Strength:

Nice a low speeds around town.

Weakness:

Road noise, handling in the wind.

I just rented a 2007 Corolla LE, drove 500 miles to Reno and back. Good power. It was a windy day and the car was hard to handle at freeway speeds. The engine is very loud with hard acceleration. Why I would not purchase this car. Driving at freeway speeds to Reno and in California over not perfectly smooth surfaces the tire , road and suspension noise is very loud.Stretches of the road to Reno are rough so it was a good road to test the car. Also heavy vibration in the steering wheel. The car is nice around town, on smooth roads , but at a cost of $15k to $18k + I expected a better car.

Excellent gas mileage, fun to drive

Weakness:

It STINKS!

I love my car, however since day 1 when i am stopped at a stop light or in traffic it smells like rotten eggs. From other review sites it looks like a cat converter issue with Toyota. I heard they won't fix it, but going to try. I thought if I just waited until it was broken in it would stop but 50K miles later it's still smelly. AC doesn't blow it's coldest when it's 90 + degrees. Stereo is good, tires are crap had to replace them at 30K miles, replaced the brakes last week other than that pretty low maintenance. Other than the smell, i love it!

Strength:

The outstanding gas mileage is the only reason why I still have this car. There's really no other strength worth mentioning. I will get rid of the car as it approaches the expiration of the full warranty.

Weakness:

I came to the conclusion my car is a lemon. Everytime I drive it, I anticipate something going wrong with it. I bought the car hoping to keep it for the long term, but it has demonstrated it's lemon-like qualities enough for me not to keep it longer than I have to. I will not take it on long trips.
Hopefully it will make it to its warranty period without any other significant issues, when I plan to trade it in.

It seems that Toyota is building these so fast in leu of the high gas prices that it may be affecting quality.

So much for Toyota quality.

I heard that Toyota has a good reputation on quality and with gas hovering around $3.00 a gallon, buying a fuel miser Corolla was such an easy decision.

I am very surprised that I've had three significant issues with the car in first year.

Issue #1) Within days after I drove off the lot, I noticed that the engine temperature guage indicated overheating when I was in bumper to bumper traffic. I immediately took it to the nearest Toyota dealer and was told that the radiator fan fuse or relay was never installed from the factory. The problem was fixed and the engine has not ran hot since. If this was not noticed, it could have caused severe engine damage or failure.

Issue #2) Within 4 months I noticed that the front tires were not wearing evenly and there was excessive wear on the edges. I went back to the dealer and was told that the car needed two new front tires and an alignment. I debated that the alignment must have been bad from the factory since I didn't recall driving over anything significant which would cause a misalignment. To no avail, I was told that I would be responsible for the tires and alignment. Obviously, I took my business elswhere and bought two new tires and an alignment.

Issue #3) I had 15K miles on the car when I noticed the transmission knocking hard when I was driving on the highway. I pulled in the nearest Toyota dealership and was told that I would have to leave the car until they could work on it.
I was initially told that the problem was a faulty transmission relay switch. Two days later I was told that the problem was that the computer module had gone bad and the dealer was having difficulty finding a replacement. The dealer had the car for a week to fix it. Thankfully, it was under warranty since I understand that the replaced parts are very expensive.

I would ordinarily wait to review a car after I had gotten another model, but this Corolla has given me every indication that it is unreliable and not worth recommending. Although I cannot trade it in now, I certainly do not recommend buying one out of warranty.

Strength:

First of all, this car gets AWESOME gas milage. I drive about 60 miles a day to work and back and I feel so spoiled because I'll prolly never get used to anything less than 32 MPG. Its very roomy inside, not at all what you would think a small car would be like. More than plenty headroom and the back seat has ample leg room for a compact. The dash area is good looking and sporty. I like that is has drawer-like compartments for your little stuff. The S has ugraded options, i.e. leather wqrapped steering wheel, shifter, sunroof, spoiler, body kit, power windows & locks. The nice thing about Toyotas is that everything works all the time!

Weakness:

A few weaknesses that I have found are the center console lid is VERY cheap. (It definitely would NOT impact my buying decision though)Thats my only complaint on the inside of the car. As for others saying it is dangerous in the winter or driving in rainy windy conditions. This is PART true. The major reason is the tires. They put Goodyears on there that SUCK! I replaced mine after 40K and now my car drives fgreat in these conditions. So really its not the car its the tires that make it this way.

I love my car!! I read through alot of reviews before actually purchasing my car about two years ago. I owned a 2000 Jeep Wrangler before I got my Toyotie so I wasn't familiar with compact vehicles at all.

Model Reviewed: Corolla DX

Strength:

Reliability; Mileage; Comfort; Power; Availability of aftermarket parts; Compact; Keeps its value

Weakness:

NOT meant for rough drivers; Cheap materials used on door panels and some other interior parts (overall pretty nice, though); Lack of a full-sized spare (a 50mph max speed donut is never a fun thing to drive on); Sometimes fussy in the cold (sticky clutch)

I love my baby 'rolla, she's been a great little car. 12 years and 125k miles and she's still going strong. Very economical car. I have the 5spd manual DX version. Size is excellent, fine for carrying 4 people, great gas mileage, plenty of power w/ the 5spd. This is my first car, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for their first car or for an economical commuter car. 30mpg average is pretty darn nice, I must say. Interior is nice, cheap in some places, but fine for the price.

There's only been a couple downsides to the car, and thats why I have to say this car is not for everyone. First, I've blown out 2 clutches in my time driving - now, either I drive extremely hard or she takes a light touch that I simply don't have. Keep that in mind - if you're gonna be driving hard and shifting hard, don't beat up a poor little 'rolla.

However, the reliability is outstanding. I've put my car through everything and she always comes back for more. While I would never recommend it, she's been over rough dirt roads, into a ditch, and suffered other abuses, but keeps on going. Like I said, she may not be for everyone, but she'll try hard.

She's okay in the snow (she's so light she drives on top of it =P ), but in ice, even with ABS, she's all over the place. Then again, that's the same with just about any light car.... she'll try her best, but there are some things she's just not cut out for.

Overall, the car is outstanding; comfortable to drive, excellent mileage, HVAC systems work well, 5spd manual has acceptable power, and while she's not a do-anything car, she'll hold up nicely. I'm gonna miss my baby, but I'm heading to Rochester NY for college and I don't exactly trust her in the icy cold of the Great Lakes region.

compact easy to drive, gas mileage, great in snow! I can pack a lot of stuff into this car, it amazes people.
great for the commuter, single gal who is not out to impress, college student!

Weakness:

small, no leg room for big people, limited pickup no bells or whistles!! A husband, golden retriever and a 6 year old are cramped!!

I love this car....No major issues ever!!! Well, except that the previous owner was rear ended and that totaled the car, so my dad purchased it and fixed it and called it good (looked like NEW when he finished, there was hardly any damage, but the frame was bent ever so slightly, so his buddy had a frame straightener and presto!)! We have a salvage title so it is not worth selling, but this has been a great car. I have 185,00 miles and still get great gas mileage 28/33. The previous owner unfort. did not change the oil..EVER.... so I do go through a lot of that, not sure where it goes, just drains fast, but other then that and an alternator, nothing has gone wrong on this car. The body is in okay shape, Michigan road cancer has hit the lower part of the exterior rusting from the inside out which stinks, again previous owner did not take care of this car, it was a lease!! I have had it since 1999 with intentions of only having it for a couple of years, which is now going onto 7 years. Best car by far that I have owned. It is boring, and my husband who is a big guy has to cram himself into it, not a pretty sight!! We are looking to upgrade into a Minivan (yikes never thought I would say that!) or a Subaru (more my speed!) We will probably hold onto this car for commuting and such, but for family excursions this is not going to do!

Strength:

It starts everytime as any car with 18,000 miles should.

Weakness:

Fit and finish is poor. Toyota's service and respect for their customer is even worse. Definetly not what I have read about in trade magazines.

I started a new job and was going to be driving 50+ miles one way. Wanted something with good gas mileage. Came down to VW TDI at 50MPG and Corolla at 39MPG. Went with Corolla based on Legendary Toyota quality. Have yet to see anything close to 39 MPG best is 34 on all highway driving. Radio bezel buzzes on acceleration and at highway speeds as do both front doors. The car has more squeaks and rattles than my 97 taurus with 205,000 miles on it. Both foglamp delete panels on the front end have fallen out while driving on the highway. I have bought cars from the big three in the past and have always been treated with respect and fairly in service. I can not say that about Toyota. I have never been treated as poorly as I have by Toyota. They have been arrogant and have hidden behind any technicality they can find in an effort to charge you more money. If Toyota is the last manufacturer on earth I'll walk. Not worth the premium price. Very disappointed overall.

Strength:

Very reliable
Great mileage
Comfortable ride
Well made

Weakness:

Poor performance in wind, snow, and on gravel
Exterior is starting to rust

Great little car, but can be boring to drive as the acceleration is slow. Very reliable. I've owned it for almost 4 years now and have yet to have a problem (that I haven't caused). Roomy interior, comfortable quiet ride, simple.

I would not recommed this car for anyone in the country or who experiences bad winters. This car feels very unstable on bad or gravel roads, at high speeds, and in the wind. It almost feels like it's floating and could be incredibly unnerving for a new driver.

I have gone off the road twice with it. The first time there was 2 inches of slush and lost complete control. The second time I was on a gravel road only going 60km and fishtailed into the ditch. The side impact damaged both rear bearings and they had to be replaced. Because this car is a Toyota, they had to replace the whole bearing assembly, a whopping $500 each. I've had to keep sandbags in the trunk to weight it down since I bought it.

This car has awesome fuel efficiency too.

I'll never own anything but a Toyota.
