Strength:

Affordability; looks, handling.

Weakness:

dash board lights. large people in the back seat.

I have never loved a car like this one. Handles very well, the sound is good. And, looks great too. Only problem is the "check engine light". Gas cap thing. Can be annoying.

Strength:

Handling and Style

Weakness:

Poor paint and front design.

I was impressed by the syle, handling and luxury of the Solara, hence my reason for purchasing. What I did not expect was that within 2 months and under 7,000 kilometers the front of my car would look like it was through a battle field. There is an excessive amount of chips on the front of my car which Toyota Canada has attributed to stone chips. If a top end price car can look this bad within a few months then I believe it is a design flaw that should have been discovered a fixed long before it was marketed. At this point I am feeling very disapointed with my purchase.

Strength:

Design/Look Interior room Roomy trunk/pass through Standard Options 4-Cyl handling is strong

Weakness:

Driver's side seat does not slide forward like Passenger's side does Gas cap sensitivity

I have had my Solara for about 7 mos now and I am completely in love with it. Not only is it a beauty to look at, but it handles incredibly. I bought used, with low mileage and so far I have had no real problems. The only thing I have to get used to is making sure the gas cap it TIGHT or else the check engine light will go on. :) Other than that, I have received nothing but compliments, looks great, roomy, comfortable, looks like a luxury vehicle and has the Toyota name and rep, which sold me. I would definitely buy Toyota again and for sure would recommend the Solara to someone looking for a sporty, yet safe and reliable car.

I Love It!!!! What else can I say...I had a 92 Honda Accord before this and was ready to go buy another Honda until I researched the Solara and found that it beat the accord when it comes to safety. Plus I didn't like the new Accord models. When I'm driving I feel like I'm in a Lexus. Smooth, Luxury, and Comfort all in one.

Strength:

I really did love this car. Looked good, very smooth. Good gas mileage

Weakness:

Brake failure resulting in accident

I really did love this car. Looked good, quiet, smooth on the road. It usually handled very well however with just 8,500 miles on the car the brakes failed and I went out into a busy intersetion during morning rush hour traffic. The impact broke the front axle so I cannot prove that the brakes went out before the collision. I do feel lucky I was only hit by one other car and I sustained no injury. I am heartbroken to know that I paid this much for a car and it is now a piece of junk. If any one else has had a problem with their brakes I would like to hear about it. At this point I would like to sue Toyota.

Weakness:

Noisy interior. its not a convertable and i can hear the wind and noise outside very clearly.

1999 Solara SLE V6. better than the Lexus SC coupes. these Toyota's are fully loaded and drive excellent. very impressed with this vehicle. i have tinted the windows to give it that extra WOW appeal. alos, on the interior, which i HIGHLY reccomend, i purchased the 28 piece extended wood dash package.. this makes the interior of the car look incredible and the look of a high priced luxury car. Reliability great! i have about 97,600 miles on mine and it drives like it has 500 miles on it..worth the $$

Strength:

Smoothe ride, surprisingly roomy, plush interior, handling (w/ Michilens), huge trunk, options on the SLE V6. Sweet with the sunroof open and the windows down in the summertime. This 2-door is just great with our 10-month old's car seat in the back.

Weakness:

JBL could use more bounce to the ounce, know what I mean? But it still sounds pretty good. Getting in and out of the backseats could be a challenge for adults, but hey, when we want to haul around grown folks, we just jump in the Maxima.

We have had our SLE V6 for just over 2 years. This car is so smooth, the cabin is very quiet, and the beige leather interior is roomy for a 2-door. The trunk is huge. We call it our L'il Lexus. Ours is pearl white with dark tinted windows, and it is absolutely gorgeous (that wing on the trunk just does it). Others have posted here about problems with this car, but having followed the maintenance schedule, this car has been trouble free (engine/tranny) since we've had it. The only problems being struts that rattle at 40,000 miles, and a driver's side lock that decided to stop working. We'll just have the struts taken care of, and I'll replace the lock myself, and we'll keep on sporting this car. Those who are in the market for a sports car that performs like a BMW or something like that, forget it. This car is for the one who wants a 2-door cruiser. It won't blow anybody away off the line, but it does hold it's own, especially on the interstate against those cute little Civics. I'm in the process of looking for a '02 or '03 model sedan to add to the garage, and out of all the ones I've driven so far, none are as smoothe as our Solara. Test drive this car, if you're in the market, and you'll see. If you purchase this car, just keep up the maintenance (Toyota of Knoxville's prices are some of the best in town), and this car will be good to you.

Strength:

Smooth ride, luxurious interior, good sound system, good brakes, excellent headlights, comfortable seats... I could go on and on.

Weakness:

The door lock button-you have to hold down on it for a second or two, to get it to lock. The remote entry-passenger door sometimes fails to unlock, either that, or it too needs to be held down extra long to unlock second door.

Wonderful car! I test drove two different Lexus models and I can't tell a difference in quality or ride. This is the best car I've had yet.

Strength:

remarkably smooth, great milage, oh so quiet, comfortable

Weakness:

first five weaknesses are the damn PAINT No. 6 - tires & handling

first, it's a black 2000 SE V-6, 5 Speed. - has poor acceleration from a standing start, but smooth and quick from 50 mph. is isolated well from road/tire noise, but the factory tires barely grip the road. is styled nicely - a matter of opinion - but the paint job warrants a recall. is very comfortable for the driver, but a hassle to retrieve something from the back seat on the driver's side. i rate gas milage as excellant - 32 mpg from ny to delaware with a/c on - but i use premium.

Strength:

Interior space, body styling, interior features, trunk space, handling, moderate power (V6 only), no "major" problems with this car.

Weakness:

the paint chips too easily under normal driving conditions, V4 lacks sufficent power for car of it's size, stock Potenza RE 92 tires are junk!!! buzzing noise from rear of vehicle at speeds of 45 mph or more after 20k miles! Call your dealer ASAP if you notice this noise!!!

For the most part the solara is a great vehilcel. it is roomy. it has decent acceleration. the style is favorable. this car was sprung into being by sound engineering. two problems i have encounted are 1.) a low-pitched "buzzing" noise from the rear tires at speeds above 45 mph. after 20k miles the "buzzing" started. even with brand new tires the "buzzing" continues. so i know the souce of this annoyance stems from the car itself. i have yet to take it up with toyota. 2.) the paint in this car chips like a 100 year old pickit white fence. under normal driving conditions, i discover new paint chips all the time! if you have a solara or are thinking about buying one, consider the comments above. furthermore, add the supercharger to increase 270+ HP(V6 only). its $1,970 if you get a deal. get bigger wheels and tires. the stock wheels and tires are junk. just try to accelerate from a dead stop, your frontend will skid and hop around like a little girl thats got to pee. if you can get pass the little problems here and there with the solara, you should enjoy this car for years.
