VR6 Engine Handling Charm Noise!!!!

Weakness:

Electric rear spoiler prone to breakage and expensive to replace Chews tyres up like you wouldn''''t beleive (although using Goodyear Eagle F1''''s has reduced this)

I''''ve been driving a 2.9 VR6 Corrado for about 18 months now, and I can''''t recommend one enough. The sound of the engine once it gets over 3500 rpm alone is enough to excite a corpse, but the handling that goes with it just electrifies you. I''''ve been told that the G60 supercharged version has some reliability problems, but in my experience, the VR6 engine is bullet proof. This little baby is quick enough to blow away 90% of BMW M3''''s and wil;l beat a few Porsches on the standing quarter. In fact, the car was initially designed to be a Porker, but VW managed to get their hands on it, luckily for us, so the price tag remained reasonable. In summary, this is the closest to a budget supercar you will ever get. Running costs are low, apart from a major service which will cost a packet.

Strength:

92 VR6 Only - No engine governor. Only VR6 with the 91 Dash. Stock BBS Wheels. Only 1500 - 2000 of them where sold in the US in 1992. (Rare) Very smooth, fast , and GREAT handling. Modern look. And believe it or not the rear spoiler does increase stability over 80% at 100 + miles an hour. In my mind - A Classic.

Weakness:

Love chooses to be blind. It was not introduced as a VR6.

Two years ago I owned a 91 Corrado G60. It was a low millege car with only 70K miles on it. I only had it just over one year and it cost me close to four thousand dollars in repairs. I only put ten thousand miles on the car. I was on a limited budget and had to sell the car. (Never wanting to look back) With the money I was saving I purchased a brand new 2000 Jetta for me and a 2000 Cabrio for my wife. Well ... the problem is once you own a Corrado, you are a Corrado owner for life. My wife had some money put aside to put wood flooring in our house. That wood flooring is now a 92 VR6 Corrado. God I love that car!! All you G60 owners need to sell that slow lead slead of a car and get a VR6. The car is AMAZING and I hate to say it,, BUT the G60 does not compare!! The G60 compared to the VR6 is like cutting a steak with a butter knife versus a steak knife. Or eating the steak with or without A1 sauce. I bought the car in mint condition. It is high millege car, but was very well maintained. The first place I took it to was Marty at Mesa West in Costa Mesa. I had come to know him pretty well back in my G60 days. I had him take the car apart and put it back together for me. I''m trying really hard to have at least six months with out a problem. I have in the past worked at Wings West and Camel Back Porsche. I have driven almost everytype of car made. To name a few. 348,355,Lotus World Challenge,Ruff Turbo, Greddy Show Prelude, Civics with over 70k invested in them, and a S4. Guys the Corrado is handles better than a Ruff turbo. It isn''t as fast, but a lot easier and funner to drive. It isn''t my everyday driver because I don''t trust it yet, but I will own this car for the rest of my life. It is my classic and I love it like I do with my wife, faults and all. **Special Note** It was my wifes idea to buy the car!!

Strength:

Power to weight ratio, handling (with good tires), mean sound (it both purrs and growls for attention), hydraulic rear spoiler, and constant second looks from jealous spectators on the road.

Weakness:

Stupid sunroof requires almost monthly lubrication! Stupid cracked foglamps!

THE BEST CAR FOR THE MONEY!! By far. I've owned Scirocco's, Porsche's, Accura's, and a Triumph TR6. A few mod's (wheels, suspension, air filter, and a cpu chip) will make this car eat $30k+ cars alive on the track!! More comments than most other fancy cars, just b/c the VW symbol kinda acts like a peace sign... no one's affraid to approach you, and they are all curious about it! The heated leather seats and rear views are nice in the winter. Very comfortable road car, but with larger wheels and modified suspension it can get a little rough, but worth it for the cornering. Not a car for the light-hearted. Best front-wheel drive ever!!!

Spoilers up!!

supercharged, its german, fast, furious face, excellent looks, electro spoiler (just to name a few).

Weakness:

$450 a month insurence, can't use the word cheap parts and corrado in same sentence, previous owner RAPED the car.

Damn chillin car. I've been around cars ALL my life and there is only one old sports car I would rather have more and that is a 300ZX twin turbo. The corrado has been my 2nd dream car for a long time. In toronto itself there is probably 200 left. Parts are EXTREMELY hard to find around here and since the car was RAPED by the previous owner, most fo the natural factory defects (ie rear brake calipars, door handles)are plaguing the car already. I can predict that there is going to be dark days ahead but no dream is met unpunished. oh if anybody in toronto has a parts car (corrado) writed me.

Weakness:

service epair bills & front foggies (cracked)

Fantastic, i have owned many (fastermore) expensive cars but none come close to the VW Corrado. Originally a Golf Mk1 fan i dreamt of always owning a corrado and finally, realised this not so long ago. 17" alloys and a Sports steering wheel and gearstick this thing is incredible. I defy anything in the price band to beat it round the corners.......... nothing comes close....... as for the bills, the less said about them the better but in truth...... it's worth it.

Strength:

1. Aggresive styling
2. Crisp steering/handling
3. Many aftermarket parts
4. Relatively good performance for the dough.
5. Power sunroof

Weakness:

1. Very poor shifting
2. Many electrical problems (battery, power seat belts, other..)
3. Poor performance when pushed hard
4. Overheats quickly

I purchased my corrado in 1995, and owned it for about a year. I paid $8,000 for it, and it was in very nice condition w/ around 50,000 miles on it. I was very happy with the car at first, but had many problems with the car over a short period of time. I had to have the exaust replaced within a few months b/c it was badly rusted. The battery would go dead every once and a while for no reason, and the power seatbelts are absolute junk. The fit and finish was good, but the car mad more and more noise almost every month. The worst part is the shifting. The cable system VW used on these cars is terrible. A short shift kit is an absolute must if you plan on keeping the car. Overall, I was relatively pleased with the car, it had a good look, was relatively quick, and had some neat gadgets on it. But as far as performance, I will never buy a VW for that purpose again. They can't even compete with a similar priced MR2.

Strength:

- Sweet looks
- Gets attention
- Good handling
- Good performance (also lots of upgrades)

Weakness:

- expensive maintinence
- Old supercharger problems

I have a G60 and it is really great. In the beginning I was jelous of the VR6 but the G60 is much cheaper and the extra money can be used to upgrade it enough to kick any VR6's @ss. Make sure the supercharger is recently serviced on high mileage cars becuase when it starts to loose boost the car becomes very slow. Overall however it is the best car I have ever owned and I will never sell it. Buy one, you will not be dissapointed!

Strength:

Black leather interior,...Easily upgradible to smoke about 98% of all cars om the streets (I am running 200hp @ the wheels) Easy to fix and upgrade yourself (No I am not a mechanic or have ever had to work on a car before this one, I just ask alot of questions and bought the Bently manual {a must}) Excellent looks when dropped and modded.
Probibly won't ever sell-will turn in to autocross car(when I get a WRX).
The best quality in my opinion is that insurance companys don't classify this car as a sports car, only as a sedan, so rates are much, much, much lower than the VR6.

Weakness:

Weird problems (won't start when parked in sun). Does get noisier and noiseir as the miles build. Not very high resell value (but who cares).
People get really, really violently mad when they see a VW make there 20+$ cars look slow.

Smokes : mustanks, older slowmeros, hondas, New grand Prix, VR6's, Neons, camrys, Acuras.......... the list goes on.
If you are a dubber you already have this car.
If you are a dubber and you don't have one-you really want one.

All in all one of the best used compacts you can get to this day.(see review in consumer reports)

Not for: grandma, ricers, country boys
For: me and maybe you.

My Corrado is very fun to drive. I have had it for a year and everyone asks,"What kind of car is that?" Mine only had 69,ooo miles when I purchased it and I've only had to do some minor things to it.

Weakness:

My sunroof is broke. AC doesn't work. And it keeps blowing black smoke all over the bumper. I replaced the 02 sensor and also a water temperature sensor. And they weren't cheap. My gas mileage should be alot better. It is just running too rich

My 1990 corrado still runs good for the money I need to invest in it. It gets me everywhere I need to go. Except in the summer when my fan kicks on and doesn't want to shut off until my battery dies. The parts are cost a little more than most. In my area there aren't any VW dealers or anyone who wants to work on them. No matter what I say I am very glad I bought the car and It will be 10 times better when I put more money into it. I would buy another if anything happened to mine.

It will blow those Hondas out of the water. But I'd compare to some sort of Honda or Toyota.
