Volkswagen Jetta (2005 - 2010) Midsize | Compact

Volkswagen Jetta (2005 - 2010) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The fifth generation Volkswagen Jetta Mk5 debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show on 5 January 2005. One major change to the Mk5 is the introduction of the first multi-link independent rear suspension in a VW Jetta.

Styling reflects a new direction for the Volkswagen brand, with a new chrome front grille, first seen on the Golf Mk5 R32, which has since spread to other Volkswagen models.

The Jetta available in the U.S., is powered by a 2.5 litre 5-cylinder 20-valve engine in most trims. In North America, the Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) diesel engine was not offered in five U.S. states when the Mark 5 Jetta was introduced, due to the tight emission standards promulgated by the California Air Resources Board. In addition to California, four other states adopted the more stringent California standards.

I love this car. this is a follow up review as my first was about 3 days after i got it. since owning this car for over 4 months now, i have become more impressed with it everyday. the handling is wonderful. my vw fox can't keep up even though it has more hp. the faster i go, the better the car sticks to the road. 125 mph? no problem for this car. this car has more torque than a honda s2000, who would complain about that.

Weakness:

the gears are a little mushy but it works for city driving. the alloy wheels are very hard to keep clean.

this car is one of the best i have driven. i get complements everywhere i go. the baltic green color is fantastic! for a TDI, it is very fast. i've beaten cars with twice the hp off the line. i would recomend it to anyone. the only problem i've had was the dealer who sold me the car was lazy and incompitent.

Strength:

Where do I start? So many things about this car make it look expensive. I have to say that the Jetta is a bargain! This car flys! The sport luxury package adds some awesome rims and increased handling. Sometimes, I cannot help but stare at my car. The Galactic blue is an incredible color that gives the appearance of being black at night and glimmering blue during the daytime. The 5-speed transmission is a thing of beauty, hauling the car from 0 to 60 in about 8 seconds. The VR6 engine is an engineering masterpiece. This is a true drivers car. The blue (indigo) and red interior lights are simply pleasant to look at. Finally, the Monsoon sound system lives up to its name. The sound flys at any passenger from all angles with the 8 speaker sound system.

Weakness:

The dust from the brake pads. They turn my rims black, so much for the $10.00 spent at the car wash. Other than that, absolutely nothing to complain about.

Best car for the money. The Jetta stacks up to competitors that are thousands of dollars more expensive.

Simply awesome. Bargain for the price

Weakness:

None so far

Buy one before price goes up even more. This is a great car that can out-perform some of the $30K plus cars out there like the audi a4 or the saab 93, or even the lower end of bmw 3 series.

Model Reviewed: Jetta Wolfsburg 1.8T sunroof and Monsoon stereo

Strength:

This car is so fun to drive. The 1.8T engine has more than sufficient get-up-and-go and all the added extras you get on this car are extraordinary. You can't beat this car for the price, especially the price I got. I love the sound that come out of those eight speakers (WOW!!). The bass sounds great at high levels and has little distortion. I live down some long curvy roads and the Wolfsburg, with its sport suspension, really grabs a hold of those back roads. And of course, how could I forget, the cool key and windows thing.

Weakness:

None

I would definitely recommend this car to anyone who wants a taste of the finer things but either can't afford or doesn’t want to pay for a BMW or Audi.

Strength:

This car is a great value!! It drives great on snow and dry payment. The ASR feature is pretty good, and worth the money for it. I love the sun roof too.

Weakness:

The only thing that I do not like is the two indentations on each side of the car along the rocker panel. I would think they could have hide this. I wish the GLS version had the self dimming rear view mirror. I am thinking about installing it myself.

This car is great for a single person, it is diffently not a family car. I would recommend it very highly.

Strength:

The Looks, handling and reliability of this vehicle are great. The interior is roomy and comfortable; I recommend the heated mirrors and seats. Has an excellent eight-speaker stereo.

Weakness:

Cup holders are small if you order a jumbo fast-food drink.

It's a great car. I've had it for just about two years now and haven't had a single problem. The handling of the Tdi is truly unique; the car really shines on the highway. The braking is also incredible; I’ve never been in a car with such sensitive brakes. The cup holders could be bigger; It’s designed to hold German beer:) My friend owns a 1994 Jetta and there was a little bit of wind noise on the highway, but I guess they fixed that problem with the new models.

I would truly recommend this car.

This little car is great...! It's fast and looks great and is very roomy. with the right rims and body kit, this car can look great.

Weakness:

So far i have not noticed any weaknesses about the Jetta. It's great little car...!

I recently blew the motor, and now have a new motor. It's an 1.8L 8V inline 4, with a neuspeed intake and headers, with a high permance exhaust. puts out approx. 140 HP, instead of a stock 105 hp. Now i can really race people. It's a good little car and plan to keep it and fix it up as time goes by. My next step is to get a high performance Cam as well as a cam gear.

Strength:

I dont know what to say I guess the best qualities is that, it is quiet, smooth, great handling, great sound, great heated seats, love the leather interior, the blue/red lights at night, cool key, great climate control heats up quick and cools off quick, I keep my all season tires and the work great in the snow never mind if I had snow tires *wink*, ummm lets see everyone loves the car, the silver car always looks sooooo cool on a sunny or rainy day, the speed, and power is awesome, love the 6 cd changer, the automatic lights dimming when you close the car and start it. And if I missed something its probably cause I just didnt think about it. The car is overall a great car.

Weakness:

well, the major prob is that the car is too quiet inside, sometimes I want to hear the noise of the road so I know how fast I am driving. I have been unknowingly driving 125MPH on the highways and thinking that I am going the speed limit, not like the cop will believe me when I get that ticket. I think another complaint is that the trunk doesnt automatically close, and perhaps maybe VW should have heated tires to melt the snow and ice, hey maybe a good idea, lol well those are the weaknesses I found so far.

Well I had the car about 4 months and I drove on a road and took a 90 degree turn (me stupid) on snow at about 65mph and my car went into a deep ditch. Well basically the car stopped at the bottom cause I released the gas and my car sat their, lol with the music playing :) I realized I was alive and I just drove right out of the ditch like nothing happened.
BUT, I had wheat sticks stuck under my car :( and the sides was all muddy but nothing was damaged to the car at all.
I even drove it to the VW dealer and told them what happened and they looked at the car for free to make sure everything was ok. they just took the car and looked at it on the spot.
I am also amazed by the support from VW from the dealers and the company. Since I got the car I got so many letters and presents from VW I dont know what to do with them any more :)
Well if anyone wants a cool car get a Jetta if you want a car that looks "nice" on the outside and will breakdown on the side of the road or flip over on a wet curve get a camaro.
Have Fun,
Kevin

chevy camaro, and the camaro sucks next to it, even the power, if you take a 2001 camaro z whatever and take a 2001 VW Jetta GLX and race them on a curvy wet road or a straight line the Jetta will at the end out run the Camaro either way. The Jetta may not be as fast in accelaration but when it comes to snow and rain and curvy roads you will find the camaro flipped over on the edge of the road :)

Strength:

very cute, recaro seats, power everything, alloy wheels. Basically the car looks great and has lots of fun gadgets.

Weakness:

Everything else about the car is horrible! It breaks down all the time, random pieces of the car will fall off from time to time. a while ago I went to close the door and the handle came off in my hand. (that's not supposed to happen) Everything imaginable has gone wrong with this car. It is getting old now, but I had many of these problems when the car was not very old.

Overall This car has been the worst thing that has happened to me. I want to sell it, but I am having a hard time keeping it running and in tact long enough to do so. I have heard that the newer VW's are better quality now that Audi is making them. I sure hope so. I wouldn't recommend buying an older jetta to anyone. I can discribe this car in one word LEMON!!!!!
