car, but it was fixed anyway under the recall program. Overall I am very pleased with the Suzuki Verona. It is a pleasure to drive and in my oppinion is a very good looking car. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a car of this size and price range. You get a lot for your money, plus a very good warranty-- 7 years and 100,000 miles, road side assistance, and a loaner car if yours has to be in the shop for repairs under the warranty or a recall. Check it out. It's worth your time. Suzuki has a reputation for reliability. I have owned quite a few of their motorcycles and have never had a serious problem with any of them.

Elegant Looks, Most features standard, smooth inline engine

Weakness:

Heavier Car, slighly slower acceleration, Unknown resale value.

Terrific Value.... I chose this Car after a god deal of research. After enjoying a Nissan Maxima 1993, it was time to buy a new car. Armed with a limited budget, I looked at 2 year old Camry and Accord. I test drove them and found a lot of problems. New Accord that was fully loaded cost much more. I test drove and found a very good option in Verona. Now the car has 1800 miles. Here is how it performs. 1. Engine: Verona has a 2.5 L Inline. The Engine produces a max Hp of 155. This seems less than some 4 cylinders made by Toyota and Honda. But the Car's 177 Nm Torque pulls the car well over hills and slopes. The 155 HP perhaps results in slighly slower acceleration than other similar cars. This however does not pose a serious problem in accessing interstates on ramps or passing. The Inline engine is very smooth and works quite silently with some noise when the pedal is pushed far. On city roads the Car runs smooth as silk.Buyers should know that Verona takes 7 QUARTS of OIL!!! It gives a decent 20 mpG on city roads and 26 MPG on highway. I do wish Suzuki improves the mileage for the 155HP it gives. Handling: The Car feels solid and the speed sensitive steering needs getting used to. After some use you can feel the Car hugging the road, although there is some bank and roll on turns. This is however not uncomfortable. The Brakes feel solid and all Veronas are equipped with 4 disc brakes. The suspension is in between a soft sprung and sport. Long interstate travel is comfortable. The seats are quite comfortable...I dont have leather on the S model. I dont mind the upholstery although many dont like the plush "mousy" feel. Transmission: Verona S is equipped with 4 speed auto. The Trans is based on adaptive computer controls. Believe me ..don't base your opinion solely on a test ride!!. Its 1800 miles now and the trans. is better adjusted to my style of driving and my driving patterns. The shift movement is hardly felt and the trans is fine. I wish they would have a 5 speed auto. Features: The Verona really attracts on the fact that many features seen in luxury cars are standard!!!. The S comes with Power everything , CD cruise and the works. It does not have ABS or Traction control. These are in the EX models I think. The Top models afford leather heated seats and automatic climate control...You can't get another car with these features at the price. Space: Very spacious especially for the rear passenger. I am short --5'6" so there is no problem on headroom. I think very tall guys should check this out on the test ride. Trunk space is good although I find the reduced rear inside space a design problem. Warantee: Suzuki gives 7 yr-100000 miles on trans. 3 yr -36000 on other parts. Lights and electricals: I like the front lights that are latest in design with the double staggered arrangement. The CD and Radio are fine although the initial cars has some problems of electrical noise and had recall notices that I think were attended promptly. Crash Tests: See the IIHS web site for details. The Car does not have side curtain facility and was rated accordingly. Overall: I like the Car very much and find it performing well for going places and work. This is no sports car but fits well into the category of a family car. It is spacious and graceful. I think you should test ride the check out Verona if you are looking for a mid size sedan.
