I LOVE this car. Before buying my NB, I drove a Mercedes, and before that an Infinity, and before that a Honda...dollar for dollar there is no comparison. I have had absolutely no trouble with it. Most importantly, when I have a bad day, I can go sit in my green bubble car and turn the heated seats and forget about the evil world out there...

I love this vehicle. I would love it more if the dealer cared more. I have had little things break (floor vents-Screw covers missing). The only real problem i had was the clutch. It went at about 200 miles. It was defective from the factory,

Strength:

It holds up great on every road, has great looks and can be close to the ground with out scraping, also has the best ride for the price, and the looks are to die for.

Weakness:

Not any that I have come across. And I have owned mine for almost two years now!

It grabs peoples eyes and makes them watch you as you take the turns with pro skill and then stop and get waves from your friends driving other VWs.

Strength:

This car makes me feel like a million bucks when I drive it. I like the way it handles the road a lot! It has many features and excellent crash results. The gas mileage is also really good, about 30hw and 28city. It is very sporty while at the same time like a luxury car. It will get up and go when you hit the gas.

Weakness:

I have not really had any probs yet, although surely something will have to be fixed later on. Lets be realistic here. The only thing I can complain on is the blind spot in the rear pillars, but I knew about it going in, and have adjusted to using the mirrors and looking better.

Overall, this car is really awesome, It is a Cyber green GLS 2.0 5spd with luxury package, that is leather seats that are heated, power windows and locks, sunroof, heated mirrors and washer nozzels. This was my first new car purchase so I really wanted something to enjoy. I have gotten what I wanted. It is really fun to drive, I often find myself just going out to drive it for no reason at all. I think they really have improved the 2001 models over the 98s. They had problems in the beggining but that was expected with a concept car. I researched the car for about a year and saved for it, so I knew the specs by heart by time I had waited three and a half months for it to come in. The interior is really awesome at night. Another note, I happened to have found the most awesome VW dealer anywhere, that is one thing that I see is that most people have bad VW dealers, I shopped about six and found one that really backs the cars they sell and treat the customers right. West Houston VW in Houston TX, is the place to go if you are in the market. They went out of their way to help me, being that I am only 18, paid for the car myself and drove it off. The other six did not do that. So, my point is, get a bug, IT IS AWESOME!!

Long Lasting "New Car Euphoria".
That 1.8t really goes when you want.
EXCELLENT gearing ratio, except for a lack of an overdrive...
WONDERFUL 'tuner' car.
Really a surprise... A MUST TEST DRIVE.

Weakness:

Some dealerships have bad service centers. I've recieved great service from my dealership though.

EXCELLENT. I absolutely love the vehicle. Has never stranded me, only had 1 minor problem, which was repaired at the dealership under warranty.

Absolutely remarkable get-up-and-go. Especially after a few modifications.

It's cute. Proves that cute doesn't equate to weak. FAR FROM IT.

Handles like precision German machinery. YOU GOTTA TEST DRIVE IT... Go on a road w/turns. the more the merrier. ;p

hmmm.. where should i start?
ok i am on my third clutch, my transmission blew up once, my windows dont work, their is soo much plastic falling off every day my car is probly a thousand lb's lighter, their has been hmmm about 15 check engine lights, the retards at the dealership crashed it twice, they left a socket in the bell housing of my transmission cousing it to go bad, their was a bur in the transmission but insted of replacing the trans they decided to grind it out like with a dremle tool, think im paying for 3 more clutches ??? no way..
hmmmm what else oh yea a seat has come un bolted on my g/f she ended up in my lap.
e-brake buton broke twice, glove box dosnt shut, things under the hood keep un-pluging their self, my raideo stoped working, the trunk latch broke, a wether seal fell off, the little wing on the back that you can pop up with a switch got stuck up, two bad speekers, and lots more little stuff...... the list goes on and on and on.....
I have no clue what i will do when my warenty is up im not paying to fix VW's JUNK

Dont ever buy a VW beetle!!! i read that vw's beetle plant has 40% of the cars come of the line need to be repaired or fixed.. that only 20% of that 40 actualy end up being sold...
i wish i would have known all this before i bought a beetle.
all i have to say is VW has lots of explaining to do..

Turbo feel, Look, Ride, breaking, and room. Driving feel is better than most in class.

Weakness:

Rear room, Sound system, rattles, overpriced, blind spots, and mirrors are too small

Well I have had this car for a little over a year, but I did own one before a 1998 black gls, but I had to get rid of it because it was way too slow, and had a lot of problems. I shoulda known, it being a new model and all. Anyway My silver turbo has been great. breaking is great acceleration is great ride feel is good, and nice, but things do rattle making me feel like the car isn't too solid. Also gas mileage isn't all they say it is. I have yet to see anywhere near 31 MPG on the highway. The main problem I see with this car is how overpriced it is. Now granted it is very popular but it is way overpriced. I can get an entry level volvo for just a few more bucks and get wood trim, and many other luxuries. But I do like the design, but Vw seems to be screwing customers. They know they will pay this high price and they are taking it for granted. I mean $23000 for such a small car. That seems a little ridiculous. Anyway I got in an accident with my car and little did I know every part costs quite a bit, and on top of it, it was i nthe shop for 2 months. 2 MONTHS. Way too long. Just more VW customer service problems. I recommend this car to people who have a high tolerance for problems.

Strength:

Great looking design. More room inside than most people think. Fun to drive.

Weakness:

Very poor build quality compared to the air-cooled VW’s. Too many squeeks and rattles. Incompetant dealer service.

I’ll start by saying that this is the tenth VW I’ve owned. This car has really been disappointing, The first year I owned it it spent an inordinate amount of time in the shop. Nothing was ever fixed right the first time. VW has a long way to go before they get to the level of service they used to be known/admired for. Besides the “normal” sensor failures, I’ve had the turn signal switch fail, the cables in the passenger seat broke, the rear hatch still rattles after 3 trips to the dealer. The worst was the last warranty oil change was done without tightening the oil filter. The engine lost 3 quarts on the way home. Now it uses 2 quarts per 3000 miles. I know it probably isn’t fair to compare to the older bugs made in Germany, but I believe being made in Mexico has a lot to do with the lack of quality. The older cars were just made a lot better, although a lot colder in the winter. I think VW has a lot of problems to work out before I would recommend a new beetle to anyone.

This is a fun car to drive, it has great road feel and you always know what the car is doing. Great looks and peppy.

Weakness:

Poor radio reception on the AM band. I have taken back to the dealer twice, and it is still not resolved. Thick A pillars, which I knew when I bought the car, no problem, I adjusted to them.

I've had this car for over two years now and I put 35,000 miles on it in the first year alone, since then I have stopped watching the odometer. It has not given me one ounce of trouble. Just change the oil, do the required maintenance and rotate the tires. I drive cars hard, I believe that God put the red line on the tach to be used and I do. EVERY CHANCE I GET. I have the 5 speed manual and it matches up well to the 2.0 liter eng. Could it have more power? Sure, but thats one of those things that you could never have to much of, like money. The bottom line is, if you like to drive, want a car that has good road feel, is great to look at, can be modified at a reasonable cost, is peppy when the 2.0 liter engine and manual transmission are mated together and has responsive steering then you gotta get this thing. ITs A HOOT TO DRIVE!

I call my cyber-green Bug my "Bad Luck Mobile". Initially, I loved driving this cute, attention-grabber around. I have had more problems with this car in the past 2 years than I can recall now, but I will try:
I find the place where the windshield and left front window meet to be a huge blind spot. Once, I innocently rolled down the window--when I attempted to roll it back up, the window cracked in several places, then fell into the door. The hood doesn't close all of the way. The trunk is almost impossible to open without the manual key. The ride is loud and a bit scary over 60 MPH. It is horrible in the snow. The left rearview mirror handle broke off in my hand. The list goes on...I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone. Once the novelty (and warrenty) weas off, it's useless. Stick with the Jetta!
