Strength:

cute car people always compliment it and smile at you because its a "happy car." roomy in the front, ok on gas

Weakness:

who was dumb enough to design the cup holder... better yet, who approved it? you can't even get a large pepsi! manufacturers defects galour! cd player in the trunk?! now thats convienent! the car is a lush...burns too much oil! and when your on the highway with your windows down the sound of the wind hurts your ears, and i love to ride with the windows down and the music crancked!

a dream come true... TOO BAD IT'S A NIGHTMARE!!! I did research with consumer reports magazines and the like about this trendy little car. My father wanted me to test drive another camry since they've always proved themselves reliable.. my heart was set on the beetle, I had to prove it to him i was making the right decision. after all the research dad agreed. my troubles started within a month... -my speakers shorted out it took 2x to fix it right. -front headlight burned out about 3k -check engine light on and off since 5k -trunk switch sticks 4x to get it right! -transmission blew 23k (lucky me) -warrenty only up to 24k ro two years (that just sucks) -30k this was fun... took it in for an oil change and figured i'd have the brakes checked to see about when i should get the replaced (figured front ones due within the next few months) only to find out front have lots of life left and my back brakes are down to the calipers that cost me about $350.00 and i still have problems with grinding and squeeking....can't wait to trade this hunk-a-junk in for something that works!

Strength:

fun to drive, speedy, decent gas mileage, good value for the money, if you don't mind taking it over to the dealership every few weeks ;-)

Weakness:

Coil packs, of course, poor VW customer service, unreliable

This car has made my life miserable since I purchased it in 10/01. It has been in the shop 6 times since 3/02! Coil packs replaced 3/02, 7/02, 10/02 and 1/03. It was just freaky how mine went out like clockwork every 3-4 months. Twice it happened after my car had been parked at the airport while I was out of town. Imagine getting back from a business trip or vacation and you turn the car on and the check engine light is on and the car is misfiring... You just got back to town and now you have to take the thing to the dealership first thing in the morning...aargh, it make you want to beat your head into the wall. Power window broke 9/02. Water leak through the driver's door that resulted in carpet replacement 9/02. I've heard that VW is finally doing a recall on the coil packs, and I have been assured that all mine are now non-defective...will see what happens. I have to say I will NEVER buy another VW again. It's really discourging to have a brand new car that you know is going to break down on you again and again. Plus, I'm afraid to take long trips in it because it could strand me on the highway somewhere. Supposedly my problem is solved but I don't believe a word VW says. The extremely poor way VW handled the coil pack problem (only replacing them as they go out) has resulted in them losing a customer...I repeat, I will NEVER EVER buy another VW. A friend of mine had a 66 Beetle that was more reliable then my 2002. Sad... Buy a VW at your own risk! If you do, be prepared for problems, problems, problems. So much for that German engineering.

This car is great. I feel safe, and all the options I wanted came with a high price tag on other cars, but not this one! I am 100% satisfied!

I work for Volkswagon in Santa Ana, California, and I recently purchased my Beetle late last year. I have never had any problems with the car. I love my car. I take care of it and it takes care of me. I am aware of the coil issue at had, and VOA has release statements regarding this issue, the coils are currently as we speak being produced constantly and will arrive sometime in March. Once they arrive things will go a lot smoother, and cars will not be kept at the dealership for long periods of time just waiting for the part to be shipped. But back to the Beetle... this is the best car I have ever owned. Great gas mileage, pick-up, it is just simply a fun car to drive! As long as people take care of their car by having regular maintenance, the cars will perform the best! Remember "Volkswagon's love real Volkswagon Parts" ""Keepin' it Real!""

Model Reviewed: VW Beetle 1.8 Turbo Sport

Strength:

The car looks nice. I love the design of the sport model. Mine is black with the matching rims and leather interior. With the black tint, I look like nightrider. It has just the right amount of power. I have no complaints there. Also, the dealership has been very nice about all of my problems and seems to want to fix them.

Weakness:

The coils.... The sun visors are useless. The cup holders are odd. Also, one of my back taillights just fell out. It was hanging by wires. I also hear horror stories about the stereo wiring, so be careful if you replace the stock model.

This was my car, or so I thought. I finally could afford to buy a new car, and I went with the Beetle Turbo Sport Model. I loved the car. The leather interior was great. The seat warmers were too cool. The sun/moon roof combination was awesome. The speed and get-up on this vehicle was great. Gas mileage wasn't too shabby. The rims were very nice. All of this was around $22,000. I thought I was getting a lot of car for that price. However, I started having problems around 15,000 miles. I was driving, and the MIL light came on. It was flashing at first and then just remained on. My car was making this horrible noise. I had it towed in and looked at. They said it was the coil, and they just had to replace it. Well, about three weeks later, it happend again. Another coil went out. Now, the dealership tells me that I need all four replaced. Why doesn't VW do a recall and fix this coil problem??? I have received nothing from VW about this. The dealership told me that they were aware of the problem and could fix it. My car is in the shop now, so lets see.

I have had this car almost two weeks now and I have had no problems with it. After about two weeks since I got it, my mother and I were involved in a bad accident in my newly purchased car. Being hit from the driver's side my mother and I felt no pain in result from the crash. I felt nothing more than like a Bumper Car ride. I am thankful to VW for building such a safe car, I think if I were driving anything else I wouldnt be here today. I had no whiplash pains the next day. The car itself faced some major repairs but im thankful for its strong and sturdy design.

Weakness:

Nothing. This car saved my life.

Great Car.

none on my car, you people dont know how to shop for fruit cuz all you ended up with is a bag of lemons!

This car is very nice, I have never had problems with it. I have only had to change oil and spark plugs for maintaining. I installed a ball bearing turbo, strut braces, 19" wheels, wide body kit, cossie spoiler, air bag suspension, rockford stereo (speakers in doors, side panels, dash board, trunk), neon light kit (shifter, under car 4 light, strobes in headlights, everywhere neon fit it has it), Gene Berg shifter, marblized kameleon with red candy over it.

Strength:

safe cars, nice standard options, ride well

Weakness:

major blind spots, window problems, major coolant leaks, handles and knobs break off often, headlights quickly burn out, several warning lights have started to surface, Major oil consumption, the seating and floor material are very hard to clean

The car has lots of options found in more expensive cars. The ride is nice but the problems or starting to out way the pleasures

Cute, good acceleration on highway. When they worked I loved the heated seats.

Weakness:

see above

The first problem with thc car was that it kept dying while driving. I took it in 5 times over 6 months before they finally found the problem-bad wiring to the air flow sensor (which was replaced 4 times). Next the driver's side window sunk into the door and I had to have the switch replaced, then the i had to replace the switch that pops open the gas flap. Now my the drivers side heated seat doesn't work, both front tires keep going flat ( I am told it is because of the rims) and all the tires make a screeching sound. In all I did not expect so many problems with a Volkswagon, I was told they were very reliable cars, but I get nervous every time I walk to my car in case something else is wrong.

Very cute, comfortable, does good in the snow.

Weakness:

the engine light is annoying!!!

I love my car but everytime I get in it I wonder if it will break down on me. When I first got it the one of the sensors went out wich caused the secondary fan to run wich in turn ran down the battery. and The check engine light keeps coming on and now it is still on, because I think that it is broken, also the oil cap I learned on VW doesn't seal all the way and it causes moisture in the oil which leaves a yellowy goop on the cap, It doesn't affect the engine if you get it flushed every 6 months. Other that those things I love the car, but from what I am reading, I am scared to keep it because of what I have read.
