I guess I`m kinda lucky my van has 35,000 miles on it,out of warranty, and chrysler just agreed to replace the second head gasket. Quoted at the dealer $1009.00. The first went 1 yr 3 mon. after I bought it. It just reached its fourth aniversary and started leaking oil again. The brakes went very early within 2 yrs. There was a problem with the blower the dealer said rodents were getting in it. I get a funny smell from the a/c. I don`t think I would buy another Caravan.

Strength:

This is the best looking minivan available.
It's also one of the biggest.

Weakness:

I used to have a Nissan Altima, and the workmanship was much better.
Every Caravan owner I've spoken to has a history of mechanical problems with it.

This is my first experience with a minivan. With 2 kids, I have really come to depend on having all that room. Up until a few months ago I was going to purchase it at the end of my lease. Then I had transmission problems. The dealer fixed the torque-converter (?) under the warranty. Had it not been under warranty, it would have cost 1,800-2,000 dollars. I'm sorry, but a 2 year old car with 20,000 miles should not have transmission problems. More and more people are coming out of the woodwork telling me about maintenance issues.

I'm glad I had the tranny problem when I did! I'm currently shopping for a different minivan.

Strength:

Cavernous.Economical. Reliable. El cheapo SE model with only V6 engine, AC and cruise, nevertheless quiet, comfortable highway cruiser. Friends who ride in it, even those who drive upscale vehicles, think it cost much more.
Smooth power train.Get up to 28 mpg on trips, cruising at 70 mph. Have put 30,000 miles on it, and have had zero problems, aside from a flat tire.

Weakness:

Can't think of any.

Excellent family vehicle. Good on trips, and around town. Solid, tight and thrifty. Although, short wheelbase model, it holds as much as a pickup, AND it is weatherproof. My wife loves it, and she has only driven small cars before. Good visibility. Easy to drive.

Similar Products Used:

1984, 1988, 1995 Dodge Caravans and 3 Ford Ranger pickups. Vastly superior to all, especially front end. 1999 front end much tighter, does not crash on bad bumps.
