Strength:

Space, space, space. Easy in easy out 2nd and 3rd seats.

Weakness:

All of the above, but if Dodge would recognize these trans problems, and the others, it would not be that bad of a car.

I fell in love with this car, and still am because of the space it offers, and when it is fixed, it runs great, until something else goes wrong. We bought this one used with 44000 miles on it-we jumped the gun! Our first problem was the brakes, which they replaced the day after we bought it. Then we replced the front brakes again at 67000 (not too bad considering there were 2 completely different drivers!).Next, I brought the car back 2 times telling them that the belt was sqealing, and they told me nothing was wrong, haha, 1 day after I left the dealer, the belt broke, sending the tensioner bar flying and nicking the trans! So, I was out a car for a week, and in a rental I couldn''t afford to wait 6 to 8 weeks for a small reimbursemnt for. Keep reading, 3 is a charm, anyone know a good attorney for the lemon law? A couple of months later, at about 49000 miles, the trans starts to leak, out a car again for 8 days. They say they have fixed it, and they used "the best silicone sealer on the market" which translates into "we glued that sucker on so even if it is leaking you won''t be able to tell!" well, it leaked through the "best" took it back, we resealed it- HOW ABOUT JUST PUTTING THE NEW PAN AND PAN GASKET ON IT? Nope, all good they tell me. Now the car is going into gear rough, and they tell me (after 2 places have told me I do not need a tune up!) that the car is shifting ruff because I need new plugs and wires $200 later the car still wasn''t running right- 2 days after I got it back- somebody t boned me on pass. side at 40mph-NO AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT- this after I had brought up to the dealer 3 TIMES that the airbag light was staying on a little too long! 3x for the service engine soon light, 2 O2 sensors, weather stripping replacement, sliding doors sticking, light button on driver side not releasing, oh not to forget the head gaskets needed to be replaced, replaced valve cover gaskets, and before it was hit, it always smelled like burning plastic. Did anyone else get the recall notice for the fuel rail- lovely! And I had some seat belt problems. Anyone having suspension problems?

Strength:

Reliable! Cheap to maintain! Good gas mileage. Sturdy! Good ride! Wish every vehicle I''ve owned was this trouble free.

Weakness:

Only problem I have is the weatherstripping on the driver''s window crinkles in, making it difficult to roll up the window at times. Not a bad complaint for a vehicle of this year and mileage.

We purchased this van used in 1997 with 29,000 miles and now have 93,000 miles on it. It''s a 5 speed stick shift and we just haven''t had a minute''s problem with it. No major repairs at all! Normal maintenance types of expenses. New brakes at 70,xxx miles which is to be expected. That''s it other than oil changes and tires. Great family vehicle. Extremely reliable! Great in snow! Always parked outside in 4 season climate, and the finish is still in fine condition. No hint of rust. At this rate, I plan to drive it till it''s in the grave. Highly recommend the manual/standard transmission models!

Strength:

easy to drive, lots of room, good on gas, dependable(so far)and the dealer we got it from is great.

Weakness:

the transmissions don''t do well

I bought this used 3 years ago with about 150,000 miles on it so I expected some normal problems/repairs. I got what I expected. Overall I love this van. We did have to replace the transmission but like I said, it already had 150,000 on it and I found out the previous owners used it to tow snowmobile trailers and boat trailers so I''m not surprised it needed a new tranny at 150,000. We also had to replace the fuel pump at about 180,000. So I think overall the repairs we have made are to be expected with the high miles. It now has 187,000 and I plan on running her for as long as possible. I like it.

Trans are crap

Good thing For Chry Some people dont read the reviews Befor shopping ;However since my 1990 Ply Grand Vo 3.3 ltr has 206,700 miles on it (hint-- Used semi synthetic Oil since 1997 when purchased with 93,000 on it ) And the engine is still in top shape No valve or ring problems No blue smoke from exaust even on a cold start (Oil changed at no more than 3000 miles) A bit excessive by most service charts but well worth it (same results with a 1980 ford truck 194,000 + miles) same oil same results Now Its the 98''s turn First night home it got a oil change 1st one will be Full synthetic To Freshen it up a bit (40,000) miles on it so its due. Then all changes after that will be SemiSynthetic at 3000 miles Next is the trany Oh The trany Yes as you have read they dont go the extra mile so it pays to buy the warenty But MOST IMPORTANT IS YOUR FLUID ATF +3 ONLY If THE STORE YOU STOP AT DOESNT HAVE IT BETTER YOU PUSH YOUR CAR TO THE NEXT ONE THAT SELLS IT DO NOT USE ANY OTHER FLUID Change at no more than 20,000 miles Time will tell with the new van I hope to have the same results although the reviews sound a much different tone

all of the above

Purchased used in 96- quickly started having problems. Major oil leak before 50K miles, transmission overhaul at 70K miles, shudders at 48-50 mph, more trans problems, never was the even after overhaul. Lots of road noise, water pump and fuel pump problems continual problem, a/c another constant problem. Paint fading horribly. Repair shop and dealer admits lots of problems with these vehicles. Have filed a complaint with Dodge, I''m a number in a sea of others, esp for trans. Dodge will never see my money again.

Strength:

Smooth ride, little engine noise, gas mileage

Weakness:

haven''t really found any yet

About a month ago, we bought a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport as our older minivan was starting to give us some problems and we didn''t want to stick any major money into it. We are so glad we bought it. The newer minivans have a wonderful smooth ride, and the engine noise is very minimal. We are getting pretty good mileage too (about 25 highway, 18 city), and we just can''t say enough about how we like it. We have had 3 Chrysler vans before this and this is our first with quad seating, and the boys love having their own seats. Anyone especially with a family will love the newer vans as they have improved a lot over the years we''ve started buying them.

Paint peeling off in dinner plate sized chunks. Transmission failure ^%&*$. Poor brake system design.

Paint peels off in hugh chunks, transmission failure at 70,000 miles, brake line failure about same time. ABS sensor failure. This was a used car with one owner previously at 65,000 miles. I like the space, and ride, but hate the problems.
