Strength:
rides well, very roomy
Weakness:
headlight covers fall off!!! Within a 6 month time frame, both of the covers on my headlights have come off. The first I noticed , the second one was too late, It got ran over. They are quite costly and I would suggest that anyone with a Venture should go ahead and glue your lights on to be safe.! |

faulty gasket Love my Venture, BUT...it's ~ ~ ~in the shop as I type!!~ ~ ~ 79,000 mi. and coolant leaking. A faulty MANIFOLD INTAKE GASKET, a $725 job to fix. No extended warranty here. AARRGGHH!! I hope this isn't the beginning of a lengthy list of service calls. I just signed the petition. I urge ALL to visit http://www.petitiononline.com/GMcnsmrs/petition.html and sign. There are almost 1000 signatures of same General Motors gasket complaint. I feel GM should foot this bill! Oh, also had the lens cover fall off of headlight. Noticed moisture inside from day-one and after about 4 1/2 years, had to replace one unit due to loss of lens cover on highway. I suggest to epoxy your lens covers NOW before you lose them! |

INTAKE MANIFOLD. Which I discovered other GM products have same problem so why is it taking GM so long to do a recall. Generally havent had trouble. Always serviced by dealer, not one we purchased it from due to distance, and followed recommended service plan. VERY IMPORTANT KEEP ALL YOUR SERVICE RECORDS. Went in for 50K service and dealer said we hadnt done 30K. Also coolant was leaking so had that check. Outcome INTAKE MANIFOLD $800. We have 45000K miles. Hadnt bought extended warranty - never used in past. Dealer said we had no recourse but to get fixed. Came home found service records. Had done 30K and also 33K for oil change reflected that there was a slow engine leak. Amazing - could this possible be related. Called Chevrolet main office customer service. Supposly I only have to pay $100 deductible now. Many worry after reading this web site is the long effects of this INTAKE MANIFOLD LEAKAGE. Did coolant get in engine?? What else could happen. Only time will tell but KEEP ALL SERVICE RECORDS AND ONLY SERVICE AT DEALERSHIP SO YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO FIGHT WITH. |

/Venture Extend- LT Entertainer
Strength:
The ride and design of the LT Entertainer is as nice as any we tried. The Built in DVD is a bonus as we no longer have to lug the laptop on Vacation. One less thing to unpack! Power sliding doors and Onstar make this van great!
Weakness:
The 3.4L v6 is very good but Chevy should consider offering a 3.8L V6 like Chrysler does. Better power for pulling a boat or trailer. We love this mini-van. Although we have only had this a short time we really enjoy it. I can't recommend enough spending the extra money for the LT model with Sport Suspension and traction control. We drove both the LS and LT Models. The LT rides much better than the LS. I believe it has to do with the sport suspension. It drives as well or better that the Town and Country EX we drove 1500 miles on vacation last year. I believe if you drive this vehicle you will understand what I mean. Believe me when I say there is a huge difference in the less expensive LS Venture. It's like driving two different vans. Good luck in your search. I also recommend Consumer Reports Car Buyer Reports. Very helpful in the purchase process. I really belive Chevy has finally got their act together to produce a great top-end van for my family! Thanks Chevy! Similar Products Used: Chrysler Town & Country EX, & LX, Plymouth Voyager. |

I bought my Venture with 79 miles. I am driving 300 miles every day on Florida Highway. My odometer marks 180,000 without any repair. I just changed the engine oil/filter every 5,000 miles, the transmission oil/filter every 6,0000, tune-up every 90,000 miles, oxygen filters every 60,000 miles. The engine is still very quiet (without noise). Let see if it can make 300,000 miles. |

Venture Van
Strength:
Gas mileage, nice ride, lots of power - I think I have not driven it enough yet to determine or find out much about it.
Weakness:
Everything - for the first month the dealer, then I threatened to call the local media and raise a stink, if I did not get satisfaction...... Bought van May 31, 2002, 63131 km's, van now has 68238 km's - has had the following work completed under Ext Waranty ($1,595 w/ $100 deductible) - front strut seized, radio antenae, radio, cassette (repaired), transmission (complete rebuild, including valve body), intake mainfold gasket, oil pump, tie rod bolt broke inside lock nut, windshield trim reattached, Speedometer cluster 4 different times, fuel pump electrical connectors (under body), miscellaneuos rattles inside cabin area. You want a review - it is a piece of S***. P.S. This is the 2nd transmission in this van since new. Similar Products Used: Ford Aerostar. I know people with all other years and they have not had as much trouble with theirs. It seems as though the 1999's are garbage - but other years are okay...I will dump it when warranty |

Weakness:
Support from manufacturer. Very pleased EXCEPT manifold intake gasket. It has developed a major leak. Many others have had same problem. No help from General Motors. This costly repair seems hit many owners. Why? |

Strength:
gas mileage, air conditioning
Weakness:
engine, reliability, lack of GM concern for major defects that they know exist I generally liked my van until the inevitable intake manifold gasket repair was necessary and GM offers no help, no extended warantee or discount on the repair. The lack of support from GM will prevent me from purchasing any other GM product and discouraging others from doing so. I can not wait to unload it on some one else |

Chevrolet Venture EXT LS
Strength:
Power Seating
Weakness:
Reliability We purchased a 1997 Venture in October 1997. Until the engine died, we were generally happy with it. Aside from the cover of both headlights falling off, requiring the replacement (twice) of the entire headlight assembly; a transmission replacement at 11,000 miles and two years (THIS repair was covered by warranty); and minor trim breakage and occasional rattles, the vehicle met our expectations. Until at 30,000 miles and 4 1/2 years, my (non-GM) mechanic diagnosed a leaking intake manifold gasket (the only warning was a sporadic “low coolant” light). My local Chevrolet dealer confirmed the diagnosis, with an estimated repair cost of $700. I was in the process of slowly gathering my maintenance receipts in hopes of receiving some financial assistance from GM when the engine started making a tapping noise. Within two weeks, the engine seized up, and my local GM dealership was only able to tell me that the engine was dead, and that it was $5000 to replace the engine. GM customer service was willing to provide a $1500 "customer loyalty" certificate towards a new GM vehicle for my troubles. |

Chevy Venture
Strength:
Good power, quite ride, solid feel when driving, lots of room (extended model), and the seats can be removed simply and easily (split bench).
Weakness:
Soft suspension makes van lean when taking sharp curves. Had to have it in to the dealer twice for warranty repairs (done same day), So far this van has been great. We just took it on vacation and were getting 30 mpg. It gives a quite and confortable ride and has plenty of room for the kids. We purchased this vehicle because of the high safety rating and because of the rebate/incentive program. Similar Products Used: Dodge Caravan |
