Looks good
Weakness:
Bad support for the longevity of the car. I haven't had any problems out of my Bug since I bought it Nov. 1998 until just recently. July 2002 the Passenger Window just stopped working and it slid down into the door. A little plastic piece 50 bucks and a little labor from the dealer 180 bucks.....Then not two weeks later the air conditioning just stopped working. Now I know some are saying your car is four years old, that happens sometimes. Well my Bug only has 36,210 miles on it because its a show car....I don't drive it that often. So the rework @ the dealer is $ out at 1200 plus. WOA BUDDY. I call the VOA customer service.....Don't bother folks....These people are robots litterly. They denined helping me. The little lady told me @ first the miles on my car were to high...I asked her if she was reading from some kinda manual or something. 4 yrs only 36k miles....not gonna cover there sister...Come up with something better than that. She said the decision is final anything else I can help you with.....Well I won't tell ya what I told her but you can guess at it. Sad thing is my family has a jetta a passat and a cabrio......all fairly new...I won't buy another one not after how the CUSTOMER SERVICE helped me. Stay away folks....They don't care about you they only care about getting your money. Similar Products Used: ? |

Strength:
I can park in even the most impossibly small space.
Weakness:
Too numerous to mention. I should have known that I was in for trouble when I paid $200.00 to replace a battery. My next problem was the motor in the power windows- both passenger and driver side were stuck in the down position. $350.00 to fix. The next time that this happened (!) I took it to a private mechanic rather than a Volkswagon dealer, so it only cost $200.00. Since then, I have had both side power mirrors fail, my check engine light goes on if I turn off the air conditioning (thankfully I live in Miami and this is rairly necessary), my trunk open light is always on, despite the fact that it is properly closed,.... The most recent problem is the power locks- when I open the car using my key, the alarm system is not properly disabled, causing the alarm to go off when I open the door. The only thing that prevents this is opening the door using the remote. Unfortunately, my remote battery died the last time that this happened, so I was stuck with a madly beeping car in a Target parking lot. (Of course, the replacement battery cannot be found in the Target electronics department, you have to go to the dealership to purchase the uniquely shaped Volkswagon Beetle remote battery!!)With the exception of the power windows, I have not done anything to fix these problems because I am sure that it would cost me an arm and a leg, and judging from the other reviews, I made the correct decision, because I would probably end up in the shop a month later with the same problems. In short, a horrible, unreliable nuisance of a car. DO NOT PURCHASE ONE- YOU WILL REGRET IT!! Similar Products Used: Ford Escort- Half the price of the Beetle, and never had a single problem. |

Strength:
tons of headroom fits more stuff that you would expect - good for a 2 person family good gas mileage - even when prices were high i could fill up the tank for a $20 very reliable
Weakness:
difficult to fit 4 adults comfortably if there is a problem - it's difficult to fix on your own because of how engine/transmission is positioned empty gas tank gives like 50 feet of warning I bought this car almost two years ago and I have had only one minor problem with it - about a year after I bought it, there was a problem with the shift console's electrical system. I took it in to the dealer and it was repaired immediately, at no cost to me. Other than that, I have enjoyed owning this car immensely. No problems with transmission, windows, etc. as stated by other owners. It gets good gas mileage. VW roadside assistance has been very good to me and so have all the dealerships that I've gone to - haven't had to pay out of pocket for anything so far. And I've driven this car on 4+ hours car trips and never had a problem. |

Nice style and very eye catching for youg kids.
Weakness:
Very noise with open windows and/or sunroof. One of the biggest mistake I made in my life has been when I purchased this car. The car has been back to the dealer 6 times for the same problem: loss of power while I am driving. When I am driving the car at normal speed 50-60 the car loses power and even though I have the accelerator all the way down it does not go at more than 20mph. This has happened to my wife 2 times while she was on a Parkway and she almost got into a car accident. The dealer has tried over and over to fix the problem but with no success. This has also cost me money since I had to pay for car rental while the car has been at the shop. VW Customer Service, which I called so many times, are not very coopertative. When you talk to them it seems like you are talking to a robot. I strongly recommend to consumers not to purchase this vehicle. I will never purchase a VW car again. This car was supposed to be for my daughter in one year but I cannot trust to have her driving this vehicle with all the problems that it has. |

fun to drive, all those cup holder (hehehe)
Weakness:
road noise customer service thru dealership and VW itself please dont buy one!!!!!! One word...LEMON!!! And from the looks of the previous entries, I am not the only one who thinks so. I am so glad it wasn't only me. Wished I would I heard all of this before I purchased this car. First off, I had it one month, and the gas cap release didnt release anymore. Dealership said they fixed it, and a few days later, it didnt release again. They replaced it (now it is happening again- 2 1/2 years later) Car had to be towed a total of 2 times to the shop and I have needed a rental 3 times. List of other problems: -car was stuck into park -about 6 different sensor have gone bad, which some have caused wires to burn (of course those are covered under the extended warranty) -interior falling apart, pealing of door handles and arm rest, window button broke off - snaps fall of all the floor mats -ignition code key failed, after trying to reset it 3 different times, they finally decided to replace it, but it took 4 weeks for the part. So it sat in the shop for that long. Which caused rusted rotors, the fix, take it for a joy ride and ride its breaks. -brakes need to be replaced at 40,000 miles (all wheels), and mechanic told me i was only stopping on 40% of my brakes, because the were put on wrong (that would be by the manufacturer)---good news I traded it in today:) Similar Products Used: 94 Geo Metro (this car puts the bug to shame) |

Strength:
This car is cute looking and fun to drive with a lot of accessories.
Weakness:
The car does not come with the option of CD deck. And all of the above complaints! My car has been reliable thus far with a few problems that have been VERY irrating. 1. The "engine cold" light would not turn off(a few months after I bought the car). Took it to the dealer. They said it was some kind of malfunction but that it was fixed. 2. The clock was not working properly, the whole fixture had to be changed. 3. Cheap interior. The insides of the door handles are peeling. The interior part by my tape deck is begining to bubble. The cup holders even are peeling and they are useless(good for storing coins, can't hold cups). I mentioned the peeling interior problem to the dealership who cited "normal wear and tear". 4. Biggest problem was with window. First the window would not roll up all the way. Then the window switches broke. The passenger side window would keep on rolling up 1/3 of the way then roll back down or I would have to keep pressing the switch to have it roll up. I took it to the dealership 4 times and all they kept doing was relubricating the window. Then they blamed my tint!! I finally decided to ask file a lemon law claim. The arbitrator decided I needed to allow VW another chance to fix the window. The dealership replaced my tint and still found the same problem. Then they found out it was the motor. 5. My front light went out in one year. Immposible to even change a light bulb by your self! You really need to bring your car to the dealer for EVERTHING!! **for a brand new car I feel it it way too early to have any problems with it. Strength:
Good gas milage
Weakness:
Expensive insurance Windshield breaks easily cup holders useless cheep seat levers (easily broken) Little room in the trunk I bought this car from a nurse who won the beetle from the internet. It has been a nightmare for our family. The car has had 2 new windshields put on it. The insurance company told me that next to the jeep, the beetle *because of the way it's shaped) has the highest amount of chips and cracks. I have had touble with the automatic mirror knob. He broke and wow that was costly. I have had the handle for the seats replace twice, the cup holders are useless. It is in the shop as I type this up AGAIN. The oil light came on, the noise it was making was very loud and I knew something was wrong, We towed it to the VW deeler in Lansing,MI (who by the way are the nicest people I've ever met in repair buisness) and first the replace the oil switch, $160.00 then the said they would replace the oil pump ($400) BUT when they "dropped the oil pan, they found metal shaving" and decided not to put in the oil pump and say now it needs a new ENGINE! I have been very faithful have oil changes and tune ups (which have been more than I ever paid for any other car we own), and still this misfortune. I had a for sale sign in it for a while, I'm glad none of my friends bought it. It's bazzar, when someone I know asks about the car, I feel dishonest if I dont tell them about how expensive it is to keep the car up. I wish I had never bought this car. I will NEVER BUY A VW BEETLE AGAIN. It makes sense, Ben Laden ownes the VW Beetle in foreign countries, I wonder if he had the one here in the USA. It was , in my opinion the way he terrorized our family. Similar Products Used: Out houses |

Strength:
peppiness, sound system, features, huge windows, good maneuverability
Weakness:
the brakes make a noise when they get wet and you first start out, but WHO CARES!! I LOVE MY BUG!! Trust me, you will too. I have a red 2000 gls with 90hp, and that's plenty. Honest, the little things just zips around, and it never gets pushed around by massive SUVs, because I can practically drive under them. I'm a new driver, I got the bug for my 16th birthday and I adore it. The car turns excellently, stops well and it is so easy to maneuver 'cause of the size. The features you can get are awesome too. I have an automatic with a six disc, sunroof, heated seats and leatherette (can't tell it apart from real leather). Also, the interior space is not an issue at all. When you're sitting in the front seat you feel like you're in a gigantic armchair with sunlight all around. I admit, for a couple of adults the backseat is a little tight, but I've stuck both of my (rather tall) parents back there and they handled it. This is an amazing first car, if there are parents out there looking for a good 16th birthday present, you found it. Similar Products Used: i had a red bike once |

Cute car. Fun to drive.
Weakness:
Poor quality. Poorer service. Very discouraged with chronic problems and inability of dealership to fix them. The check engine light comes on frequently - and repairs are quite pricey. Then, it comes back on again within a week or two. The airbag light comes on frequently - and dealer can't fix it. And - apparently, the airbags won't deploy if the sensor is on. So, I keep taking it back. Most recently, it came back on 1 days after the dealer had it for ten days. Arrrgh! Similar Products Used: no previous VW autos. |
