None UPDATE--our dealer has worked with us. The bad news is we need a THIRD engine inour 98 windstar. The good news is the Dealer that has been working on it for 3 years will do the work under warranty. We plan to continued pestering FORD because of a faulty product--who knows how many don't have the time, energy, knowledge or know-how to go against a big company trying to rip off its customers Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
roomy - That is the main reason we got it. I am going back to a car. I would rather have a small car that works then a lot of room and having to put out thousands of dollars in repairs.
Weakness:
Airbag sensors gone, ABS sensors gone, hatch sensors gone, locks that open and close at random. Wipers fail to work at times. Paint pealing off sliding door. Seatbelt latch casing cracked. Wiper fluid pump does not always work. Engine that stales at random (mostly in stop and go traffic) Tires wear out fast. THE LIST GOES ON AND ON!!! F--- YOU FORD! YOU PUT OUT A P.O.S. OF A VAN!! FIVE STARS MY F---ING ASS!! The Windstar we have is garbage! When I park it at the side of the road I get a ticket for litering! If any one out there is reading this because they want a van, RUN as fast as you can away from this one! I WANT TO GET RID OF THE BIGGEST MISTAKE I EVER MADE IN A PURCHASE! To put it simply - The windstar is garbage! Similar Products Used: Had a Toyota Tercel. What can I say - BULLET PROOF. Why? Because it was not a FORD. I Will NEVER buy a FORD EVER AGAIN!!! |

Windstar GL
Strength:
Safety and reliability
Weakness:
Not having the 4th door or some of the other neat options you can get now. We bought this new, drove it almost 4 years, and recently traded for an '01 Windstar Limited. Our '98 GL was a great van for us. We bought it primarily because of the safety rating and also because we liked the looks of it compared to other minivans at the time. The biggest downside was that it didn't have the fourth sliding door. Our only problems were minor and they were: 1. Initially, the rear air/heat would occasionally blow the wrong temperature after switching from heat to air or vice versa. You would need to turn it off and then back on again. After this happened a few times, we brought it in for it to be fixed (still under warranty at the time). 2. Replaced front outer tie rods in the fourth year at around 40,000 miles. 3. During the fourth year the CD motor insert/eject motor would sometimes run continously after removing a CD. It would eventually stop on its own. 4. About a month ago, the rear wiper started operating when backing up,even though the the front wipers weren't on. 5. Also during this past month we had a few problems with the plastic seatbelt housings on two seats, but they were still under warranty and were fixed. Those were the only problems we ever had and it always ran smoothly and started perfectly (even in these cold SD winters). We went with the Windstar again and hope to have the same luck. Windstar SE
Strength:
It came with lots of nice amenities, and we think it is a very attractive vehicle.
Weakness:
Reliability. We bought this van 1 1/2 years ago when it had 24,000 miles and was 1 year old. In the past 1 1/2 years, it has needed service four times! Each time it has been due to a different problem. And while each one has been a relatively small problem, this has been incredibly frustrating, not to mention expensive. Similar Products Used: We've always driven Fords, (Taurus, Ranger, Probe, Mercury Sable) but feel burned by this one. We've decided to move to a Toyota or Honda. |

Strength:
ride and cargo space is good
Weakness:
totally unreliable Just put in the FOURTH transmission! I had to pay for this one ($2500). 2 blown head gaskets and huge chunks of paint comming off the roof. Also has had or is having other problems(ac, ignition switch, fuel pump, engine). I'm never buying another Ford. Not only because of this particular van, but more importantly because Ford's customer service is so poor... Similar Products Used: None |

This car, like other FORD products I've had, is a piece of junk. Wish I read the posts here before buying. Like others here, my WINDSTAR had a head gasket blow (41,000 miles) and 3 front strut replacements. Then there are the mystery electrical problems. What a joke. Run away from your FORD dealer. You'll be glad you did. LEMONADE ON WHEELS!!! Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Comfortable, car-like ride.
Weakness:
Many. Engine noise resulted in replacement engine 1 month after buying this car new. Took 2 months to get it back (dealer lost it, among other problems). When I did get it back, the ignition switch was broken. So, another trip to the dealer. After that, transmission slipping and power steering wining. I realize no car is perfect, but I've been buying new cars for a long time and this is ridiculous. DO NOT BUY A FORD. Very poor. Similar Products Used: None |

Ford continues to have serious quality problems. My problems in the first 12,000 miles (oil leaks, engine overheats, side door falls off, faulty heater, faulty elec. windows, 2 sets front brakes, paint peel, mysterious elec. problems). Had an Aerostar - same luck. Had an E-150 conversion, serious problems with it as well. Supreamo Crapola. I will never buy another Ford product. Lousy dealers, lousy products.
