Honda Odyssey Minivans | Wagons

Honda Odyssey Minivans | Wagons

DESCRIPTION

The Honda Odyssey minivan lives up to Honda's reputation for refinement, convenient features and great fit and finish.

The Odyssey is available in four trims: LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. All trims use a 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The EX-L and Touring trims carry the most recent version of Honda's variable cylinder management system (VCM), which allows the V6 engine to switch among three, four, and six cylinders to increase fuel efficiency. The interior features a third-row Magic Seat that folds into the floor. Maximum seating capacity for the Odyssey is eight passengers. Safety features such as side-impact and curtain airbags, four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system are standard on all models. Luxury features such as leather trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, navigation and entertainment systems are available.

The Odyssey carries-on for 2010 with minimal changes

Strength:

DVD system, Nav.

Weakness:

Road noise.

I love this van, we get 21 mpg. The fit and finish is great. The only thing I don't like is the road noise, but if you need a minvan and we do. This is it, the nav is the best I have ever seen. I have driven many high end cars and this one beats them all. I really like how the rear dvd is set up it works great. The car should have some better things like auto lights, auto rear view mirro but I think thats on the newer ones. Great Van

Strength:

Power, Cabin noise minimal, Very cold A/C. Competitive gas mileage. Seats seven real sized people. No bad seat in van. Sporty look competent handling. Comfortable seating, Good visibility. Rear controlled as well as driver controlled rear ventilation. Logical controls layout, easy to use cruise control.

Weakness:

Stick controls interfere with radio adjustments, Needs more personal storage. Map lights not angled properly towards front seating.

The best vehicle I've ever owned. If you have more than one child you need a mini-van. I started out with a SUV and found it was not real kid friendly. Being able to have another row of seats really separates the kids. Back seat fighting has dramatically decreased. The Odyssey is a sporty looking mini-van has great power and maneuverability. The fold down third row seat is perfect for instant cargo area. A/C is very cold and all seats have vents. Engine runs very quiet. You don't feel speed bumps in this vehicle as much as you do in a SUV. Competitive fuel economy, 20MPG around town 25-27 freeway. My Explorer was lucky to get 15 freeway. Very comfortable I have 4 captains chairs and a third row bench. Second row has movable and removable seats. I currently have them split down the middle for access. Easily the best cargo capacity. We camp a lot and the extra storage has been very nice. No SUV I know has as much interior room. If you fill the interior you also can tow up to 3000lbs. with transmission cooling installed. The van is equipped with air shocks that can be adjusted to level off the back end. The 3.5 liter V-tech engine provides all the power you need for all sorts of driving conditions. Excellent on hills, passing and cargo hauling.

Weakness:

Terrible warranty, won't back their product. Treats customers as if they don't care if you return.

We bought a 2005 Odyssey. The first year of this model. If we have had it in the service dept. once we have had there a dozen times. Now we realize, how bad their warranty really is. Because now that the warranty is up, there is still things going wrong and that are still wrong with it, and they act like they are doing you a favor if they fix anything. Now the CD player has quit working, a new one is about $1200.00. And the refurbished one is $400.00. Even when I am told that apparently this is a common problem with Honda, they want to charge that much money for a used system, and take your old one, I guess so they can sell it for 400.00 when they fix the CD player, its a vicious cycle.
I do like my van, but the amount of things that have been wrong with it and the run around they give you once the short warranty is up, makes it not worth it. I think everyone has a better warranty than HONDA. I will probably never buy another one.
They have no respect for their customers and don't seem to mind if they lose them or treat them as if they don't need them. I am just one person in a small town, but eventually it will hurt their reputation. I wouldn't recommend Honda to anyone, but if you just have to have one, be sure and "buy" the extended warranty, you are going to need it.

brakes, tranny

Have used as primary vehicle 6yrs. Now on 3rd tranny. 1st lasted to 93k mi, 2nd to 125k mi and when doing 1st service was told new tranny needed. $5000 new tranny should at least last as long as 1st. We spent $1000 on a new ignition switch last year and $2000 replacing the heater/ac console. On top of that brakes need replacing every year, a good year is under $1,000. Doors cost $1,000 twice also.We bought new at 69,000 mi now 129,000mi and thats 60,000 in 6yrs, 10,000mi/yr. This is an expensive vehicle to run and is worthless in a private sale

Strength:

good ergonomics

Weakness:

poor quality/safety, poor service

The transmission started to slip and the 'check engine' light went on. We took it to the dealer who told us the engine control module (the computer) and the transmission needed to be replaced. The cost was over $4,000! However, after contacting Honda they offered to pay 75% for “goodwill.” I thought that this did not make any sense, this is clearly a quality issue and should covered per the Honda quality recall from 2004. It appears that Honda has had an ongoing challenge with their transmissions failing from 1999 thru the present models. After considering my request that they cover 100% Honda did the following:
- they REVOKED their offer to pay 75%
- they indicated the cost to me now would be over $5,000 (something about non-warranty parts being more expensive, which makes no sense since they said it was not warrantied)
- The only consideration they did provide was $3,000 credit to a new Honda, which they would not put in writing.
- To top off this event, the dealer had the audacity to offer me $3k for a car with a bluebook of over $12,000!

18mpg highway, lots of costly repairs

A great car to drive, except when you remember how much you have paid for repairs that have never happened to any other car you've owned in 40 years. BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND PRAY, or sell the car when it reaches 60,000 miles.

Great minivan. Used it for 8 years, has 238,000 miles! Very dependable. Had one major problem with transmission, but Honda took care of it, so dint have to pay for it. Otherwise I had to do the normal service/oil changes only. This is my second honda vehicle. Just switched to a Toyota Avalon since my odyssey is getting old...

Strength:

Solid, 'heavy' feel. Comfortable seating, even that rear, third bench seat.

Weakness:

Discusting window defrosting system. All side windows totally frost over when driving with passengers. The front windshield also frosts from top towards bottom and the full defrost must be kept on 'high' to keep the lower half of the winshield from frosting. As well as making for dangerous visibility, passengers get cold feet.
Sound system is poor quality.
Six disc CD changer is a rip-off. We had to have four changed during the first warranty period and the last one has now broken and we won't be spending the $600.00 tag to replace the 'Honda' piece of junk.

Excellent, solid vehicle, great for confident highway speeds. Honda, however should have recalled the vehicle to improve the heating system as it can be a death trap in cold, winter conditions due to frosted windows. The six disc 'Honda' CD changer is a rip-off and easily breaks.

Weakness:

Radiator shield is too low and can sometimes cause problems.

I'm confused by some of the bad gas mileage reports. After 18 months I get 17-18 in the city and 26 Hwy (thats driving 70-75). The worst gas mileage I've gotten on the Hwy was 24.
