Nissan Quest (2009 and older) Minivans | Wagons

Nissan Quest (2009 and older) Minivans | Wagons

DESCRIPTION

The 2009 Nissan Quest continues as the most distinctive and original minivan on the market – as well as one of the roomiest minivans in its segment. Following a major redesign just two years ago, changes for 2009 are minimal. The 2009 Quest is offered in four well-equipped models – 3.5, 3.5S, 3.5SL and 3.5SE.

The Nissan Quest powertrain comes from its standard 235-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine, 5-speed automatic transmission and responsive suspension design. A Traction Control System (TCS) is also standard, while Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) is standard on the 3.5 SE model.

Road car handling is not an afterthought with the Quest. The Nissan Quest features a 4-wheel independent suspension with a rear multi-link design and front and rear stabilizer bars. Power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering is also standard, along with 4-wheel vented disc brakes with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA) and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD).

Standard Quest safety features include Nissan’s Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt and occupant classification sensors, front seat-mounted side impact supplemental air bags and roof-mounted curtain side impact supplemental air bags for outboard occupant head protection for all three rows, front seat Active Head Restraints and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

weird problems that service cannot diagnose and fix after repeated attempts. Gas mileage

Great looking vehicle, roomy, and innovative. We liked the overall appearance and roominess in the vehicle for our three kids (8yr, 5yr, and 1 yr old). Nice and low to ground helps with loading/offloading the kids and grocery, etc. BUT, we've had this thingin the shop 8 times in the last 3 months. We've had isseus with the transmission, leaks around front windshield (gasket problem), the right side passenger door sensor has had to replaced twice already. Most recently, we've noticede that the acceleration is sometime sluggish, and the engines almost dies. After a while, the problem seems to go away. The dealer suggested that we run premium gasoline (had been using mid grade) but that has not made the probelm go away. When this hapens, we;ve noticed a lot of exhaust smoke. On first trip in, service tech replaced throittle sensor...did not fix problem. This time, the repair tech says that the problem may be with the fuel injection system, but is not certain. After changing injectors, problem is STILL happening. The other day I noticed that there was a lot of exhaust residue on my rear panel (next to exhaiust pipe). Service department says nothing is wrong, but engine doesn;t run normally, and gas mileage SUCKS even with premium grade ($3.15 gal) fuel.

Strength:

Enjoyable to drive. Good power. Smooth ride. Power hatch is the very best

Weakness:

the tire problem with limited availability and the fail safe problem and the back bench seat release, if they could fix these problems, I think it would be great

It handles very well and has been enjoyable to drive and ride in. Previously owned a 1993 Quest and it was great. The only problem we are having is finding tires that will fit the 2004 Quest. As the result of a flattening tire (the alarm system worked great and I think it is a wonderful item to have in any auto)we went searching for new tires and have learned that there is only one tire that is made for the Quests made from 2004 to the present. They are made by Goodyear 225 65/16. In checking on line there is no other tire of that size anywhere. I checked for the 2004 we own and even for the new 2006 with the same result. You can put almost any other vehicle into tire.com and they will show you the various tires made for your vehicle. That sure makes me wonder what has been going on with Goodyear and Nissan to be so restrictive on size and what does that do to the customers who need a tire. We live in Los Angeles area and every place we contacted didn't have it in stock and would have to order it for deliver in 4 hours to 36 hr later. The local Nissan dealer (when called) said they had 4 but after they got the car decided that they only had 2 and they too had to order 2 more. The reviews of the Goodyear 225 65/16 that I have read do not have anything good to say about the tires wear (20,000-30,000 miles max) and definitely not pleased about it being the only supplier of a tire that fits the Quest. We have had noises with both the side automatic door and the rear hatch however we have found that if you open and close it again it usually makes the rattle sound disappear. We have also had trouble twice with what we think might be the transmission when the van is started. It will reverse fine but when put into Drive the engine races and the speed is very slow. One of the other reviewers stated that they had been informed by a dealer that it was a "fail-safe" mechanizm that allows the car to go only about 10 miles an hour. We have found from experience that if you stop the car turn it off and restart it that problem disappears. I would hope that they redesign the release mechanism for the back bench. For a short person and/or older person without much strength it is impossible to lower it into the rear compartment to make it flat in back. The idea of having the rear seat (back) fold flat onto the seat part and then have to grab a strap attached near the top of the seat(now furthest from where you are standing at the back door hatch) and push a button infront of the strap and pull the strap at the same time is almost if not totally impossible. For such a great van we sure wish it didn't have the tire and the fail safe problem

Transmission

The first transmission was replaced at 10,000 miles. The car would not shift gears. The replacement transmission has had the seal replaced twice. The car would not change gears again at 20,000 miles this time they replaced the computer. All together the car has been in the shop for 42 days. We have initated lemon law proceedings. Customer no service has said that they will continue to honor the warrenty. We have been extremely patient with them. When they said that they would not take the car back I finally got angry. THEY WILL TAKE THE CAR BACK.

Ride, handling and options are great. Style is superb and this van is a joy to drive. Quiet running, smooth transmission, excellent sound system, love the possible seat arrangements and center console - even if the critics pan it. This van has so many positive things about it compared to the other vans on the market.

Weakness:

RELIABILITY does NOT exist. Have never had a new vehcile back to the service department so many times for so many things. DOORS are a real problem both from a noise and from a safety point. Have had a family member injure her arm when the side door closed on her and jamed her arm in the door. Older Quests didn't appear to have nearly as many problems as the 04 model.

Have had more problems with this vehicle in 22 months than I have had with others over several years. Both power side doors operate when they want to, rattle so bad at times, cobversation is impossible. Sky-light leaks- dealer has had it resealed 3 times - still leaks. Seal in transmission had to be replaced - took 9 days. Since I have had possession of this vehicle, I have had a loaner - no cost to me- at least 40 days. Hate to go for a service as 8 times out of 10, they wil find another problem. Last one was a missing weld which caused a rattle in rear of van. I did a careful comparrision with Honda and Toyota before selecting Quest - this van had more value and options per $, than the other 2 as well as better ride and handling but all I want now is to get a service done with no extras. Dealer has been great but I think the Service Manager hates to se me come in as she knows we will probably have to come back for a repair.

great style, space specially for road trips. other than that the car SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!! its been about 18 month full of problems, from accelerating by it self to frozen a/c on the hot summer in FL and also to many terrible noise. Ihave been more than 10 times to the service dept, their service has been good, they keep trying . for the accelerating problem the install some regulator chip on computer or tansmision. for the a/c it was missing a insulation piece but my noise problem this is were it gets better, the noise comes from the sliding doors and the rear part of the van. service dept said thenoise on slinding doors is normal!! for the rear noise we tight the back bench, my seat was losse then replace some parts on the back bench then tight the seat again. I even went to another niss service dept more than 136 miles south and they cant fix my problem, 18 month full of problems . summer05 I persue legal action . Everything

I hate this van! I have had nothing but trouble with it. Most importantly, twice in the past 10 months, the vehcile has been unable to engage into drive properly. I'm told by the dealer that the computer senses when it thinks the transmission is low in fluid and puts the transmission in "fail safe" mode if fluid is too low. My transmission is not low in fluid, but goes into fail safe mode anyway. When this happens, the vehicle will only drive at about 10 miles per hour, but will back up normally. The dealer's solution is to fill the transmission "extra full" to prevent this from happening - not an appropriate solution. Also, the radio doesn't always work. Sometimes the LCD panel will light up, tell me what radio station is selected the volume, etc., but no sound comes out the speakers. If I shut it off and restart, I usually then have radio, but sometimes have to restart the vehicle three or four times. After repeated complaints, the dealer now says they will replace the radio. The gas guage doesn't always acknowledge when I've gotten fuel. Sometimes it takes up to three days for the gas guage to move from empty to full after I've filled the tank. The tripometer and odometer are different from each other - often up to 5% different. I drive this van equally in the city and on the highway, but have never gotten more than 16 miles per gallon. If I drive it exclusively in the city, I get 12 miles per gallon (of course, with the odometer/tripometer problem, I don't think I have any real idea what the gas mileage truly is). I found a bolt lying on the carpet that probably goes in my manual sliding door. This van is the 5th new Nissan I've purchased since 1994 - that's about one every two years. I don't think I will never buy another Nissan after this experience.

Strength:

Nissan products are generally good.

Weakness:

Nissan as a whole does not honor warranties or do anything in "good faith" to take care of something that seemed to be a manufacturer defect. I too, as "Nat" has said "will never buy another Nissan" because of that.

Had the same problem with the fuel pump as others have said, but the main problem was the paint. This car was bought new but I noticed in the second year that the top of the van was peeling and splitting. I tried everything I know to get Nissan to step up and have it repaired and they gave me the run around so I just finially ended up paying over $2,000 to have the thing painted myself. Because of this I have turned to a different family of cars although I loved Nissans.

Have had more troubles than I should for a new car. Twice my car has had to be towed to the dealership from work b/c it wouldn't start...turn out there is a volutary recall on the feul pump. The side passengar electronic door would not close another time....again another voluntary recall. On the second tow they did 8 changes due to recalls. Service has been ok.. no replacement car, and they charged me for tire rotation!!! Will not buy a Nissan again!!

We purchased the Quest 1 year ago and is going strong. No problems. And with a company that backs its product. In September recalled for safety and noise issues which were resolved quickly and at no cost. Plus Nissan changed our warranty to 5 years. After one year what a great vehicle. Easy to clean (we purchased the all season mats for the winter - they are great) the seating arrangement can be changed so conveniently. We love all the room and ease of getting in and out the huge power sliding doors. The auto back hatch is great for getting stuff in and out. The amenities we paid for vs the competitions is amazing. Heated seats and mirrors, power seats and foot pedals, rear sonar, power sliding doors and hatch. We love our Nissan Quest.
